In 15 minutes, guests can walk from the property down through the village lanes to the beach. It provides an excellent base for those wishing to explore the east coast of Yorkshire and what it has to offer. Close by, visit the famous RSPB Bempton Cliffs, where you can observe puffins and gannets in their natural habitat. There are some fantastic walks and cycle rides along the rugged cliffs of the east coast, some of it being part of the Cleveland Way. Just 8 miles down the coast, visit the hustle and bustle of the traditional seaside resort of Bridlington. With its working fishing port, you can see the catch brought in on the quayside. There is also a large sandy beach and rock pools for the kids to go crabbing. The famous Spa theatre also provides excellent entertainment throughout the year. Guests can take a short land train journey to Sewerby Hall and Gardens, just one of the many stately homes in the area. Burton Agnes and Sledmere are also worth a visit and for those who would like a trip out; you have the fantastic medieval city of York, which is just over an hour away. The beautiful market town of Beverley is just a 30-minute drive away, where you can browse the local shops or even visit the racecourse. Beach ½ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The Garden Cottage stands detached in the beautiful grounds of Thorpe Hall. Built around 1790, part of the building used to be the old apple store, where the apples from the orchards on the estate would be collected by the gardeners and stored here. Lovingly restored, the owners have kept lots of the original features, and the dining room has limed oak furniture. It is a perfect ’chocolate box’ cottage. Downstairs has been designed with full disabled access throughout the ground floor - there is a twin bedroom with an en-suite wet room for the less mobile (with emergency alert). This is a perfect property for holidaymakers having a family mix of all ages: there are three bedrooms on the ground floor and two on the first floor. There is also disabled access to the garden. All the rooms are spacious and light, and with the extra living room, it is ideal for families to have their own space. The cottages are set amongst the beautiful country estate of Thorpe Hall, a magnificent retreat in the Yorkshire Wolds and situated in Rudston, near Bridlington. The Hall is a Grade II building which was built in the early 1700s and is still very much a working estate, and it forms an important part of the local community. The local village of Rudston is less than a mile away, where the churchyard contains the monolith from which the village gets its name (Rood Stane). The cottage is situated a mile from the village, where you will find a small shop along the way.
The nearest town is Bridlington just over 4 miles away, and from there you have access along the east coast from Whitby, Scarborough and Filey, right down to the resort of Hornsea. The area has lots of stately homes to visit, including Sewerby Hall, which is only a few minutes drive away, a fine example of an early Georgian residence and renowned for its gardens and a zoo. Castle Howard and Burton Agnes Hall are also just a short drive away. Flamborough Head and RSPB Bempton Cliffs are 15 minutes by car, and boast fantastic opportunities to observe puffins, gannets, dolphins and seals in their natural habitat. Along the coast at Scarborough, you have the Stephen Joseph Theatre which is known for its premieres of almost all of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays. It also boasts the largest open air theatre in Europe. During your stay, why not try some real country pursuits, such as coarse fishing or trying out some of the many bridleways across the estate; you are very close to Fraisthorpe where you can ride along the beach. Guests can have free livery and grazing for their horses, just bring the food and bedding! There’s so much to see and do at Thorpe Hall and it’s all within easy reach, and from February 2018 you can rent a hot tub for your stay (contact the owner direct for details). The Roost is a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom detached property with an enclosed garden in the grounds of Manor Farm Cottages in the village of Buckton. Close to the RSPB Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve where you can see puffins, gannets and guillemots in their natural habitat, the area is a bird watcher’s haven, home to more than 250,000 sea birds. You can walk to Bempton Cliffs from the cottages, or it is a 5-minute drive.

The cottage is a great base to visit the east coast, Dalby Forest, the North York Moors National Park, the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds made famous by the David Hockney paintings, and the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is some excellent cycling in the area with the Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Route on your doorstep, with its scenic 146-mile tour of the East Riding and North Yorkshire. With breathtaking views along the coast. The owner is a keen cyclist himself and knows exactly what you need by providing an excellent bike store, along with a repair and wash area and tools and sprays required for servicing the bikes.

The seaside resorts of Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are just a short drive away with large, open sandy beaches, caves and coves, or for those of you who prefer a quieter resort, Flamborough Head is close by with stunning walks along the clifftops from North to South Landing.

Visit the stately homes and beautiful gardens of Burton Agnes, Castle Howard and Sledmere House, and a children’s zoo and land train at Sewerby Hall. The bustling market towns of Malton, Pickering and Beverley, renowned for its minster and racecourse, are all worth a visit.

The historic city of York is just an hour away with its wide variety of museums including the Railway Museum, Castle Museum and the Jorvik Viking centre. York is very picturesque with cobbled streets surrounding the magnificent minster, along with river boat trips, street entertainers and an abundance of restaurants and real ale inns.

In Buckton and Bempton villages, you are just ½ mile from a cafe and art gallery, the village post office and corner shop, as well as the local pub, The White Horse.

Hornsea Mere offers watersports and fishing opportunities whilst Hornsea Freeport is a shopper’s paradise. Beverley is a short drive from the coast and has an excellent racecourse with a full racing calendar throughout the year. The market towns of Driffield and Market Weighton are also well worth a visit. A little further afield is the historic city of York. For those who enjoy exhilarating cliff walks, Flamborough and the Bempton Nature Reserve are close by, providing the opportunity to see puffins during the summer months. The stately homes of Burton Constable Hall and Grounds, Sledmere and Burton Agnes Hall aren’t far away and for a rainy day, a visit to The Deep, a spectacular aquarium based in Hull, is an absolute must.
