Whilst the house is only occasionally snowed in, particularly between December and February, it is best suited to people who enjoy being in remote countryside. The surrounding fields and heather moorland are home to an abundance of wildlife, including lapwing, curlew and red grouse. Ideal for walking, bird watching, active holidays with family, friends, or to celebrate a special occasion. The moors, footpaths and bridleways are on your doorstep, and Kildale’s small train station is on the glorious Esk Valley line to the ancient seaport of Whitby, passing through Goathland, Heartbeat’s village; you can even enjoy the leisurely journey by steam. Visit the Georgian market town of Stokesley where the partly cobbled streets are lined with inns, tea rooms and a mix of shops. Explore the heritage coast and sandy beaches of Yorkshire with seaside towns such as Saltburn, Whitby and Scarborough within easy reach, and fishing villages including Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay. Historic homes, abbeys and castles abound in this area with Newby Hall and Gardens, Castle Howard, the castle ruins in Helmsley and Rievaulx Abbey in the vicinity. Set in a stunning rural position within the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Fell Cottage is a traditional limestone conversion of a former farm building restored to provide a wonderful quaint holiday retreat. The cottage is situated in beautiful Raydale, a rural and unspoilt area of Wensleydale. It is surrounded by traditional farming country and ringed by high fells.
In the distance the dramatic peak of Addleborough can be seen and Lake Semerwater is a pleasant walk away. It is handy for many of the areas famous attractions, including the bustling little market town of Hawes and the pretty villages of Bainbridge and Askrigg, with its pub which was used as the local in the James Herriot series ’All Creatures Great and Small’.
Raydale is a haven for wildlife, with hares and deer often sighted in the surrounding fields at dawn and dusk, along with a wide variety of upland bird life including pheasant, partridge, curlew, duck and of course, Lake Semerwater stocked with a variety of fish. The hamlet of Marsett is set high in the hills above Bainbridge, providing far reaching panoramic views of the dales and fells beyond. It is ideal for a couple or small family to enjoy an active holiday, and is also perfect to just relax and enjoy the stunning scenery. This pretty cottage is the perfect place to return to and relax after a day exploring the local area.
The interior is full of character and even features wooden panelling in the open plan living area where you can relax in front of the TV in one of the deep comfortable armchairs or settee. The country style kitchen offers a full range of culinary amenities and a cosy seating area with more than enough seating for three. From here a door leads out to a small patio area. Make your way to the first floor and you will find a double and single bedroom. Both of which are decorated in neutral tones and provide high end soft furnishings.
