Dog Friendly Lodges North Yorkshire

Set in a small hamlet, these carefully converted holiday cottages form a courtyard development where every care has been taken with the design, internal furnishings and their impact on the environment. Bell’s Barn (prop ref 25899) stands detached from the other cottages and is suitable for wheelchair users. There is also enclosed paddock where your dogs can run free! Just a short walk from Crakehall, claimed to be one of the prettiest villages in the Dales, with a large village green overlooked by an imposing manor house where cricket and quoits teams often play. Nearby, the historic town of Bedale, 2½ miles, offers a weekly market every Tuesday and various events during the year, together with a range of individual shops, restaurants and pubs. Masham, renowned for the Black Sheep Brewery, is 10 minutes’ drive and Richmond with its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre is also easily accessible. Historic York and its many attractions is within easy driving distance. Alternatively, just enjoy the wonderful Yorkshire countryside either by car, bicycle or on foot. Shop and pub ¾ mile. Nestling in the hamlet of Speeton just a few miles from the seaside town of Filey, yet bordering open countryside, this stunning chapel conversion retains many original features such as beautiful stained glass windows, high solid wood ceilings, wall panelling and solid wood floors. Spectacular cliff top walks afford breathaking views of the rugged yet beautiful East Yorkshire coastline. Scarborough and Bridlington are nearby, and the RSPB Bird Sanctuary with kittiwakes, guillemots, puffins and gannets, just 3 miles. York, just under an hour away by car, is worth a visit. Here guests can walk the city walls, visit the railway museum, the minster and shambles with its designer boutique shops. For those who enjoy the countryside, the North York Moors and Wolds are not too far away. The Cleveland Way and Wolds Way walks are a few minutes away. The Old Chapel is a fantastic base to see Yorkshire at its best. Shops 4 miles.

Situated at Staithes, near Whitby, these former World War I army bunkers are in an idyllic position close to the countryside and sea. Four of the barracks have been ingeniously and tastefully transformed to provide good quality accommodation retaining much rustic character and charm. The remaining four lodges retain their near original condition as a visual reminder of their former function. Each refurbished lodge has the added advantage of free parking, an outdoor sitting area and bike parking racks.
Situated just off the Cleveland Way, there are many fine moorland and cliff top walks. There is a golf course and driving range in Brotton, 6¾ miles away, and at Scaling Reservoir, 7¼ miles, there is sailing and fishing. There is a leisure centre 2 miles down the road and a 2-minute stroll down the cobbled street brings you to the centre of the picturesque fishing village with its small harbour nestling beneath rugged cliffs. Step back in time and walk the quaint narrow passages, as Captain James Cook himself must have done. Here in Staithes there are village shops, pubs, cafés and a restaurant, and in 2020 the village was featured on the BBC programme ’Gone Christmas Fishing’ with Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. Why not travel on Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Express (the North Yorkshire Moors Railway) through ’Heartbeat’ country, or visit Whitby and its famous abbey which is 11 miles away.

Surrounded by 10 acres of meadowland in the grounds of Ovington Grange, this charming detached cottage offers superb accommodation, and there is stabling and equestrian facilities for riders and carriage drivers by arrangement with the owner. This single-storey accommodation has level access throughout with wide doorways meaning it is easily accessible and will appeal to all ages. It has a spacious open-plan kitchen/dining room with gloss units and a full range of appliances, including a coffee machine, dishwasher and TV to cater for your every need. The living room is spacious with comfortable sofas set around an electric wood burner. Two patio doors open out onto the enclosed south-facing patio... a perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee taking in the views beyond.

The accommodation extends to two large bedrooms. The first has a kingsize bed and quality bedding - promising a good night’s sleep! It also has an en-suite bathroom with corner shower. Bedroom two offers two single beds which can zip and link to make a super kingsize bed on request, as well as windows at both aspects of the room bringing in the surrounding views. Bedroom two has a TV for your entertainment. A separate bathroom is provided with bath with overhead electric shower.

To the side of the cottage is a lovely enclosed courtyard garden with furniture, ideal for al fresco dining with a glass of wine in the evening. There is the added benefit of a private driveway and space for two cars, with extended parking available on request. Being animal lovers, the owners, who live on-site, are happy to accept up to two well behaved dogs. There is also stabling available on site by private arrangement.

A short walk from the cottage, brings you to the charming hamlet of Ovington and a lovely traditional pub serving home-cooked food and local ales. With so many opportunities to explore whether by car or on foot, the stunning North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales National Park are both within easy reach. A short drive away is the market town of Barnard Castle with its bustling high street full of quaint shops, pubs and cafés, as well as the impressive Bowes Museum. Alternatively, the historic Yorkshire market town of Richmond is great for strolling along the cobbled streets and castle walls. A visit to the beautiful city of York is not to be missed with stunning architecture as well as the incredible York Minster dominating the skyline. Shop 4 miles, pub ¾ miles and restaurant 1¾ miles.

