Set amidst rolling countryside, this detached, 16th-century holiday cottage, one of the oldest cottages in Wickmere, is full of character and charm, with its beamed interior and inglenook fireplace with wood burner. Furnished and equipped to a very good standard, it enjoys a private enclosed garden with a patio terrace and furniture. There are many excellent walking and cycling opportunities with quiet lanes and designated trails direct from the doorstep. Visit bustling market towns, pretty villages and excellent sandy beaches. The seaside towns of Sheringham, 8 miles, and Cromer, 9 miles, offer an array of activities for all ages and excellent beaches. Other places to visit include Holt, Blakeney Quay and Norwich with its excellent shopping, cathedral, theatre, castle, museum, cafes and restaurants. National Trust properties include Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Sheringham Park. Wroxham, 18 miles, is the capital of the Norfolk Broads and has miles of inland waterways, where daily boat hire and river trips are available, as well as delightful waterside cafes, restaurants and shops. Seagulls enjoys far-reaching, spectacular views across the Blakeney salt-marshes from full-length windows in the first floor living room. It is set at the end of a quiet no-through road with a secluded garden. Over the road is the village playing field with tennis courts. Inside, the house is warm, convenient and attractive - practical for families with children, yet well-furnished to be relaxing and comfortable for the older generation. The well-equipped retro kitchen leads to the dining room which boasts a cosy wood burner.
Blakeney Quay is a short walk past the village shop (with bacon for the ever-obliging crabs). From here is access to the marsh or up to the village. Blakeney is a bird-watcher’s paradise; the coastal path runs in front of the house, there are seals at Blakeney Point, and it is surrounded by beautiful countryside walks. The historic little town of Holt is close by and offers a range of shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés and weekly markets. Within a few minutes’ drive is Holt Lowes, an area renowned for wildlife, designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. Also worth a visit is Holt Country Park with its wealth of bird life, as well as other RSPB reserves. The region has several stately homes such as NT Blickling and Felbrigg Halls, Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall. Other interesting days out include visits to Sheringham Park, and Walsingham Shrine and Priory ruins. Sheringham offers golf and is home to the North Norfolk Steam Railway, Splash aqua pool, a promenade and a pier. Within easy driving distance is Norwich with its excellent shopping, restaurants, cathedral, theatre, pubs, cinema and markets. Wells-next-the-Sea is 5 miles and Holkham’s vast sandy beach is just 8 miles. Windsurfing, dinghy launching, sailing and boat trips are all available locally. Shops 100 yards.

This wonderful period detached cottage stands alone surrounded by its own large 3½-acre lawned garden and woodland, and boasts a tennis court and a games room in a separate annexe, with a full size snooker table (for adult use only), sauna, table tennis and football goals which can be set up in the garden. Guests should bring their own equipment for tennis and table tennis. Tucked away at the end of an unmade lane completely surrounded by woodland and countryside, the cottage’s location is perfect for nature lovers. It is also ideally located for exploring the North Norfolk coast and countryside. The area is famous for its natural sandy beaches, numerous National Trust properties, stately homes, RSPB birdwatching spots and outstanding nature reserves.

The living room has a traditional open fire, comfy chairs and a snug leading off. During the winter months, guests can enjoy nights by the fire or the baby grand piano! There is a large dining room with a woodburner and is ideal for enjoying family meals. The kitchen with pine table at one end caters for larger families and groups. There is also a shower room with toilet. A staircase leads off the dining room to five bedrooms and a family bathroom. One of the double bedrooms has en-suite facilities, and all rooms offer beautiful views across the fields and the cottage garden.

The cottage benefits from a lovely large garden and large seating terrace with well (grid placed in well for safety), and there is ample parking on the drive for many cars. The cottage is in a good location for exploring and is only a short drive from the quaint coastal town of Blakeney and close to Wells-next-the-Sea with its outstanding sandy beach. There are miles of heritage coastline, with creeks, marshes, cliffs, beaches and dunes to explore. Discover Holkham and Blakeney National Nature Reserves, including the renowned Blakeney Point, which are both ideal for bird and seal watching. Visit Cley Marshes, Titchwell Marsh and Snettisham Nature Reserves, and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, which is only a 15-minute drive from the cottage. There are plenty of historical places to visit, with Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall, Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall all within easy reach. The Norfolk Coastal Path stretches for miles and there are many delightful cycle rides, including Peddars Way, which passes to the west of the cottage through Harpley, Docking and Sedgeford to Hunstanton, where it joins the Norfolk Coastal Path. The Poppy Line Steam Railway and Norfolk Broads are within easy reach. The renowned village of Holt is only 6 miles away with its cafés, boutiques, galleries and antique shops. Wells-next-the-Sea is popular with tourists and locals alike and offers a mix of traditional seaside and artisan shops and cafés, amusements and a narrow gauge railway that runs virtually from Pirates Lookout and takes you past the pitch and putt golf course down to the pine woods and beach, voted one of the best in the country. The much photographed quay is also a staging post for boat trips including fishing expeditions, booking boat trips to see the seals and is famous for its ‘gillying’ catching small crabs by hand line from the quay wall. Wells also has its own 9-hole pitch just 300 yards away and the two Links cliff top gorgeous golf courses, the Sharingham Golf Club and the Royal Cromer Golf Club. Horse riding is also available at the North Norfolk Riding School just 5 miles from the cottage, as well as various schools and stables along the coast.
The harbour is also the home of Wells Sailing club, Water Ski Club and other water sports and visiting yachtsmen from far and near. Wells offers something for all the family, including the 19th century ‘Albatross’ Dutch sailing barge on the quay, now used as a restaurant and bar with live eclectic music on Fridays, Saturday and most Sunday lunch times. A large well-appointed children’s playground and adjoining skate park, the cinema and theatre on Staithe Street and the myriad of boutique, craft and traditional shops, as well as the ever popular with children amusement arcades for rainy days. Why not try the local horse and cart rides or alpaca trekking along the fields and marshes? An experience the whole family will enjoy.
For all the fun of the fair, head to Hunstanton but making sure you take the time to explore the pretty seaside villages along the way. Bacton Woods is the perfect place to enjoy a picnic and it has great walking trails. There is a good children’s playground within 5 minutes walking distance, also offering additional free parking for the property. The traditional seaside resorts of Cromer, 11 miles, and Sheringham, 15 miles, for fun at the seaside, or Wroxham, 13 miles, known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads National Park, where you can hire a day launch or join a cruise and watch the world drift by.
Perfect for families is BeWILDerwood at Horning, an outdoor adventure park. Another firm favourite is the Dinosaur Park at Lenwade, offering both outside and inside fun, including a splash park for warmer days. Avid gardeners can make a visit to The Old Vicarage Gardens at East Runton to enjoy the extensive gardens, its tearoom with tasty cakes, and the Sheringham National Trust Park. Other National Trust properties including Felbrigg and Blickling Halls, ideal for lovers of history. The Royal Cromer and Mundesley golf courses will not disappoint golfing enthusiasts.
Why not enjoy the chance to spot hundreds of grey seals and pups along the shore at Horsey beach, between December and February.
