Delayed Silver Wedding Anniversary Break

Booked to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary, the hotel was exactly what we were looking for. My Wife enjoyed the Spa whilst I 'worked' and we both enjoyed the evening meal with 7 course taster menu and flight of wines.

Having overlooked the flower request I had asked for, they managed to rustle up a lovely bouquet in the two hours we went out for lunch.

Front of house was a little stretched (just getting back to normal from lockdown no doubt) and it was disappointing not to be able to have lunch in the hotel, but staff very attentive during the evening meal service.

Overall a very enjoyable stay, and would certainly return when the occasion arises.

Average stay

The room was clean and tidy, although we were in the rooms at the top of the hotel and staircase was extraordinarily steep to gain access. The shower in the bathroom was GREAT. The waterflow from the taps on the bath are super slow so it takes an age to run a bath. The plug on the sink didn t allow the water to run away, so we were either left with standing water or had to prise the plug out of the automatic mechanism in order for the water to drain.

My partner used the mini gym which comprised of a bike, a bench and a few weights. When it came to check out time, we were astonished to have been charged 25 for the use of this. As with other spa hotels we wrongly assumed that the use of gym equipment would be covered by the room rate. If we had known that would be charged for the use of this as if he had also used the spa facilities (steam room, sauna and hot tub), he either wouldn t have used the mini gym or made more use of the facilities to feel that 25 was more value for money. Both of us had a massage treatment which was wonderful, but having entered the spa building, I can say that the 25 definitely is not value for money for an hours use of the limited facilities.

Upon checkout, I reviewed our bill and discovered we had been overcharged by over 100. There was a spa treatment for 80 that we did not have, and the hotel also failed to apply the discount of 15% on the massages that we had booked which was part of the package price paid. There was very little in the way of an apology for hiking our bill up by 33%.

My overall opinion is that hotel is overpriced for what I experienced.
