Award-winning beaches, perfect coves, iconic castles and pretty harbours make days out by car or on foot along the 60 miles of Heritage coastline a must. This region inspired Dylan Thomas to write some of his finest poetry. It is framed by the Cambrian Mountains, known as the backbone of Wales, and is so rich in wildlife, legends and fascinating landscapes. Look out for birds of prey such as red kites and buzzards soaring high above, and dolphins or seals in the waters. Drive along the Plynlimon Mountains, through the Tywi Forest or visit the impressive Abergwesyn Pass, and marvel at the solitude.

For a truly authentic Welsh family holiday experience, this is the area to be. The locals are justifiably proud of this region with its rich local folklore which tells of tricking the devil, mermaids, shipwrecked kings and princesses, and even an explanation of why gulls sound as if they’re crying. The little gems of Georgian Aberaeron, historic Cardigan, salty New Quay, traditional Tregaron and Lampeter are waiting to be explored. To the south, the coves of Mwnt, Cwmtydu, Penbryn, Tresaith – which resemble illustrations from books about pirates, are all within easy reach. To the north, around Aberystwyth and Borth, there are vast stretches of sand. Food plays a big part in the experience of Ceredigion, and a wide choice is to be found in the shops, restaurants and cafés offering regional products and ingredients such as the world beating Teifi Valley cheeses, the ubiquitous Welsh cakes, bara brith and of course, some spectacularly good seafood from the coast.

No visit to the area would be complete without a ride on the steam railway. From the coast at Aberystwyth, watch the scenery change whilst travelling through ancient woodland and rugged mountain scenery, with the line clinging to the hillside to reach Devil’s Bridge, home of the famous Mynach Falls and Devil’s Punchbowl. The picturesque harbour towns of Newquay and Aberaeron offer unblemished beaches, restaurants, boutique shopping and art galleries that are waiting to be explored. Away from the coast, Ceredigion’s countryside is just as promising, with an array of charming market towns and historic castles dotted around the county. For an adventurous day out, take a short drive to the rugged Cambrian Mountains and explore the Cors Caron Nature Reserve, which flourishes with wildlife and the historic ruins of Strata Florida Abbey, which is one of Wales’ most important historical sites. Ty Canol (ref UKC4208) has wheelchair access, a ground floor wetroom and two ground floor bedrooms, making it the ideal choice for those with less mobility. There are three further bedrooms on the first floor along with a bathroom. Most of the bedrooms feature their own Smart TV with Netflix, and outside is a large private garden and hot tub, so you are well catered for here.

With breathtaking views over Cardigan Bay, the properties are located just 100 yards from the cliff top. Gwbert-on-Sea is a small, quiet hamlet on the shore of the mouth of the Teifi Estuary, just a couple of miles outside Cardigan. The settlement takes its name from the wandering St Gwbert, said to have landed here and taken shelter in a cave. The shoreline is marked by rugged cliffs and small shingle bays, with large stretches of sandbank exposed at low tide, and the area gives superb views over a diverse and scenic landscape. The ancient oak woodland of the Teifi Valley, the tidal marshes of the estuary, and the boundary of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park can all be appreciated from here.

The 18-hole golf course at Cardigan Golf Club also offers fine views of the estuary and sea, and from the headland you can look across to Cardigan Island. The mud and sand flats of the estuary attract a great variety of birds, and in the autumn waders such as the redshank, oystercatcher and curlew can be seen feeding here, along with several species of migrating duck. The headland of Craig y Gwbert is the site of an Iron Age Fort, with pieces of pottery found near Gwbert, now on display in Cardigan museum. All the outside areas are covered by CCTV. Beach 7 miles. Aberystwyth is West Wales’ premier seaside resort and a historic town, offering varied shopping, bars and restaurants including both a one and two Michelin star restaurants.Art centre with theatre and cinema, pier and long promenade, castle ruins, the National Library of Wales (tours available) or take the Vale of Rheidol steam train to Devil’s Bridge and Waterfalls. A trip to Cardigan is a must, try the bustling local farmers market and visit the restored Cardigan Castle with over 900 years of history waiting to be explored. The Welsh Wildlife Centre is located in the nearby small village of Cilgerran and is one of the best wetland reserves in Wales. Perhaps take a short drive to Cenarth Falls, where if your lucky enough, you may see the salmon leaping up through the falls travelling upstream. The colourful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron is nearby and is worth a visit, as is the National Trust property of Llanerchaeron. Visit the coastal towns of Aberystwyth or Cardigan, both an easy drive away, or venture inland to the market towns of Lampeter, Tregaron or Newcastle Emlyn.

Craigfryn is situated on the owner’s land, with 6 lakes available for coarse and fly fishing – equipment for all fishing needs can be hired on-site. Located in a lovely hamlet just over 4 miles from the fabulous harbour town of Aberaeron, a Georgian jewel with elegant colour washed houses surrounding the harbour - reputedly planned and designed by John Nash. There is a range of small, interesting shops, craft centres, pubs and restaurants.

Cardigan Bay has lots to see and do in and around the town. With two shingle beaches to enjoy, good launching for small boats from the harbour, boat trips to spot the marine life, sea angling, fishing for salmon/sea trout on the river Aeron or take a cycle ride along one of the 5 Wales Cycle Trails. Why not take a stroll along ’Lover’s Walk’ past four weirs and along the river valley to Llanachaeron, or try a coastal cliff top walk with stunning sea views and spectacular wildlife. The property is also just 5 miles from New Quay Beach, New Quay is a quaint seaside town, and you will find an array of little shops, cafés, restaurants and pubs. Enjoy fish and chips along the harbour, whilst looking out for the frequently visiting bottlenose dolphins. There are crab fishing boats and fishing trips, and if you would like to see the marine life, take a dolphin survey trip.

Explore the 60 miles of Ceredigion coastline, on the coastal path, and there’s no shortage of beaches either. Visit the secluded National Trust cove of Cwmtydu, where seal pups can often be seen here during the autumn months. Close by is New Quay Honey Farm, with its tea rooms and shop selling honey and beeswax.

An elegant pet friendly Victorian villa which has been refurbished, decorated and furnished to the highest residential standards for holidays in West Wales, near Tresaith beach. Pets are welcome too. Lots of the original features have been retained with tiled floors, Victorian fireplaces, cornices to name but a few along with modern, comfortable furniture and a luxury fitted kitchen make this a pleasing blend of old and new. The nearest beach to Morfa Ganol Farmhouse (less than one mile on foot) is the very secluded and pretty beach of Traeth Bach. Access to this beach is a very steep scramble down from the coast.

Llain cottage is nestled within the grounds of owner’s home along a private track and surrounded by countryside and woodlands and around 5 minutes from the hamlet of Cross Inn where the village shop is and a similar distance to the coastal resort of New Quay. At the end of the lane discover the honey farm and enjoy a tour.
There are lovely sandy beaches just a few minutes’ drive away. The picture postcard town of New Quay sits above the glistening Cardigan Bay, and there is a variety of eateries and pubs, along with individual seaside shops. Take a stroll along the harbour and try to spot the resident pods of bottle nosed dolphins that can be seen almost daily.
