Sunday one night stay
Treated my husband to a night away in March. The hotel is impressive as you drive in and grounds are nice. Our room was nice and the pool and spa facilities were great and quiet too. However the restaurant is poor. We ended up with a burger and fish and chips - hardly a treat. The pear pavlova was tiny - it was quarter of a pear. Having said that it was a delicious pud. Breakfast was disappointing. My croissant was stale and the breads are just regular sliced bread. Staff didn't seem to be proactively refilling dishes unless customers asked. Self service hot drinks were not nice. There wasn't any ambience, need music in the bar and newspapers. Lots of empty reception rooms and no reason to linger there really. We won't be back unfortunately.
Disappointing Stay
Bitterly disappointed by the standard of Wotton House Hotel. The website implies a sumptuous stay but this is far from reality. The hotel is understaffed; the decor is shabby and needs addressing. The gym area has machines that are badly corroded and the free weights are rusted and damaged. The pool; sauna and steam room are in need of refurb. The catering leaves a lot to be desired with tables left unclean and food over priced for the quality served. We paid a lot for our two night stay and left feeling underwhelmed and very much duped by the website. Don't fall for the marketing!
Avoid not worth it at all
So from the slow check-in to the freezing cold rather small junior suite, to the messy (possibly used towels) was a great first impressions.
The restaurant was Ok nothing special at all, had better food at local pubs.
Then the nights sleep which was broken by apparently a worker banging on the door at 4.50am to check our bathroom wasn't on fire??! Then loud staff arriving shortly after that.
Breakfast wasn't too bad with a large choice although much of it wasn't labelled or correctly labelled and much of it was undercooked.
The check out staff weren't bothered about our experience and just wanted us out of their. Although a week later finally did refund some of the stay (probably in response to negative reviews online)
