    Inglenook is located in the centre of Backbarrow in the South Lakes peninsula, a perfect base from which to visit many popular attractions in the Lake District. A short drive away is Newby Bridge. This popular area is home to the Lakes Aquarium and Windermere Lake cruises.

    The ’upside down’ house offers a large games room with football table, pool table, sofa and TV on the ground floor. The spacious master bedroom is also on the ground floor with a separate shower room. On the first floor is the open plan dining and kitchen area, a separate living room with a large multi-fuel burner taking centre stage, and fantastic views overlooking the river. There are also three double bedrooms and a family bathroom.

    A short drive away is the traditional village of Cartmel, famous for its horse racing weekends and also its sticky toffee pudding. This quirky village is definitely worth a visit. Whilst exploring this area you are close to Grange-over sands, a Victorian seaside town with many shops and cafés to enjoy. South Lakes Safari Zoo is also within easy reach and worth a visit.

    Backbarrow is the perfect base to explore the lakes, whether you are planning to enjoy walking a few of the 214 Wainwrights fells, cycling the fantastic roads around here or driving over to many other popular towns around Cumbria including Ulverston, Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere, then you really are spoilt for choice!     The moment you approach this beautifully converted chapel you know you’re in store for a lovely stay in a unique property. The large wooden chapel doors open to reveal a big hallway with a couple of rooms leading off to the sides. You come to a useful study room first which offers a little privacy or peace, and the opposite is a utility room providing the perfect place to dry and feed the dog, dry wet coats after a busy day’s walking in the Lakes. A second set of doors opens into an impressive, Instagram-worthy living space, with high vaulted ceilings, large leaded windows, and oak beams.
    Once you catch your breath, you can take in the large kitchen with all the amenities and space required to cater anything from a simple sandwich to a family feast. The breakfast bar is the ideal place to watch the chef show off their skills whilst enjoying a glass of wine before moving the feast to the large dining table, where you could easily imagine you were starring in an epic movie during a medieval banquet.

    The chapel is in the quiet Hamlet of Lowick Green near Spark Bridge but offers a great location to explore the scenery and attractions of the South Lakes area. There is a local pub The Farmers Arms. The iconic Coniston Water is just 10 miles away, offering a great location for wild swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking for those water enthusiasts. Alternatively, within a short drive, you can enjoy the world-famous Windermere water offering Lakeside towns to explore with an excellent range of independent shops, restaurants, pubs, or attractions like The World of Beatrix Potter. Take a lake cruise or hire your motorboat to enjoy this vast expanse of water. The Lumiere Festival takes place every couple of years in November and brings the city to life with live art, music and light shows in the open air theatre that the city becomes.

    Visit the fabulous Kynren outdoor spectacle in nearby Bishop Auckland (but do book in advance). A little further afield but still within an easy 30-minute drive, guests will be able to take a day trip out to the popular Beamish Living Museum, see the famous Angel of the North statue in Gateshead, enjoy a day’s shopping at the Metro Centre and explore the vibrant city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The heritage coast is within an hour’s drive, making Quebec a perfect location.

Nearby Alnwick, famed for the castle and gardens, is a short drive as is the start of the Heritage Coast stretching all the way up to Berwick on Tweed AONB.
