Great location, shame about the room!
We stayed 3 nights, the hotel is in a good location for sightseeing, but it s geared more for golfers and spa stayers. Our room was very poor, we arrived early and the room was still being cleaned? So we went to the bar for a drink. When we got the room key and went in, well the disappointment hit us like a shovel around the head! The bed cover looked like it had people walking on it, the bathroom smelt like dirty water. There was only a one does all shampoo in the shower, and one by the sink. You have to pump the top to get a dribble out. (No good when having a shower) the bathroom mirror had dirty hand prints on it, and the towels were like sandpaper. In the bedroom it was that very hot weekend, 16th to 18th July. The window only opens 2 inches, and there is no fan! It was stifling! I read the room booklet, it said for room service ( food and drinks) call the reception, this was only manned from 10.30am to 7.30pm most days. I saw the phone receiver was off the hook, I picked it up, no ring tone, then noticed the phone was unplugged from the socket. When I reconnected it, the phone just howled at me! ( no room service then!!! The room was very tired, when we mentioned it to a member of staff we were told it was only refurbed 5 years ago! The reception desk was hidden in a corner, and the main corridor was shabby.
That s the negatives out the way. Each morning we were welcomed into the restaurant, also the evenings too, the staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. We even had a laugh with most of them. The food was to die for, good portions, and very well prepared and cooked. I have no complaints at all about how we were looked after at all. There does need to be a lounge area for guests, there was a bar area, but it was closed and very dark and dingy.
We have had many times away with Country hotels, and more booked this year, we were very disappointed with the room we were given, it s nothing like what we have been used too with country hotels. We have stayed in travel lodges and premier Inn s in the past and had much better rooms especially for the price we paid. We didn t want to complain while there, as we didn t want to spoil a lovely long weekend away. Would I come back, for the food and service yes, for the room definitely not.

the food was good.it needs to be mentioned that is primarily a golf hotel and the bar area and restaurant can become noisy with big golf groups .Most definitely NOT a romantic place Also there is nowhere in the grounds for non golfers to walk. It is called the Dartmouth Hotel but is at least 4 miles away from Dartmouth and not walkable as no footpath along road. The hotel could offer a mini bus service into the town.Overall slightly diissappointed Give a rating of 7 out of 10.
