Located within the South Downs National Park, in the pretty village of Singleton, The Old Surgery is a self-contained, two bedroom holiday cottage able to facilitate up to four guests. The property forms a small part of Corner Cottage, one of Singleton’s most iconic and historic houses. Dating back to 1731, the whole property has undergone a full restoration. This beautiful listed building has been entirely re-built by local craftsmen and retains many of its original features while encasing state-of-the-art contemporary living.

The wing of the main house was once known by the community as the village surgery. As a nod to its history, it is now called The Old Surgery and has its own separate entrance and French windows that flow onto a bespoke patio, surrounded by the larger walled garden that surrounds the entire house. The owners live in the main house alongside running part of the property as a B&B. The Old Surgery also features a few fun furnishings relating to its medical past. You will find decorative old medicine bottles beautifully displayed behind glass casings in the ground floor bedroom walls, and a vintage medical wall mount which doctors used to put their X-rays on, doubling up as a quirky wall light in the hallway.

The cottage living room has a large wall mounted Smart TV in front of the Swedish style sofa, so that you can snuggle down in front of the wood burner and relax at the end of a long day out exploring West Sussex. The kitchen is open plan with the living room and dining area, and is equipped with everything you will need to self-cater during your stay, when you’re not dining out at one of the local pubs. The cottage has two bedrooms, a ground floor twin bedroom, with zip and link beds so you can have a super kingsize if you prefer, whilst a spacious bedroom occupies the first floor with a double bed at one end and a single day bed at the other for flexible sleeping arrangements. The beautiful bathroom on the ground floor with its highly individual decorative tiles has a small, yet very deep bath which is a sit-down Japanese design. There is also a separate state of the art power shower.

There is a superb choice of activities and places to visit in West Sussex. The village of Singleton is only a short distance from the historic cathedral city of Chichester, and a few minutes’ away from the Goodwood Estate famed for its motor racing, golfing and horse racing. The renowned Cowdray House and Polo Club are also nearby, as well as Petworth House, Arundel Castle, Fishbourne Roman Palace, and Weald and Downland Museums are also nearby. You can spend the day immersing yourself in the best of the counties cultural offerings. Beach 12½ miles. Shop 1½ miles, pub and restaurant 175 yards.

The terraced property is located on the outskirts of Bognor Regis and the local area has plenty to offer to make your stay memorable. Bognor Regis is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the south coast of England, boasting lovely beaches, fun at Hotham Park, great family activities at the Butlin’s resort and much, much more. The South Downs National Park is also nearby for scenic walks, or there are plenty of attractions within easy reach, including many National Trust properties.
A little further afield you could take a trip to Chichester, where you can visit the town’s 12th-century cathedral and admire an area that is steeped in history. Check out Arundel with its historic castle and Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, which is situated only 10 miles away and provides a good day out. The Goodwood Estate is well worth a visit and is situated just a short drive away, where you can enjoy an event at the racecourse, or simply just walk round and admire the beautiful estate. Also worth a visit is Fontwell Park Racecourse, which is only 8 miles away. You can jump on the train at Bognor Regis station and travel east towards Brighton, which is known for its cosmopolitan feel and has the Royal Pavilion, art galleries, theatres, extensive shopping, marina and other facilities. Alternatively head west to Portsmouth and its historic dockyard, and admire the Spinnaker Tower, historic ships or waterside dining. For an excellent day trip, take a ferry across the Solent to the Isle of Wight. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

