A very relaxing break
Staff are very helpful and welcoming, and very efficient. The hotel has a good ambiance, and meals are delicious and service is generally very good.
The hotel is very quiet at night, and it s grounds are very attractive and well tended.
A pleasant, relaxing stay
We very much enjoyed our stay. We were made to feel very
welcome and enjoyed the use of the spa facilities. Our room was comfortable and well furnished. All the public areas were of a high standard and the bar and restaurant service were both excellent. The whole ambience of the hotel was very relaxing and we would certainly stay at Wotton House again.
Disappointing Hotel
Maybe we expected too much, but this was not a luxury place for a romantic weekend in the middle of winter. Unless of course, you have been upgraded to a suite in the old central part of the house. It is a conference hotel. The old building has extensions on both ends, so there is a long long corridor from one end to the restaurant. No doors closed along it and the draught went from one end to the other. There was an occasional warm spot, but not that cosy to sit in. We expected a cosy lounge with a blazing log fire. The morning room has spotlights in the ceiling but not much ambience. Standard and table lamps would help, maybe some fresh flowers. The Sunday we arrived, the gas coal fire was not on, nor working (run out of gas) until the next day. Only two of the radiators were working. We should have realised that a pile of throws was a hint of the temperature. We needed them, as did other guests. I know it is an old building, bt there has to be some way of warming your guests. If the fire is not lit, no-one is going to sit in that room. Restaurant chairs have certainly seen better days and are well overdue for replacement. Food was not fine dining but nice enough. Items at breakfast ran out, and at 5 to 10 the chef was not cooking anything else! Staff were very helpful and within limitations could not do enough for us. Swimming pool is lovely, and warm. Gardens are beautiful. Double bedroom was rather grey and obviously designed for one person with small bathroom, and only one armchair. Lighting not good. We had to sit somewhere to read.
