Dog-Friendly Holidays to Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a stunning blend of rich history, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Best known for its medieval Old Town and elegant Georgian New Town, the city is framed by the dramatic backdrop of Arthur's Seat - an ancient volcano offering panoramic views, and the magnificent Edinburgh Castle that dominates the skyline. You will love exploring Edinburgh's many cobbled streets such as the Royal Mile and the colourful Victoria Street with your beloved canine companion by your side.
What Makes Edinburgh Perfect For Dogs?
Edinburgh is said to be one of the greenest cities in the world, so there are plenty of parks to visit that will set tails wagging! But that's not even scratching the surface. Edinburgh is super dog-friendly, but this should not be a surprise as it was home to the most loyal dog in the world - Greyfriars Bobby! In the 19th century, Bobby refused to leave his owner's grave for 14 years and became a local celebrity... Now, you can pay respects by the lovely statue at the corner of George IV Bridge, in front of Greyfriars Bobby Pub.
Apart from the Edinburgh Castle itself, many of the top attractions in Edinburgh will provide a warm welcome to four-legged friends - even St Giles Cathedral! This means you can really make the most of exploring the wonderful city together during your dog-friendly UK holiday.
What To Expect at a Dog-Friendly Holiday in Edinburgh?
Whether you choose to wander the cobbled streets of Royal Mile and Victoria Street, or hike up to Arthur's Seat, expect to do plenty of walking with your canine companion when you are on a dog-friendly holiday in Edinburgh.
Dog-friendly Edinburgh is also home to some of the best pet-friendly hotels and dog-friendly cottages you can find. They are exceptionally cosy, comfortable, and feature all the amenities you need for a relaxing stay. Some of our dog-friendly properties even have exclusive offers you won't find anywhere else! So keep your eyes peeled for those as they can include dog beds, bowls, treats, and other delights to make both your holiday's extra special!

Our Dog-Friendly Insider Tips for Edinburgh
One of the top things to do on your dog-friendly holiday to Edinburgh is walking along the Royal Mile that is located in Edinburgh's Old Town. Here, you will find hundreds of Scottish Gift Shops, Whisky Stores, and dog-friendly pubs where you can settle down for a drink or bite to eat.
Along the way to Edinburgh Castle, you will discover beautiful old gothic buildings and architectural gems like Scott Monument and the New College grounds. Even though dogs are not allowed in Edinburgh Castle, you can take in the lovely views of the castle from down below in the beautiful Princes Street Gardens. This parkland is very peaceful and has a pretty fountain in the centre, perfectly aligned with the castle - this makes for some fantastic photoshoots!
If you have an adventurous four-legged friend on your hands, you can enjoy a bracing hike up to Arthur's Seat - the remains of a dormant volcano! From the very top, you will be rewarded with wonderful views of the city, especially on sunny days. If the hike isn't for you, we recommend exploring Calton Hill instead. It's far lower than Arthur's Seat and still provides amazing views overlooking the city.
Of course, nothing is more dog-friendly than searching for Greyfriars Bobby! The statue can be found just opposite the National Museum of Scotland and in front of Greyfriars Bobby Pub. There is also a shrine for the adorable terrier in the Graveyard as well, where many visitors have left sticks to pay their respects!
After a day of much exploration, unwind within one of our dog-friendly holiday cottages with an enclosed garden or hotels right within the city.
