The Swan at Lavenham Hotel & Spa

Characterful old hotel with half timber features.

Excellent staff , most helpful,disorganised breakfast service,had to wait too long for service and wrong choices sometimes served.Restaurant beautiful ,food quite good and ample .Room needed a little attention to detail eg light carpet stains and could have been more pristine for price bracket.Staff were very attentive full marks on reception as were the waiting staff generally pity about breakfast inefficiency.

Could have been better

1 room out of the three I booked was inferior, no dressing gown, small window etc. this lady was a solo traveller therefore had to pay the double room cost for a couple even though only eating for one, and was disappointed.
The staff were polite but forgot things they were asked for on four occasions. The cream tea was extremely disappointing with almost inedibly hard scones. Our initial invoice was incorrect by 140, this was soon rectified.

Great location; great hotel and food.

Lavenham is a very picturesque village (small town?) in rural Suffolk. The Swan is at the heart of it and as a very historic building fits in beautifully with its location. The reception staff were most welcoming as were all of the staff whatever their function. Our room was basic but very comfortable and functional. We were booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis (with an afternoon tea on one day), and the meals were all beautifully prepared and presented. The chef is to be congratulated for his attention to detail. The duck and venison were particularly well prepared and presented.

Overall, a most enjoyable stay and a perfect birthday present for my wife.