Rose Cottage is a superb single-storey property. Sleeping four guests, it is dog friendly and has excellent accessible facilities including ramp access and a large wet room with a double shower. It also boasts a four-seater hot tub on the decking. The bright and airy open plan living area with vaulted ceiling, and state-of-the-art kitchen will be the heart of this holiday home. It provides a mixture of twin and kingsize accommodation, a built-in sound system, electric Velux windows and every mod con you could wish for and really does deliver when it comes to guest comfort.
Strensall is located on the River Foss with a wide range of facilities including three pubs, a choice of grocery shops, post office, takeaway and a fish and chip shop. On the doorstep is York Golf Club and Strensall Common, a huge conservation area maintained by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and which is popular with birdwatchers.
Regular buses run from the village to the centre of the ancient walled city of York, 7 miles away. Steeped in history and brimming with attractions, York appeals to all ages. Visit the magnificent minster, the Jorvik Viking Centre and the Railway Museum, browse the art galleries and stroll along the cobbled streets and city walls. There are numerous restaurants, tea shops and an abundance of inns serving real ale. Enjoy a day at the races, take a river boat trip or watch the talented street entertainers.
The surrounding area has much to offer too, with stately homes at Castle Howard and Beningbrough Hall, quaint market towns at Easingwold and Helmsley, and a short drive leads to the beautiful North York Moors where the famous steam train departs from Pickering and transports visitors through stunning scenery to the fishing port of Whitby.

Nestled on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, this beautifully refurbished barn conversion is situated in the tranquil village of Salton, just outside the picturesque market town of Kirkbymoorside. Steeped with history, the parish of Salton covers about 2,760 acres, with the River Dove running through Salton and past Lockwood Barn. The Norman Church is a Grade 1 Listed Building and is said to be one of the most complete Norman Churches in Yorkshire. The centre green of the village is lined with brick cottages. Lockwood Barn is ideally located for cyclists and walkers, and for the perfect peaceful get away there is a private enclosed garden ideal to sit out and relax in the summer months and take in the idyllic surroundings.
The historic market towns of Kirbymoorside, Helmsley, Pickering & Malton are easily reached, for all local amenities including independent cafes, shops, pubs and restaurants. Places of interest including Nunnington Hall, the museum of rural life at Hutton-Le-Hole and Castle Howard are all easily reached from Lockwood Barn. Travel across the Moors to Whitby and along the coastal route to Scarborough for a family day out along the breath-taking east coast, nothing beats a day at the beach. You can also explore the stunning North York Moors National Park which is full of bike trails and fantastic, scenic walks. Alternatively, the fantastic theme park Flamingo Land is just a 13-minute drive from the barn, a perfect place for a family day out. For cyclists Lockwood Barn is ideally situated close to the ‘Moor to sea Cycle Network’ which connects Scarborough, Whitby, Dalby Forest, Pickering, and Great Ayton in a stunning series of moorland, forest & coastal loops.
Lockwood Barn sleeps four people and has been converted from a former workshop to a beautiful two-bedroom open plan property with mezzanine floor and comfortable seating. It has been refurbished to a good standard to also include wheelchair access.

The door opens to a spacious hall which offers access to all the rooms on this accessible single storey dwelling. The first room you come to is the twin bedroom which has plenty of space for wheelchair access. The bathroom is large with an accessible shower, and also offers a Japanese bathing tub for soaking away the aches and pains from a day’s walking or sightseeing. The kitchen is well equipped, and all amenities are wheelchair accessible. This is the perfect social space whether you are sat around the table enjoying a meal or sat around the wood burner telling stories of the day’s events.

The property is set amongst spectacular scenery and has several attractions within a few minutes’ drive, why not visit Ingleton which offers the Waterfalls Trail, a 4½-mile trail via a series of spectacular waterfalls, through ancient woodland and beautiful Yorkshire Dales scenery, or the stunning White Scar Caves, spanning 1 mile, the longest show cave in Britain. There are plenty of walks and cycle routes nearby as you have the Yorkshire Dales at your feet, or if you prefer retail therapy, there is a good selection of independent shops and unique stores. Whether you are looking for family fun or an adventure with friends, there is sure to be something for everyone.

This detached holiday cottage with log burner (recently built n 2022) is ideally placed to explore the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District and is perfectly placed for walkers with the Three Peaks of Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-ghent on our doorstep. or a day exploring the Devonshire Estate or visiting Grassington or Hawes.

Crooklands Cottage is a short distance from Austwick, one of the prettiest villages in the Dales, with a church, post office and convenience store, and a pub and hotel, both serving great food. Situated midway between Settle and Ingleton and a short distance to Clapham, you’ll come to the historic village of Kirkby Lonsdale about 10 miles down the road and Skipton is only less than 20 miles in the other direction.
