Relaxing stay
From entering to leaving the Netherwood everything was so laidback. We were totally relaxed and at ease. We have been before and will certainly be back.
Beautiful character filled hotel
We stopped here to visit various National Trust places in the Lake District, and we used a voucher we received for our wedding day, so it was like a little additional honeymoon holiday! The hotel is absolutely stunning - it's just beautiful, and so full of character. I would have loved to explore more around it!
Positives: On arrival we had a voucher for a cream tea, which we enjoyed outside in the sunshine watching the finches flying around, and it was lovely! Our room had a bottle of Prosecco which we enjoyed before heading down for dinner. 70 is a generous amount to spend on dinner - though somehow we overspent, which we're not sure how it happened as we added up the total before we ordered (I can only think the menu prices didn't match what was processed on the bill). Dinner was delicious, and they kindly allowed me to order off the bar menu as I'm a very fussy eater! All staff we encountered during our stay were lovely, and very attentive. Breakfast was equally as nice, plenty of hot and cold options, and a pleasant surprise to find vegan sausages without having to request them. Also a hotel toaster that actually toasts the bread properly! Our room was lovely (room 2), plenty of space and with only 4 rooms in our area it was nice and quiet. The hotel is within easy walking distance of Grange over Sands. There is a lovely nature reserve which is accessed behind the cottages to the the rear of the hotel if that's your thing!
Negatives: The view from the room was supposed to be either woodland or landscape - but our view was of a hill a couple of feet away, so although we weren't overlooked, there was nothing to look at. After the first night I noticed a funny smell in the room, which I traced to the carpet. I don't think the main hotel rooms allowed dogs, but it did smell very much like dogs to me, or like the carpet had been cleaned and not dried properly. The first morning when housekeeping came in, they took our towels and replaced them with fresh, even though we didn't place them where the sign requested (in the shower) if we wanted a change. This made us feel guilty, so next morning we put out the do not disturb sign. This resulted in a voucher for 5 off at the bar which was great, but we had to go and request extra milk and coffee for the room, and got no more biscuits or water :(.
The positives far outweigh the minor negatives, and we had a lovely stay!
Really enjoyed our stay
After a bit of a shaky start when we arrived for our cream tea, this place really grew on us. A lot of this type of hotel can be really tired but the public areas of this hotel while traditional are in pretty good order. The rooms are ok but how much time do you spend in a room? It s not a key consideration of ours. The star of the show is the restaurant. Really excellent food and service. I had the lamb rump and it was exceptional. Spent an hour and half in spa. This is really excellent with two big steam rooms, large sauna and two hot tubs and cold plunge pool. Treatments available too. The hotel has beautiful gardens and if sunny it s a great place for a few beers in the sun. Short walk to town if you fancy a look around Grange over Sands and it has a really nice prom by the sea.
