The Pet Inspectors at The Westleton Crown

Rufus and Heidi get the royal treatment in the hotel where Will and Kate stayed…

Pet Inspectors Rufus and Heidi have been on their travels again. This time we took the intrepid pair on a regal jaunt to the Suffolk coast – with plenty of chance for long woodland walks and seaside fun. We were going to stay at The Westleton Crown in the very room where William and Kate had recently spent a night for a wedding they were attending.

At the last-minute Denise’s daughter asked if we could also take her rescue dog Lulu along – so with some trepidation our Pet Concierge team rang up The Westleton to ask if we could bring along THREE dogs and they immediately agreed, and said they absolutely ADORED dogs! We were thrilled.

Friday

Our first stop was Aldeburgh where we had come along to support our friend Sarah Muir Poland who was exhibiting her paintings at a CURE art exhibition in Aldeburgh along with Maggie Hamling and other artists. There were a few celebrities there including Clive Anderson and his wife Jane who had brought along their dog Albert.

Rufus, Heidi and Lulu waited for us patiently in the car but were rewarded with a visit to a dog-friendly pub Ye Olde Cross Keys.

We then continued to The Westleton Crown, a charming 12th century inn nestled between Southwold and Aldeburgh, known for being a super dog-friendly hotel along with its sister hotel The Ship in Dunwich.

Although we were arriving really late the staff gave Rufus and Heidi a wonderful welcome and a few biscuits too! We were then whisked up to The Swan Suite – the same room where William and Kate had stayed where a lovely welcome note was waiting for the dogs. It was a lovely spacious room with a four-poster bed big enough for us and the three dogs!

Saturday

Saturday morning began with a fabulous breakfast which Rory described as the best breakfast ever! Each of the three dogs were offered their own individual sausage with a tupperware box supplied for any leftovers for later in the day! Magic!

Next, we decided to try the suggested inn to inn walk from The Westleton to their sister hotel The Ship on the Dunwich coast. The dogs were so keen and it was such a beautiful day we decided on the slightly longer 6.5-mile option.  This was the most gorgeous walk through Westleton Common, Dunwich Woods and the Suffolk coastal path. We hardly met a soul and the dogs loved the chance to roam free across all  the different terrains.

After our two-hour walk, we rewarded ourselves with the most delicious lunch at sister hotel The Ship in the centre of Dunwich. We sat outside in the brilliant sunshine and enjoyed a lager and fish and chips.

Later that evening we met up with our friends Jane and Peter in Southwold for supper at the ultra pet-friendly Sail Loft restaurant close to beach where the dogs were given a warm welcome and had so much fun they even joined another table! We had a fabulous meal with more local fish and delicious Suffolk steaks.

Sunday

Sunday started with yet another delicious cooked English breakfast and sausages for the dogs and a chat with restaurant manager Andrea who was super charming.

Then we had a quick spin around the village which is picture-perfect and its lovely village green before setting off back to London. We had such a great weekend and such a welcome at the hotel we definitely hope to return soon.

Pet Inspectors verdict: “We absolutely loved it. We felt very regal and favoured staying in the same room as Will and Kate. All the staff gave us a wonderful welcome and we were thrilled to be given a welcoming note on arrival and our own individual sausage at breakfast! Best of all were the wonderful inn to inn walks and beach walks at Dunwich. We are planning another visit in October.”
