The garden and terrace of the cottage is a great place to relax and watch the varied visiting birds, and for cosy nights, the lounge with wood burning stove is the perfect place to be. This is a beautiful retreat to really get away from it all. The village, which is located in the Upper Tywi Valley boasts an award winning real ale pub with a reputation for great food, so good the Duchess of Cornwall has popped in for a drink as HRH Prince Charles has a country residence nearby.
The local area is steeped in history and tales, one such being the legend of highwayman Twm Siôn Cati, who hid out in caves near the village. The county of Carmarthenshire, known as ’The Garden of Wales’ has become a big draw for walkers, cyclists, anglers and lovers of the outdoors and is the largest county in southern Wales, stretching from Carmarthen Bay in the south to the western Brecon Beacons and Cambrian Mountains in the north. It offers rich landscapes, gardens, ancient castles, wildlife and sandy beaches as well as market towns brimming with local produce, chic shopping and eateries.
Llandeilo is one such town, less than 30 minutes drive away and the market town of Llandovery is just 10 minutes drive. The National Botanic Garden of Wales, 11 miles, with its great glasshouse dome at its centre, is a year round attraction, and within the Brecon Beacons National Park there are masses of paths and trails for walkers, runners, cyclists, mountain bikers, golfers, horse riders and wildlife watchers. This lovely 1900s barn was formerly a cow shed and milking parlour, and has been converted to a high standard with luxury fixtures and fittings. It is situated on a working beef and sheep farm with a pedigree Hereford suckler herds, sheep and goats and lies adjacent to the owners’ home. This semi-detached property is all one level and has a family bathroom, a double bedroom with en-suite facilities and a twin bedroom. The corridor leads to an open plan living space and the fabulous fitted kitchen has all the necessary appliances you could need. There is also a lovely breakfast bar for you to enjoy your meals whilst looking at the open countryside through the patio doors. The living area has a wood burner, ideal for keeping you cosy on those colder evenings, and patio doors lead out to a patio area and the garden, great for exercising the dogs, and children. After a long walk, imagine relaxing in the private hot tub just looking out onto the rolling green hills – perfect!
Ammanford itself has a coffee roastery serving fantastic coffee as well as breakfasts. There is also a large selection of shops, supermarkets and local pubs, some serving good food and with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and castles. Pantyffynnon station is within walking distance of the property on Heart of Wales line to Shrewsbury or Cardiff in the other
direction.
There is also plenty to do in the area, with the beaches of Gower approximately 18 miles. Opposite the majestic village church, this Grade II listed building is thought to have been constructed in the mid to late 19th century. It is part of a virtually intact and coherent group of houses at the centre of the pretty and tranquil village of Myddfai. It was originally the village post office and shop, as the name suggests, and has been in the owner’s family since 1921. The owner’s grandfather (who was the postmaster) and great grandfather were also the village blacksmiths, and the Old Smithy can still be seen in the village, identified by a horseshoe over the door.
The Old Post Office shop front and doorway are still there today and inside the house, some of the shop shelving is still in use on the wall as a bookcase. The shop door has beautiful stained glass panels that create patterns on the walls when the evening sunlight passes through it. Outside, the small post box is still in use and is set within the wall of the house. The post office was finally closed in 1988, when the owner’s grandmother was no longer well enough to run it, but it has remained a cherished and charming family house and is now available for holidaymakers to enjoy and appreciate. Inside this cosy cottage there is an electric wood burner effect fire in the living room for homely nights, or the study offers the perfect place to sit and read or families may enjoy using the games console. The attractive sun room is the place to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Sitting here you can take in the spectacular views of the rolling countryside beyond the large enclosed lawned garden and patio. Over the years, the stories of the Physicians of Myddfai have become bound up with the legend of Llyn y Fan Fach – the Lady of the Lake. You can learn all about this at the Myddfai Visitor Centre, which is situated just a few yards from The Old Post Office. Here you will also find a fascinating craft shop and a lovely café; the perfect place to relax whilst you learn about the legends.

Moss Cottage is situated in the heart of the coastal town of Burry Port, on the doorstep of the Millennium Coastal footpath that meanders through the stunning scenery of Llanelli through to the historic town of Kidwelly.
