10 Dog-friendly Hotels & Cottages two Hours from London

Now is the ideal to book a dog-friendly holiday to reward your pet for being such a faithful friend during lockdown. So, whether your fancy a beach getaway or country escape, we have some wonderful suggestions all around a two-hour drive from London or less – the perfect choice too for new pups who may not want too long a journey!
 
 

1. Bray Cottages, Berkshire

 

 
A wonderful choice for a gourmet dog-friendly break in a super luxury cottage, less than an hour from London! You will be enchanted by any of the lovely dog-friendly cottages which are situated in the delightful village of Bray. Spend the day walking in the wonderful countryside nearby – the owner’s labradors may also be free to join you on a walk – and in the evening enjoy a gourmet meal at Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck (book ahead), the Waterside Inn  or his dog-friendly gastro pub The Crown.  You can leave your dog in the cottage or pet-sitting can be arranged. Beds, bowls and treats provided.
 
 

2. Blue Door Barns, East Sussex

 

 
Just under two hours from London and a world away are Blue Door Barns – a cluster of stylishly decorated dog-friendly barns and stables set around a pretty courtyard garden in rural Sussex. The super dog-friendly barns are not only close to the sea, (Seaford is just a short drive away, with beach and cliff top walks) but they also offer direct access on to the South Downs Way – with fabulous walks for four legged friends. Book one barn or if you are a party of 12 why not book all three? A lovely breakfast is provided and in house catering can also be arranged. 
 
 

3. Pennyhill Park, Surrey

 

 
Pennyhill Park is set in 123 acres of fairy-tale woodland, making the perfect place to relax and unwind with lovely woodland walks for you and your pup. At just over an hour’s drive from central London, Pennyhill is a wonderful retreat for four-legged families not wanting to travel too far and perfect for a puppy’s first trip. There’s a luxury spa, indoor and outdoor pools and a fabulous Michelin starred restaurant. After a long walk, your pooch can relax in their comfy bed and enjoy being pampered by the in-house team of dog-loving pet sitters.
 

 

4. The Bell Inn in Ticehurst, East Sussex

 

 

Located just an hour and a half from London, this is one of our most dog-friendly destinations – and it’s seriously dreamy too! Located in the heart of the beautiful village of Ticehurst village, this stylish yet quirky 16th century hotel features charming decor and offers dog-friendly rooms in the hotel or luxury lodges, including the Love Nest, which comes with its own gardens and fire pit. Country walks on the doorstep and coastal towns and beaches are just a short drive away. Plus you can dine with your dog in the super cool bar in the evening. What more could you ask for!

 

5. The Merry Harriers, Surrey

 

 
Just a stone’s throw from the capital is the Merry Harriers, a charming, traditional pub in a gorgeous location deep in the Surrey Hills. For a unique glamping experience you and your furry friend can stay in one of their delightfully quirky Shepherd’s huts, which surround a tranquil pond and offer stunning views to the Surrey Hills beyond. Each hut features underfloor heating, a wood burning stove and charming decor. In the summer months you can even sit back and relax in your very own loungers, whilst enjoying the individual fire pits of an evening. Llama walking is an option, and after a day of walks in the hills, you can enjoy a delicious three course dinner at the delightful 16th century inn with Fido by your side.
 

 

6. The Lygon Arms, Cotswolds, Worcestershire

 

 
Just over two hours from London is one of our favourite dog-friendly hotels, the Lygon Arms – a luxury coaching inn situated in the gorgeous Cotswolds village of Broadway. There are many great walks right from the doorstep; we especially recommend a climb up to Broadway Tower where there’s a lovely dog-friendly cafe and stunning views that span across 17 counties. There’s a fabulous spa that offers a variety of beauty treatments and also includes a nails and tails spa day – joint treatments for you and your pooch! Dog friendly rooms come with a dog bed, treats and dog bowls for food. There’s also a muddy paws station located in the courtyard, perfect after a day of adventurous Cotswold walks.
 

 

7. The Hive, Kent

 

 
The Hive is a super bright and spacious dog-friendly hideaway nested in a rural location just a bone’s throw from Tunbridge Wells, with London and the Kent coast just one hour away. This beautifully designed open plan space was inspired by the surrounding nature and organic beekeeping, complete with contemporary furniture, exposed beams, pieces of art, industrial retro lights, a cosy log burner and soft rugs. In the summer months enjoy the heated swimming pool in the garden of the main house. Just a short walk away is the Hare in Langton Green, a lovely dog-friendly pub that serves exquisite food. You and Fido can also embark upon the 7-mile Langton Green walk which starts from outside the pub itself. 
 

8. The Thomas Lord, Hampshire

 

 

Just an hour and a half from London is the Thomas Lord, which combines a super dog-friendly pub with five beautifully built, luxury wood cabins with doors leading out to the lovely grounds. Perfectly positioned in the quaint Hampshire village of West Meon and among the picturesque rolling hills, this makes a marvelous dog-friendly getaway that places you right in the heart of the Meon valley. The cabins are located close to the historic market town of Petersfield, and there are wonderful countryside walks from the doorstep. The pub itself has a reputation for its excellent food, especially the Sunday Roast! 

 

9. The Tractor Shed, Great Tew, Oxfordshire

 

 
Ideal for a romantic getaway for two plus your trusty hound, dog-friendly the Tractor Shed is a charming one bedroom barn which once upon a time was a tractor shed. Set in a group of converted farm buildings  in Great Tew, The Tractor Shed makes a great base for cosy evenings in and romantic walks with Fido. Tucked away in the best part of the Cotswolds, Soho Farmhouse is just down the road, with 14 acres of grounds to roam, The Tractor Shed offers every comfort with a beautiful kitchen, original stone table and 48-inch TV complete with Sky. The cottage is the ideal hideaway, with  gorgeous dog-friendly village pub, The Falkland Arms, just a 15-minute stroll away! And if you fancy teaming up with some friends you can rent other properties on the estate.

 

10. The Manor House, Wiltshire

 

 
Two hours from London is the magical Cotswolds dog-friendly Manor House with oddles of charm and its very own pub, The Castle Inn. The hotel dates back to the 14 century and has lovely features including panelling and original beams. Stay in one of their truly gorgeous dog-friendly mews cottages and enjoy wooftastic walks with your furry friend in the 365 acres of woodland and parkland and then dine in style in their Michelin starred Bybrook restaurant or with your dog at the Castle Inn. Fat boy dog beds, towels, bowls, doggie bags and treats are all provided along with maps for the best dog-walking routes close by.
