Westgate Cottage is a charming 17th-century stone built holiday cottage located in the picturesque village of St Lawrence, at the southernmost tip of the island. There is a designated cycle route close by, and many scenic walking routes too, including the Dinosaur Trail, Tennyson Trail and Treasure Trail. There is a choice of challenging off-road bridleways, peaceful byways and level, purpose-made tracks running along former railway lines. You can even take on the full 66-mile ‘Round the Island Route’, as used for the annual Isle of Wight Randonnee.
Close by Colwell Bay offers spectacular views across the Solent to mainland England, with clear, calm waters and gently sloping sand and shingle, an ideal beach for swimming. Or follow the coastline and enjoy a stroll along to Totland Bay, where you can find a bar, restaurant and a café to try the exquisite seafood and experience some of the finest sunsets. The coastal path takes you to the public lift in Shanklin where you can find cafés, ice cream shops, crazy golf and amusement arcades.

The position of Captain’s Cottage couldn’t be better, it is right in the heart of this beautiful seaside resort, with shops, bars, and restaurants on your doorstep. It’s only a 10-minute stroll to the wonderful sandy beaches too. Shanklin is one of the most popular seaside resorts on the island, home to the Old Village and Shanklin Chine. The seafront is packed with amusements, activities, and crazy golf courses. Within a moment’s walk of Captain’s Cottage is the bus station, which has great links to anywhere on the island and there is also an open-top bus in the summer season, great for sight seeing. At the end of the road, there is also a train station, which stops at several coastal towns. Osborne House was once Queen Victoria’s favourite residence and is open to the public and well worth a visit, as are Carisbrook Castle, The Needles rock formations, Robin Hill park with acres of parkland, natural woodland, countryside gardens, adventures, and special events, Ventnor Botanical Gardens and Shanklin Chine, a deep wooded gorge with streams and waterfalls.
The model village at Godshill is also not to be missed as this gives a good overview of the island and its attractions, all in miniature of course. Start your holiday as soon as you hop onto one of the many ferry options, whether you whiz over on the Hovercraft or one of the car ferry links.

The house is a beautiful 1820 building and the conversion is tasteful and contemporary whilst retaining the original features and was fully renovated May 2019. Exposed beams, high ceilings and large windows with panoramic views offer period elegance with every modern comfort catered for. The rooms are set over three floors, starting with an impressive wide entrance hall with plenty of space and storage available. A utility room and downstairs toilet are also provided for your convenience. The vast show stopping kitchen (custom designed by Tom Howley of Surrey), living room and dining area is the perfect place to spend quality time together. The dining table seating ten or more guests is bordered with windows overlooking the lush green gardens and the garden itself is accessed via patio doors. The patio holds a beautiful outdoor sofa, the perfect place to relax your afternoons and evenings away. There is a gas barbecue to provide culinary delights for your friends and family all within the same setting, so the chef is never far from the party!
The Farmhouse is a perfect base to relax, unwind in and explore this unique corner of Britain. With many attractions, countryside and seaside resorts, there is definitely something for everyone. If you want to stay local, the beautiful Brook Bay is a 2-minute drive away and the sunsets on this side of the island are a must see, just stunning.
