A wonderful stay in one of England's oldest towns
We found The Swan at Lavenham through Offpeakluxury.com and booked our break through them, staying in the Gainsborough Suite for three days between Christmas and New Year, and it was exactly what we needed to unwind from the festive craziness.
Our room was fabulous, with a massive super king bed for my husband and I, and our 12 year old son had a sofabed in the lounge area along with our two dogs.
The hotel is exactly as you would imagine of a building that dates back to the 1400s. All higgledy piggledy steps and beams and places you can bang your head if you're not paying attention (every potential head-banging area is clearly marked).
The Swan takes 'timber framed' to a whole new level. It's absolutely charming and has so much character and history that you feel like you've stepped into a period drama.
The Gallery restaurant was constructed in the 60s but looks like something out of Tudor times. It's really amazing, and the food served here is equally as good. As we were staying for 3 nights we kind of knew our way around the menu by the end, but that didn't take away from the quality of the dishes they served us each evening, and breakfast.
The Weaver's House Spa is really luxurious, although we were only able to have one of the treatments we booked as one of the therapists had called in sick. My husband said it was very pleasant though. We also used the steam room and sauna, which were wonderful, and the chill out area is great for just adding an extra amount of de-stressing to your stay.
The staff are wonderful too; completely helpful and attentive and very chatty.
My only comment would be, get to breakfast and dinner early during their busy periods as this was the only time we experienced a lengthy delay in service.
Take the time to discover Lavenham and all the surrounding areas. There's so much to see and do (see how many Listed Buildings you can count - including the incredible Guildhall in the Market Square which has to be one of England's most beautiful buildings).
We drove to a place called Clare which was lovely too, and had a gorgeous lunch one day in Long Melford at another Swan pub over that way.
All in all a wonderful stay in one of England's oldest, most well-preserved Tudor towns. Thank you offpeakluxury.com for introducing us to this fabulous place.

Good experience
Great stay at a great hotel
Booked The Swan for my husband's 70th birthday through Off Peak Luxury and was not disappointed, we had a very warm welcome by the friendly staff who could not do enough for us. A bottle of champagne in the room awaited us. The evening meal was as good as any top restaurant in London as the breakfast the next morning. Service was excellent throughout. I could not believe what a good deal this was and wil definitely be looking for further deals through this company.
