5 Reasons to Holiday in the UK with your dog

There’s never been a better time to holiday in the UK with many of us Brits choosing to vacay closer to home instead of abroad. Here are just some of the reasons why you and your pet should enjoy some homegrown hideaways for your next dog-friendly break

1. Location, location, location

Although our weather may be unpredictable at times, the UK is blessed with both beautiful countryside and fabulous beaches! And both are must-visit spots for canines on their travels.

The UK has around 7,760 miles of coastline all of which is very accessible – and just under 500 UK beaches are dog-friendly all year round!

Here are a couple of our favourite beaches…

Camber Sands in East Sussex – voted one of the top six beaches in the UK, Camber Sands has miles and miles of sandy beach and dunes for four-legged friends to run along. And best of all, super dog-friendly hotel The Gallivant sits directly opposite the beach so your pup can literally roll out of bed and have some fun by the sea.

Alnmouth Beach in Northumberland – wide, sandy and dog-friendly all year round, Alnmouth Beach rarely gets overcrowded with other holidaymakers and is great for wildlife enthusiasts. Dog-friendly boutique B&B St Valery is only a short stroll away and will provide furry guests with a towel for their sandy paws.

As well as miles of coastline, the UK also boasts 15 spectacular National Parks and miles upon miles of countryside to explore with your four-legged friend!

Britain has an incredibly diverse landscape and one that is especially pawfect for walking holidays. So whether you enjoy a casual stroll or a seasoned hiker, you won’t be short on choice of trails to take with your pet.

Here are a couple of our favourite areas to walk…

Lake District –  with gorgeous scenery, mountains, lakes and luscious countryside it makes for a dramatic vista. Set in a landscape rich with walking trails, it is the ideal destination for holidaying with your four-legged friend. One of our top places to stay is super dog-friendly Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa, a charming Cumbrian hotel in truly idyllic setting, nestled in the heart of the Borrowdale Valley. Overlooking Lake Derwentwater, it’s surrounded by beautiful landscapes. Visit Cat Bells for a three-hour walk or take the four-mile walk from the waterfall.

The Cotswold Way, Cotswolds – running for over 100 miles from Bath to Chipping Campden, The Cotswold Way offers countless trails with fabulous views and interesting haunts for furry friends and their owners to discover. The Lion Inn is one of our favourite dog-friendly places in the area to stay and will provide your pet with a special doggie-formulated beer – ideal after a long walk!

2. Ease of travelling with your pet

One of the best things about holidaying in the UK, you don’t need a passport! All you need to do is pack your pet’s travel essentials, jump in the car and – provided you’re all set – drive.
