They are very much geared for family groups and celebratory gatherings. Surrounded by the owners’ farmland, with footpaths, bridleways and cycle routes from the doorstep, these properties are the perfect country retreat. Another popular pastime in the area is fishing, which is available for guests of the cottages on Chelmarsh Reservoir and also on the River Severn (day permits can be purchased from local fishing tackle shops). Ideally located near to the historic town of Bridgnorth and the Severn Valley railway, with RAF Cosford a short drive away, the cottages make an ideal base for touring. The Ironbridge Gorge Museum and the hills of the Long Mynd and Wenlock Edge are about 10 miles away, whilst there are many interesting walks from the door as well as numerous picturesque villages waiting to be explored. This spacious, timber framed farmhouse is located within picturesque grounds including a sun trapped walled garden, fruit trees and brick apple store. Dating from the 17th century and Grade I listed, it was remodelled by John Nash, the famous Regency architect, to match the adjoining property (also National Trust and open six days a year). Cronkhill Farmhouse retains many period details, including beamed ceilings, quarry-tiled floors and an open fireplace. Providing spacious living accommodation, a well-equipped farmhouse-style kitchen and a large dining and entertaining space, it can sleep up to fourteen guests. The property is especially popular with families and groups of friends.
Its idyllic situation combines a very convenient location, close to the bustling town of Shrewsbury and the prettiest villages of Shropshire. A local post office, shop and country pub are all within ½ mile of Cronkhill. The National Trust’s Attingham Park is just 1 mile away, at the centre of which is a fine Regency mansion set within a deer park designed by Humphrey Repton. There is extensive year round walking to be enjoyed here.
This is an excellent central base from which to explore Shropshire. Shrewsbury lies 3 miles to the north, with its fine period architecture, cinemas, restaurants, and excellent shopping; to the south are the spectacular Shropshire Hills. In its medieval castle setting, Ludlow provides a food paradise with restaurants and artisan shops galore. Eight miles to the east is the World Heritage site of Ironbridge Gorge and its many museums. Three ruined abbeys and the remains of the ancient Roman city of Wroxeter are all within a 20-minute drive.

Just northwest of historic Shrewsbury and close to the Welsh borders, Field House stands in an ideal position for exploring and sightseeing within this lovely region. England’s largest inland county, Shropshire remains one of the country’s least populated and unspoilt landscapes, where bustling ancient market towns lie encompassed by acres of countryside. This is an area immersed in history, with the Domesday Book association, noteworthy castles which include the English Heritage castle at Moreton Corbet, the hilltop remains at Montgomery and Clun to the south, and of course, the splendid sandstone fortifications which dominate the centre of Shrewsbury.
Whether you crave activity, history, culture or shopping, nearby towns have plenty to offer all tastes and ages. Oswestry boasts the legendary King Oswald’s Well - said to have curative powers, Wroxeter the fourth largest city in Roman Britain is only 5 miles outside of Shrewsbury on the way to the historic Ironbridge Gorge and Blists Hill Victorian Town. The RAF Museum at Cosford, Attingham Park (National Trust), Hawkstone Historic Park and Follies, a 10-mile ride on the Llangollen railway through the stunning Dee Valley, or 18 holes of golf at Oswestry Golf Course - all are within easy reach of Field House.
