There is also a cinema and a great selection of restaurants, pubs and cafés. The resort of Newquay is about 16 miles to the north with its spectacular surf beaches at Fistral and Watergate Bay. Padstow, with its fine selection of restaurants influenced by Rick Stein is just over 20 miles. The yachting centres of Mylor, Falmouth and St Mawes are all within easy reach of the hut. There is a watersports centre at nearby Loe Beach where you can learn to sail or windsurf.     Roof Tops is situated on the edge of the village of Stratton, a peaceful location with countryside all around. Stratton has two local pubs serving excellent food and a post office, all within a 5-minute walk. The village is just over 1 mile from the coastal town of Bude with extensive sandy beaches, sea swimming pool, leisure centre, surfing and a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. There is also a range of golf courses in the vicinity. Stratton is a great base from which to explore many of Cornwall and Devon’s attractions.
    Bude is Cornwall’s most northern town and has been a favourite seaside resort since Victorian times. The town has excellent facilities and a wide selection of interesting, independent shops. This idyllic area has a large amount of bird life for the dedicated twitcher and some wonderful, scenic walks along the Southwest coastal path. The rolling waves are great for surfing all year round and the footpaths by the restored canal or on the Southwest Coast Path offer you a superb opportunity to explore and appreciate the outstanding countryside. Bude also has a superb golf course, indoor swimming pool, bowling alley/indoor play area, and a heritage centre at Bude Castle.     Situated just north of Bude with fabulous access to all of the glorious beaches including Northcott Mouth beach and Sandymouth a bit further to the north, both of which have glorious expanses of golden sand at low tide. Bude itself has a wealth of restaurants, pubs, cafés, and galleries, a great playground and interesting canal. Further north and you are over the border into Devon where Clovelly is well worth a visit. The property adjoins another house, although the garden and driveway shown in the photos is exclusive to Skyber Barnacott.
    The closest village to Skyber Barnacott is Kilkhampton which dates back to before Saxon times. There you can find the remains of a 12th century motte and bailey style Norman castle. It is a very well-presented and finished holiday cottage set deep in a quiet rural location in the lush Cornish countryside, but only minutes from many pretty sandy beaches and coves. This ’upside down’ detached cottage provides the best views from the living area and balcony. It has a bright, stylish, open-plan living area with original beams and a large balcony through the bi-folding doors where you can relax with a glass of your favourite tipple. The owner lives adjacent and is on hand should you need advice or assistance during your stay.

    The historic fishing village of Mevagissey is 3½ miles away, with narrow lanes that all seem to lead to the pretty, bustling, working harbour. Here you will find many great pubs serving local food and ales, quaint coffee shops, and some great local independent shops. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, a formerly overgrown and ‘lost’ gem of a garden, has been restored and is worth a visit, even if it’s to see the ‘jungle’ and play hide and seek with the kids.

    There are pretty sub-tropical gardens to visit, stunning scenery, quaint fishing villages, and beaches, many with sailing, diving, and kayaking. Porthpean, 4 miles away, is a favourite with the locals who kayak along the coast looking for seals that bask on the quiet beaches. The Eden Project is another world-class attraction within easy reach. Fowey is nearby, a seafaring town and former home of Daphne Du Maurier. It makes a great day out, especially for the restaurants and the cafés. You can catch a ferry from here to Mevagissey in the high season (weather permitting) and is a great way to see the coastline of St Austell Bay.

    There is a wealth of activities locally including surfing, sailing, swimming, walking, horseriding, and many cycle trails with bike hire available.     Stone Farm Cottage is a beautifully presented granite cottage with rolling rural views derelict tin mine engine houses dot the landscape and there are magnificent sea views from the top of the garden.     Bojewyan is a small settlement to the east of Pendeen which is famous for its industrial heritage. Pendeen village has a general store and Post office and there are four local pubs serving food. Three of these, as well as a takeaway fish and chip shop and a Spanish tapas restaurant, are all within a 2-minute drive or a 10-minute walk from the property.
    The St Just area has a rich mining history and has now been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is also in one of the twelve Cornish Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Pendeen Lighthouse and the secluded Portheras Cove and beach are a mile to the north. The coastline in this part of Cornwall is simply outstanding and the road from St Ives to St Just is possibly the most scenic drive in the county. Beach 1¾ miles.

At the same time, you can sit in the deep window seats watching yachts and ships pass by on the horizon. Lavender Cottage (CWC575149 was once the estate’s potting shed and is an oasis of calm.     Place Barton is located high on a ridge on St Anthony Headland and is part of the Place Estate, this is the perfect place to escape from reality there are few better places to enjoy the true beauty of the idyllic Roseland Peninsula. Surrounded by rolling rural landscapes, stunning walks with the best views of St Mawes, Place House, Pendennis Castle, Falmouth and the Carrick Roads. Explore St Anthony Head and the Lighthouse, famously used as the base for the TV series Fraggle Rock and also Molunan Beaches which are right by the lighthouse. As a bonus you can take the car down a private lane to within a couple of hundred yards of the beach, closer if you bring a 4x4, and are confident of its off-roading capability.
