Never Again

Anon, stayed: August 2020

Lovely place, OK food, OK rooms, but the driver's attitude to my disabled father, even after I (very embarrassingly) had to explain the ins and outs of my father's dementia, in front of my father, to the aggressive, unpleasant driver, is an experience which reduced me to tears and which I will never forget. I should add that the Transport Manager apologised profusely, but sadly the damage was already done.

If anyone from Burgh Island happens to read this, my mother is still awaiting an answer to her email, sent several days ago, about a pair of missing spectacles. A reply would be appreciated.

Amazing anniversary experience

Helen, Devon, stayed: August 2020

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous two night stay at the Burgh Island Hotel at the beginning of August to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and we would go back in a shot! It was superb. We arrived in heavy rain but were welcomed with complimentary glasses of champagne in the decadent Palm Court cocktail lounge. The Art Deco decor is lovely with great attention to detail throughout. We also opted to lunch on the most delicious crab sandwiches I have ever tasted. Our double room had fantastic views over the causeway and we became strangely obsessed with watching the tides and sea tractor coming and going.
Cocktails and delicious food were part of the Ballroom restaurant experience in the evening and it was enjoyable (and a rare treat) to get really dressed up. Some of the other guests had fully embraced the 1920s with their outfits and looked fantastic!
There was a deep sea mist in the morning and we couldn t actually see the mainland - the Christie novel And then there were none , came to mind! However, this cleared over the day and when we returned from a circular coast walk along to the Erme estuary, the island and hotel looked absolutely stunning with blue skies and sparkling water. A champagne cream tea on the veranda and a swim in the mermaid pool finished the day perfectly!
The food and service in the Nettlefold restaurant was as good as in the Ballroom on the first night and we enjoyed a later drink on our bedroom balcony overlooking the water. Bliss.
We enjoyed everything about the hotel and on reflection, I was really pleased I had changed the booking from a one night to two night stay which meant that we could relax and enjoy all the facilities on offer.
Staying at the Burgh Island Hotel was a fabulous experience and my husband and I would definitely return! Highly recommended. Loved it!