Tucked away at the end of a farm road surrounded by stunning Sussex countryside is the beautifully converted, detached, old dairy called Woodlands Dairy Cottage. Originally part of a working dairy farm within 86 acres, now with sheep and beef cattle. Lambing in springtime is not to be missed. Footpaths and great country walks emanate from the doorstep so pull on your wellies and start exploring! All the accommodation is on one floor and the cottage is wheelchair friendly. Storage is available for bicycles to explore the many bridleways which run through woodlands and open country.
The area is steeped in history as Stane Street, now known as the A29, was built by the Romans. Woodlands Dairy Cottage is ideally placed for great days out visiting the South Downs National Park, the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Fishers Farm Adventure Park, Arundel Castle and Gardens, Arundel Cathedral and the magnificent 900-year-old Chichester Cathedral. Brighton is 45 minutes’ drive with its vibrant marina, historic shopping Lanes and the Regency Royal Pavilion built by King George IV. You can take a boat trip along the restored section of the Wey and Arun Canal or along the River Arun from Arundel. West Sussex is famed for its many vineyards which can be visited.
Petworth House houses great collections and its deer park was designed by Grinling Gibbons. Cowdray is the home of British polo and the coveted Gold Cup which draws teams of the best players from all over the world. Goodwood, with its magnificent house, is also the home to the summer Glorious Goodwood horse race meeting as well as the hugely popular Festival of Speed and Revival for Motor Racing attracting motor enthusiasts from across the globe.
The RSPB’s Pulborough Wetlands are a must for bird fanciers. There are numerous beaches within 16 miles, good pubs and restaurants close by together with prime food shops selling local produce and two supermarkets within a 4-mile drive. There are plenty of golf courses, fishing is available locally, as well as many spectacular gardens to visit. Theatres at Chichester, Brighton and Guildford often have pre-West End shows. The property is just 40 minutes from Gatwick airport. Beach 16 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Situated in the heart of Sussex, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Horncombe Stables is set within the 50 acres of Horncombe, a 14th-century hunting lodge. This first floor apartment is set at the end of a long drive overlooking fields and woodland that are a haven for wildlife, including herds of deer. There are footpaths leading from the doorstep which lead you through the owners 50 acres of woodland, and across the stream and the enclosed garden has a lovely summer house and is dog-friendly. In a peaceful rural area, on the outskirts of Ardingly in mid Sussex, the property is conveniently located for attending events taking place at the South of England Showground, including the international antiques and collectors fair. There is also clay pigeon shooting and horse riding, which can be arranged locally.
Wakehurst Place, ’Kew in the Country’ is close by and home to the Millennium Seed Bank, the largest wild plant seed bank in the world. Birdwatchers, fishermen, nature lovers and those who enjoy water sports will love Ardingly Reservoir and designated a nature reserve. Take a step back in time and hop aboard the steam train at the Bluebell Railway, which travels 11 miles along the border between east and west Sussex. Ashdown Forest is close by, home of Winnie the Pooh, The Hundred Acre Wood and Pooh Bridge. Gatwick is also nearby, with easy access to London via the Gatwick Express. Beach 23 miles. This delightful detached barn conversion enjoys a peaceful location overlooking fields and paddocks and has its own hot tub! The owners ensure guests comfort and have added many extras and homely touches. The first floor bedrooms have sloping ceilings and there is plenty of wardrobe space with additional storage on the landing.

There is so much to do in the area. Only 15 minutes’ drive away is historic Arundel with its magnificent castle, antique and book shops, eateries, cathedral, open air pool, wild fowl and wetlands. Slightly further is Chichester with Festival Theatre, boat tours, extensive shopping, Goodwood (Glorious Goodwood, Festival of Speed and Revival for motor racing) and Fontwell for a day at the races. Other race courses within easy reach include Brighton and Lingfield. Beaches within a 30 minute-drive include West Wittering, Worthing and the ever popular cosmopolitan city of Brighton, with its pier, Regency Royal Pavilion, theatres and art galleries.

There are many stately homes and gardens to discover too, some of which are National Trust, including Petworth House, Goodwood House and Gardens, Nymans, Glyndebourne, Sheffield Park and Borde Hill. Also within easy driving distance is Cowdray for polo. For bird lovers and wildlife, visit nearby RSPB Pulborough. There are various golf clubs all within easy reach, and horse riding too. This is perfect walker’s and dog walker’s territory and the cottage allows 1 small dog only. The beautiful Shimmings Valley is a stone’s throw from the cottage and with Petworth House and Deer Park just across the road, it is a walker’s paradise. Ideal cottage for families however people with mobility issue may find the cottage a challenge as it is spread over three floors.

