17th-century country house hotel Headlam Hall Hotel & Spa is a fabulous dog-friendly retreat located in the scenic Durham dales of northern England. Surrounded by rolling farmland, this historic hotel is an idyllic rural retreat with a luxury spa and golf spa. The interiors combine the historic features of the property with antique pieces as well as contemporary country design throughout, and the hotel has an excellent reputation for its hospitality, cuisine and fabulous setting. Owned and run by the Robinson family, the hotel's very own Labrador, Jack Russell, Norfolk Terrier and Miniature Schnauzer may well be seen around the hotel and village! Set over four-acres, the hotel’s impressive walled garden is the perfect place for a relaxing stretch of the legs with your four-legged friend, with an abundance of fantastic countryside walks to enjoy in the nearby area.

Bedrooms & Suites

The dog-friendly bedrooms are located on the ground floor and benefit from private parking right outside their doors. All having been recently refurbished, the dog-friendly Mews bedrooms offer an eclectic countryside design with wool fabrics, wood effect floors, rugs and interesting furnishings. Canine companions are supplied with a bed, bowl, treats and a welcome letter to help them settle in! For mucky pups, there is even an outdoor hosing area with towels to wash dirty paws.

These ground floor rooms are set back along the driveway in this pretty stone building and have private parking immediately outside the room. They have a stylish eclectic feel with wool fabrics and wood effect floors. The bathrooms have either shower over bath or a large walk-in shower only. These rooms can be booked as a pair (double and twin) as there is a private and secure lobby between the two rooms making them ideal family units.

Dine with Your Dog

The award-winning kitchen produces modern British food that reflects the fabulous location and seasonable produce of the region, including ingredients from Hall’s own kitchen garden. The Library Bar with its wall of books, framed historic deeds and eclectic feel is the perfect place to enjoy a drink and there is an excellent selection of local beers as well as fine wines from around the world to try. If you want to dine with your dog, you may do so in the attractive Library Bar in the Main Hall or the Spa Brasserie Cafe.

Walk along the river in Gainford just a few miles away - a beautiful historic village on the banks of the River Tees. With sweeping riverside beaches, ancient woodland, Saxon church, chocolate-box style architecture and its medieval village green, Gainford makes an ideal base for exploring the riches of North Yorkshire and County Durham. If you've left anything behind, there are two country stores within two miles of the hotel which sell pet accessories, toys and treats!
