Disappointed to say the least

Katie, West Sussex, stayed: October 2020

We booked a two night package to include dinner on one evening, afternoon tea and a 3 hour hydrotherapy session. Due to Covid we had to reschedule our visit and I checked several times before making my booking that the spa facilities would be back open, given this was one of the key reasons for coming here. There was limited space anf only the main spa pool open, no sauna, no steam rooms nothing. If I hadn t specifically asked I could understand but I was informed on rebooking everything was back open.
The staff were too busy to give you the attention needed at check in pr any other time for that matter. I was told what time my breakfast /dinner reservations were, which were made without asking me and no opportunity to accomodate as they were fully booked and which room and that was it. No welcome, no explanation of the facilities, local area, where the restaurant was, where the spa was or anything. You couldnt get theough to anyone on reception if you called from the room. We had to walk down and wait for someone to arrive in reception. Ive never felt so totally underwhelmed in a hotel, let alone one charging these prices.
We got to the room and the carpet hadn't been hoovered, there was blood all over the patio doors and the bin in the bathroom and grit in the sink where i assume they emptied the mop bucket after mopping the floor - so much for deep cleaning for covid! The paint was peeling off one of the units where it had obviously suffered water damage from the tea and coffee making facilties and there were huge coffee stains on the floor beneath, where they had just pulled a rug over it. All this for a room costing 200 a night give or take with the extras thrown in
We decided to give it the benefit of the doubt and not let it spoil the weekend but the staff breakfast wasn t much better, we were initially ignored and then told we could only have cappuccino after 10:30 and we would have to pay for it. I asked for some sauce and was ignored again. This is not something i expect for this caliber of hotel.
The food was excellent and couldn't be faulted but not cheap either.
When we came to check out, they didnt disappoint and proceeded to try overcharging. They charged us for the meal which was supposedly included and the again for our dogs, which we had already paid for. There was unsurprisingly another family in reception very annoying and making a complaint. I can understand under the current circumstances that operations are difficult but a smile here and there and a little hospitality go a long way. Seemed to me they had too many guests and not enough qualified staff.
All in all Falmouth is a lovely place to visit but stay somewhere else.

Second Stay

Charlotte, Cornwall, stayed: October 2020

We ve stayed at St Michael s once before, back in April 2019. Obviously due to the on going situation a lot has changed at the hotel however they ve managed to keep everything as similar as possible. Check in was done online the day before and keys were collected upon arrival, making the process very quick.
As part of our deal we had a beachfront room with balcony or sun terrace, this turned out not to be a beachfront room as there is building work going on in front of the hotel. The view was then just of the building site. However, now checking the website the names of the room have now been changed post our visit. The rooms are nice, modern and spacious however could do with a spruce up.
We visited the restaurant the first evening and both very much enjoyed our meals however it s a limited menu with no choice of specials.
The first morning we had room service breakfast before heading to the spa, the sandwiches were lovely, the bread was delicious, not everything we ordered arrived but we were both still full and satisfied with what we got. The second morning we went to the restaurant for breakfast, they don t do speciality coffees in the morning unfortunately but it s understandable as it would take them too long, breakfast was lovely.
The spa was lovely as usual however steam rooms and sauna were shut but was told they were due to reopen at the end of the month.
On the Saturday we went for afternoon tea which was lovely!
Overall we had a great stay and really enjoyed our relaxing weekend which is what we went for.
Probably wouldn t stay again due to the new building being put in the way of the view, kind of spoils the beach experience we had the previous year. There is similar hotels in the area which now have better views and are cheaper. It s a shame because the hotel is lovely.

Two night October stay

DF, Surrey, stayed: October 2020

The room was pleasant. The staff were friendly. The only downside was the ongoing building work which meant that, being non-sea facing in the Beach House, our terrace was only a few yards from a massive crane and building site. So the room was pleasant enough to stay in, but no decent views and not really possible to use the terrace.
However, we enjoyed our breakfasts and dinner in the restaurant and the location is very close to the beach and very convenient for coastal walks which we thoroughly enjoyed.
The spa was relaxing and well equipped.