With a short walk into Petworth, the cottage is ideally situated to access the local restaurants, bars and coffee shops. Petworth town centre is just a mere 5-minute walk away with its fair share of coffee shops, restaurants, pubs, lots of art galleries, antique and boutique shops. Over the road is Petworth House and Deer Park, a 17th-century stately home now owned by the National Trust, and contains the finest art collection. It also has a beautiful deer park for wonderful country walks and a great coffee shop. The cottage is just 10 minutes’ drive from Cowdray (the Home of Polo) with a farm and coffee shop. The Weald and Downland Living Museum (location of the TV show ’The Repair Shop’) is 20 minutes drive away and is also dog friendly. Arundel with its fairytale castle, is 20 minutes’ drive and well worth a visit.

Downsview Park is ideally situated just over a mile south of the beautiful town of Arundel. Individual shops, stunning architecture, imposing castle and riverside location make this a must spend day or two during your holiday. The WWT Wetland Centre, Swanbourne Lake and South Downs National Park with its pretty villages and fabulous hiking opportunities are all within 5 minutes. Numerous stately homes and gardens are dotted around the area. Goodwood with its world famous motor circuit and horse racing venue is a 20 minute easy drive. The pretty grass runway airport here offers the chance to take an airborne sightseeing experience offering memorable views of the coastline including Portsmouth Dockyards, Gunwharf Quays and the Spinnaker Tower that by road are a 40 minute drive. Lunch or tea airside in this stunning location is also possible. Dogs are welcomed everywhere at Goodwood. Two championship golf courses are on the estate and spa experiences available at the hotel. Tours and afternoon tea are available also here at the stately home. Chichester with its cathedral and Festival Theatre are a short drive, Brighton being 18 miles distant. Dog friendly beaches abound with quite a collection very nearby, a favourite being West Beach at Climping where there is the lovely Baliffscourt for a special dining treat.

Set off the beautiful Lombard Street, an historic cobbled street in the heart of Petworth’s old town centre, Westwood dates back to the 17th Century and epitomises the abundance of character found in this genteel corner of Sussex.

A gate from the street leads along an ancient passageway to the rear courtyard, and entrance into Westwood’s newly fitted kitchen. The kitchen contains a wide range of appliances including a coffee machine. Heading upstairs, the intimate dining area offers a church pew bench and beckons you in with deep purple tones. Next to the dining area is the kingsize bedroom, and to the other side the family bathroom. With a vaulted ceiling, the cosy living room is resplendent in rich red décor, exposed beams and brickwork, and offers a Chesterfield sofa, loveseat and Smart TV.

From the sitting room an unassuming, tiny door reveals a fabulous snug room. With two armchairs and a bar-style desk looking down over the cobbled street below, it is the perfect spot to inspire a Dickensian novel. The snug also leads into bedroom two, a large twin looking out over the ancient rooves of Petworth. Outside there is a small, sunny courtyard accessed from the kitchen, fully enclosed for the kids and pooch and offering a bistro table, bench seat and charcoal BBQ.

It is best known as the location of the stately home Petworth House and its deer park landscaped by Capability Brown. The House contains an internationally renowned art collection with numerous works by Turner and is just a couple of minutes’ walk from Westwood. The entrance to the park is less than a mile away, giving easy access for a brisk walk with the dog in the early morning mist. There is also extensive walking across the Shimmings Valley. To the east, the market town of Midhurst nestles next to Cowdray Park, famous for its polo club and the Gold Cup.

Ten miles south, the famous Goodwood Estate offers a golf course, the motor circuit, racecourse and aerodrome, with particular mention of course to the Festival of Speed, the Goodwood Revival and Glorious Goodwood. Its broad streets are packed with listed buildings, headed by the towering presence of the cathedral and all neatly enclosed within the ancient city walls. There is an excellent range of independent and high street shops, pubs and restaurants, and the Chichester Festival Theatre offers a variety of first-class productions. Also nearby, Arundel is another historic market town dominated by its symbolic castle and the rising spire of the cathedral. It offers a plethora of craft and antique shops, as well as restaurants and tearooms. The Sussex coast and its beaches are within a 30-minute drive.
