    Around 130 public footpaths cover the area, perfect for walking and exploring, and Stoke-on-Trent, Hanley (hosting the Staffordshire Hoard), Stafford and Newcastle-under-Lyme can all be reached in under half an hour. Other places of interest include Trentham Gardens and Monkey Forest and Bridgemere Garden Centre. National Trust properties Shugborough Hall and Weston Park, Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and the theme parks of Alton Towers and Drayton Manor are all around an hour away. Ideal as a touring base for discovering the Staffordshire countryside and the southern Peak District National Park, this large comfortable home is suitable for families and friends who wish to escape on holiday. The Old Vicarage is close to a delightful pub and numerous walks, and is ideally situated to explore the mill heritage which is prevalent throughout this area. The mills are full of history, with links to the famous pottery industry close by. Take a short drive into Uttoxeter which has a huge array of shops and restaurants to enjoy, don’t forget to visit the racecourse too if you fancy a flutter. Nearby is the Churnet Valley Railway, originally opened in 1849 and now an attraction for steam enthusiasts and families alike! The Potteries Museum, located in Stoke-on-Trent, offers an opportunity to find out about the history of the area and see a world famous collection of locally produced pottery. The historic Wedgwood Ceramic collection is located at the Wedgwood factory in Barlaston, only 3 miles away.     Tawny Barn is located on the outskirts of the village of Longnor which sits around 7 miles from the nearest town of Buxton, and just under 10 miles to the Staffordshire town of Leek. You can walk directly from your doorstep onto the Manifold Valley trail or into the village of Longnor which is just over 1 mile, where you will find a local shop and a good pub. Should you choose to visit the local towns, Buxton has a lot to offer with a fantastic park known as the Pavilion Gardens, The Opera House which has shows on weekly or its many places to eat and shop. There are further local walks to be enjoyed such as the High Peak Trail, Tissington Trail, Monsal Head or a walk across Dovedale’s famous stepping stones.
    If you enjoy history then a visit to Chatsworth House is a must, just under 15 miles from the property, Chatsworth House is a magnificent stately home which you can walk through, enjoy the gardens, or if you have children with you, the farm yard is great fun; call in at the farm shop before you head back home. If you are a thrill seeker, Tawny Barn lies just 16 miles away from Alton Towers Theme Park, open seasonally.
