Pet Inspectors: Rufus and Lulu are pampered at Widbrook Grange

The Pet Inspectors had another super-dog friendly weekend away and Rufus has reported back on his trip to the gorgeous Widbrook Grange.

Where we stayed

We headed off down the M4 to sample PetsPyjamas Woof-brook Exclusive package at Widbrook Grange, an 18th-century Georgian farmhouse set in 11 acres of grounds near beautiful Bradford on Avon. We had heard that the hotel was ridiculously dog-friendly and so we were super excited about our visit!

This doggie package sounded amazing and included two nights stay, doggie afternoon tea, a sausage at breakfast for us and breakfast, dinner and drinks for the humans. We got a wooftastic greeting at reception, where we immediately sniffed out their wonderful display of treats, dog toys, and Pawsecco temptingly displayed.  We were also promised a toy each if we were good!

What we wore and what we packed

We decided to wear our Reg and Bob striped fabric matching collars and leads as they’re super smart and washable – in fact perfect for muddy walks in the country and ruff and tumble and sprints off the lead in the gardens. We also took with us our very smart personalised PetsPyjamas blankets, collapsible bowls which are pawfect for dog walking, as well as our Petweekend personalised beds for the back of the car.

Our room

Was in the converted stable block overlooking the beautiful courtyard.  The room was large with quirky décor and we were delighted to see there were two pale blue paw print beds, bowls, hotel treat box with a ball, and food for us as well as our own PetsPyjamas pet treat goodie bags. Plus, there was a super comfy extra large bed for the humans.

What we ate

The humans had purposefully skipped lunch ready for afternoon tea and we were especially hungry after a quick run around the grounds off the lead.  Lulu is a little more athletic than me so had a wonderful game of chasing after and retrieving the ball whilst I looked on.

We were shown into the conservatory by the Manager Hakan, who was very charming and we were super excited about our doggie afternoon tea.  Our tea was truly bow-wow and was served on a stand and included puppiccino, tennis balls, bone-shaped treats, and a gourmet meal.  It was all delicious.

Our humans, Denise and her daughter Camilla, had a wonderful cream tea with warm scones, smoked salmon and egg finger sandwiches and cakes. Afterwards, we went out again for a run around the grounds to work off those extra doggie calories!

We were so full that we skipped dinner and had a lie down in our beds whilst our humans enjoyed a gin tasting session in the pet-friendly gin bar, before a delicious dinner cooked by world champion head chef Sandor Szucs.

The next morning we were delighted to be offered a sausage whilst the humans tucked into a full English.

What we did

The next morning the humans had a dip in the pool, which is just next to our room. We then crossed the road and took a lovely walk over the bridge and on a pathway at the side of the Kennet and Avon canal, which leads all the way to Bradford on Avon; a delightful village full of honey-coloured houses and lots of pet-friendly cafes. If we had had more time we would have visited nearby Bath, but we can save that for our next trip.

We all agreed that we absolutely loved the hotel and Lulu and I were made to feel very special.  We came away with our new toys that we had been promised and are looking forward to our next pampering trip to Widbrook!
