Great Staff
When we arrived we were delighted to see they had already decorated for Christmas and it looked wonderful.(Even had a little snow The first morning). The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was nice and spacious however, it was very warm so the fan in the room was a good addition. The bathroom also nice and spacious however, the shower could do with been moved a little, as it would be awkward if you were tall. We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night which was brilliant. Staff were friendly and helpful and the food lovely. Again it was nicely decorated for Christmas. We had a few drinks in the bar both evenings and again the staff were great, even remembering our drinks on the second evening. The grounds were lovely, we only had a short walk around as the weather wasn't great, but imagine it would be even better in the warmer months. Overall a great stay and will definitely visit again.
Disappointed
I booked a stay at this hotel for my partner's birthday and we were both disappointed. There was a wedding on the same weekend, and it felt like all the focus was on that, with the usual guest experience being a let down. Our bedroom felt more like a corporate hotel rather than the luxury country hotel we were expecting. The leisure facilities weren't as expansive as the photos suggested, with 5 people allowed in the jacuzzi and the steam and sauna always had people almost queuing to get in. The swimming pool was a lot smaller than expected, with children's swimming lessons happening all day Saturday and Sunday, so with their screaming and shouting it wasn't very relaxing. There were no chairs or loungers pool side either, so you had to sit on the side of the pool.
The bar service wasn't great, as only two people on serving both the bar and restaurant, and with the wedding party there were long queues to be served.
In the restaurant, the dinner service felt rushed. No care was given to explain the menu, wine list etc with us having to track down the waiter at times for drinks etc. Breakfast was a buffet which was empty by the time we went down at 10.15am. Breakfast was due to finish at 10.30, so I would have expected low availability, but the hot buffet was cold, they ran out of milk, juice and bread for toast.
I have high expectations given the cost and setting. While the grounds were beautiful, the hotel itself is stunning but maybe check to see if there is a wedding happening when you are planning to go. I've spoken to several other people who I know went before and they all said the same. If there is a wedding on, expect that to take priority! Not the romantic and relaxing break I'd been looking for at all!
Great Memory for my daughters 30th
Wotton House Hotel, well what can I say, it wasn t the gorgeous building, the relaxing spa, the amazing food, the spacious rooms, the breathtaking views, the incredible value for money, or even the Christmas decorations to die for. What really made this place shine was the people. Every single member of the team worked together to make sure our stay was nothing short of perfect.
I booked a surprise 30th birthday evening with dinner and over night stay for my daughter Emma, and from the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond. There was prosecco and truffles waiting in the room, a celebratory glass of prosecco with dinner, and even a personalised birthday plate that made Emma feel so special. Every interaction was warm, genuine, and full of care from check-in to dining, to the bar service, and even the tireless staff armed with hoovers making sure everything stayed spotless.
I ve stayed in many hotels over the years, but never have I come across such a genuinely happy and helpful team. Wotton House isn t just a hotel it s an experience powered by people who clearly love what they do. Thank you all for making Emma s 30th (and our stay) truly unforgettable.
