The cottage is situated on the edge of the unspoilt Peak District village of Monyash, just 4 miles from Bakewell; the delightful market town at the heart of the Peak District. During your stay be sure to add a meander around the picturesque village of Monyash and an afternoon exploring the shops and eateries in Bakewell to your agenda. Whilst this isn’t a coastal destination, you may think twice if you stumble across Matlock Bath, with its seaside-like row of amusement arcades and fish and chip shops. Also close by is the Heights of Abraham, sure to make for a great day out if you like caverns and cable cars that is - there’s something for everyone here and the scenery is not to be missed. Not forgetting about the sheer beauty of your surroundings; walking and cycling in this area proves to be popular and there are lots of unique country pubs around to finish your adventure with a reward. The cottage offers walking and cycling right from the doorstep, and within a 5-minute drive there are trials for walking, cycling and horse riding, and within 15 minutes is the Crich Tramway Museum. Little Barn is located next to the villages of Higham and Wessington where you will find country pubs serving food and real ale. Close by is Hardwick Hall, built in the 1590s by ’Bess of Hardwick’, the second most powerful woman in England after Queen Elizabeth I. The Hall, and even its original tapestries and textiles, have survived unaltered for four centuries, and it is now open to the public by the National Trust. Near the estate’s original water mill, still in operation and open to visitors, is the Hardwick Inn, also built in the 16th century, probably by the masons who built the hall.
A little further away are the delights of the Peak District, including Chatsworth House, a 30-minute drive, and the town of Matlock is just a 15-minute drive, with the amazing Heights of Abraham at nearby Matlock Bath, as well as some stunning countryside. For a nostalgic journey back in time through the Derbyshire countryside take a trip on one of Peak Rails steam engines, or visit Cromford Canal and take a trip into the past on an historic narrow boat. The towns of Chesterfield and Derby are just a 20-minute drive away, and nearby Nottinghamshire is also just 20-minutes away, here you can visit Nottingham’s castle or Sherwood Forest to go on a Robin Hood hunt! Close by is Teversal, a small village in Nottinghamshire which is surrounded by the Teversal Trail Visitors Centre, offering great access to the Teversal and Pleasley Trails network, perfect for enjoying a variety of walks and cycle routes. Redmonds Retreat is a mid-terraced cottage located within the village of Chinley. The village has two fantastic pubs serving home cooked meals and there are also direct train lines into Sheffield or Manchester. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy an abundance of walking and cycling routes to explore. The cottage itself has beed finished to a very good standard and is the perfect place for a couple or two friends. There is a lovely garden area at the front with table and chairs from where you can see the river. On entering the cottage, you are greeted by the open plan living area, which the owners have cleverly designed to feel spacious. There is a well-equipped kitchen, a great size TV with access to Sky, and comfy seating that can be made into a sofa-bed if required. On the first floor is the kingsize bedroom with its en-suite shower room. Redmonds Retreat is quaint and highly desirable for walkers or people just looking for an easy countryside escape.

When spending time outside of the property you will be spoilt for choice, with the numerous seating areas dotted around the property. In an excellent location, Hill Top Cottage is the perfect base for walking and exploring the Peak District. The many attractions in the area include Arkwright Mills, Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the lovely market towns of Bakewell and Matlock. The village of Crich, known as Cardale in the hit TV series ‘Peak Practice’ is full of character and history, and boasts a number of shops and several pubs.

There are walks around the village, home to the National Tramway Museum, and trams move up the valley to some of the most beautiful views of the Derbyshire Dales. Matlock, 7 miles away, offers a range of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions such as Gulliver’s Kingdom.

Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car that takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham, a great place for all the family with its show caves, nature trail, water gardens and Owl Maze. South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail. No better place to spend a break in the beautiful Peak District.

This cosy renovated barn has been furnished to a good standard and offers a great base to explore the Goyt Valley and Buxton on foot, cycle or by car. It has a galleried landing over the lounge leading to a good sized bedroom and bathroom. The cottage is only a short drive from the small town of Whaley Bridge and a stone’s throw away from many walks within the Peak District National Park. Fernilee is within walking distance of both Fernilee and Erwood reservoirs and the walks start from the front door. Ruby Cottage is a renovated one bedroom cottage, located in an elevated position in the quaint village of Longnor close to the popular spa town of Buxton. This ancient village is set in lovely moorland countryside, six miles to the southeast of Buxton. The River Dove flows to the north, the River Manfold to the south and large numbers of visitors came here to explore the upper reaches of these two famous valleys and the rugged scenery that surrounds them. The village is well equipped with a local store, a fish and chip shop, a newly refurbished pub, post office and Sweetilicious sweetie shop. The Packhorse at Crowdecote is less than a mile away and there are many other good pubs within a few mile radius. Information on these can be found in the cottage.

There are many stunning walks right from the doorstep and the property has the benefit of being close to many interesting Derbyshire towns and villages including Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, famous for its puddings, and Castleton with its amazing show caves and cliff top Peveril Castle. Attractions include stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, the Heights of Abraham, a cable car ride high above the gorge and Blue John Caves known for its semi-precious Blue John Stone. Buxton Opera House is also worth checking out to see what’s on.

Matlock Bath is a well known resort on the River Derwent. Visit the popular Heights of Abraham cable cars, enjoy fish and chips, and numerous entertainments throughout the year. The Matlock Bath illuminations and firework display are especially popular in autumn bringing in the crowds and lighting up the sky. A little further afield, Chatsworth House and Bakewell provide a wonderful day out, exploring the local businesses that line the streets. The location and property really are second to none and the perfect place for a break at any time of the year.

Originally a much loved home rather than a holiday let, Silk Hill Stables still retains its homely ambiance with many original features and great attention to detail. You’ll find lots of useful doggy extras, and as an added bonus by prior arrangement with the owner there is even an outdoor area on site where you can let your dogs have a run around stress free. A short walk will take you into the small friendly town of Whaley Bridge where you’ll find food serving pubs, some dog friendly, cafés and restaurants. 5 minutes the other way is the famous Buxwoth Basin and pub.
