There are many established public footpaths to enjoy which lead directly through Carlton-in-Coverdale and carry on through many local villages including West Scrafton, Horseshoe and Gammersgill to name only a few. The village Pub, ‘The Forester’s Arms’, has an excellent reputation, and there are also numerous pubs that provide a handy stop off during a day’s walk. A little further afield, but still only four miles away, guests will be able to visit the historic village of Middleham. Once the home of Richard III, Middleham is steeped in history and has some great attractions to visit. Nestled between two rivers, the magnificent castle of Middleham has the largest castle keep in the north of England and a Royal heritage that once earned it the title of the Windsor of the North. Horse racing fans really must take a trip too as the village is famous for its rich horse racing history and is home to many of the top stables in the country. The market town of Leyburn is also just five miles away and offers guests the chance to browse around the weekly farmers market offering local produce and arts and crafts. There are plenty also plenty of tea shops, restaurants and cafes, so make sure you plan a whole day in Leyburn. Perfect for families of all ages guests will surely want to visit the Chocolate Museum in Leyburn and also the fun attraction of The Forbidden Corner which is only a short drive away. A little further afield, but still within an easy hours drive, guests will be able to take a day trip to York, Ripon, Harrogate, Richmond or the cathedral city of Durham.

Beech Cottage is warm and welcoming and offers comfortable accommodation throughout. The lounge is small and cosy and has an open fire and original features. There is a separate dining room and kitchen with good quality fixtures and fittings. On the first floor guests will find a single bedroom, double bedroom and twin bedroom which all offer great views and are very well presented throughout. The family bathroom is on the first floor and offers a shower over bath and heated towel rail. The WC is separate to the bathroom. There are gardens to the front and rear of the property and guests can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of the location whilst listening to the nearby stream that runs to the rear and side of the cottage.

Bondgate is located just yards from the pretty market square in the centre of Helmsley. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills, this historic, terraced cottage is ideal for a family or a group of friends to enjoy all that this area has to offer. Renovated throughout in 2019, but retaining original beams and wooden floors, this pretty cottage provides a real homely Yorkshire feel.

Entering through the rear of the property via the enclosed private courtyard into the kitchen/diner, this room offers a traditional handmade farmhouse style kitchen with wooden work tops and Belfast sink. It is flooded with natural light from the French doors. The large range cooker will delight the chef in the family and the dining area, with views out through the French doors to the patio area, provides the perfect social space to dine in an evening or to gather over a coffee and afternoon cake whilst planning the next days adventure. To the front of the property is a large living room with gas wood burner, deep leather sofas and a ‘snuggle’ chair. There is a large collection of books to enjoy if you wish to have a quiet night in or perhaps partake in a board game from the selection provided. All three bedrooms offer lovely views across the rooftops of Helmsley. With deep comfy mattresses and high quality soft furnishings, these rooms will certainly allow you to have a great night sleep. The house bathroom is just across the corridor from the bedroom. Step outside the property straight into the very heart of Helmsley which is classed as the jewel in Yorkshires crown. This beautiful estate village is where the Howardian Hills and the North York Moors National Park collide offering some of the finest views and countryside around. Helmsley is also a paradise for walkers where the Ebor Way, Cleveland Way and Inn Way meet. With a great reputation for its hospitality, Helmsley’s market square is a meeting point for locals, walkers and cyclists alike. The locals are only too happy to pass the time of day with visitors! This beautiful Yorkshire town certainly knows how to keep its visitors happy and busy, with independent shops, cafés and eateries, including Michelin starred restaurants, and castle ruins, walled garden, bird of prey centre, microbrewery and two abbey ruins. If guests plan to bring a second vehicle or have visitors then the only option for this is the public car park, which is 220 yards away by foot and which costs £6.50 per day per car to park. This car park will become busy during peak periods, and there is no other public parking in the village.
There is a small, pretty harbour close by with a view northward along the rocky shore to the spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Explore the 20 miles of Northumberland Heritage Coastline recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with its walking trails and cycling routes. The welcoming village of Embleton is only 3 miles north with its wide sweep of golden sandy beach which has won the public poll of ‘Beach of the Year’ in the 2017 BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards. Beadnell Bay is a further 4 miles north and a popular destination for water-sports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Two miles further up the coastline is the traditional fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour.
