Room poor and no atmosphere
Having travelled from Scotland to stay here on first look of the building it was beautiful and we liked the gothic Elizabethan style in the reception and bar. However our room was basic to say the least, very small and had extensive mould in the bathroom along with a cracked sink and a filthy shower screen. This was most disappointing.
The clientele are of an older generation and it was very evident we were a bit too young for there.
The common areas are silent. No light music or media and as it wasn t particularly busy no ambient chatter.
Our booking showed we had a late check out but reception informed us that we had to leave at 11.
We were overcharged by the spa for our treatments which I had to deal with and although I received a refund no apology was offered. We also booked the thermal journey to be told when we got there that part of the journey we paid for was broken and couldn t be used. Add to that that we were also advised that our relaxing thermal journey would have work men in the space where people are in swim wear etc. Again no apology offered or refund for what we couldn t use etc. I understand that things break down and the spa staff cannot control this but to take full payment while only offering part of the package is scandalous.
In short the building is beautiful but the interior needs serious updating and repair and there isn t much to do nearby.
Great location
We enjoyed everything about our short break except for the dinners, which were not very good.
Hotel Experience
The staff are excellent and the location is beautiful. The shower cubicle in the room was small and barely accessible for a disabled person. The bed was very comfortable.
The restaurant and bar food and menus were mediocre and very disappointing. Overall we would stay here again but eat elsewhere.
