For days out, visit the coast for miles of sandy beaches or head inland, 28 miles to the city of Lincoln, with its spectacular cathedral, castle, popular Bailgate area for shopping, restaurants and bars. Or head down Steep Hill to the Brayford Waterside where you can watch the boats cruise by. After a day exploring you can cosy up in front of the wood burner or relax on the large terrace and enjoy the peace and quiet, with very little light pollution its great for the star gazers among you. Attractions in the area include, Cadwell park race track, Market Rasen Horse racing, Woodhall Spa gold as well as home of the dam busters, Horncastle, antique centre of Lincolnshire and Spilsby Sir John Franklins birth place. Sommersby Tennysons birth place, Coningsby home of the Battle of Briton flight and the Euro fighter. Best of all the Lincolnshire wolds, go out the gate, turn right and you dont have to see a main road let alone cross one.

Set in the peaceful village of North Somercotes on the Lincolnshire coast between Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes, this detached bungalow, situated close to the owner’s home, offers an ideal location for a relaxing holiday or a comfortable base from which to explore the area. North Somercotes is one of the larger villages in the area and has several shops, takeaways, 2 pubs, a licensed restaurant, hairdressers and beauty facilities. North Somercotes is 15 miles south of Cleethorpes, a popular holiday resort including the theme park Pleasure Island, the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway and other attractions. The village is only 8 miles from the Georgian town of Louth which still boasts 3 markets a week, with the very impressive St James Church, Hubbards Hills picnic area and beauty spot, as well as a cinema, leisure centre and many excellent restaurants and pubs. Mablethorpe, 11 miles, is only a short drive away and has sandy beaches along with all your normal seaside attractions including a fun fair and amusements. Grimsby has a Fishing Heritage Centre, as well as very good shopping facilities. Donna Nook Seal Sanctuary is within 2 miles and from late October to late December seals congregate to have their pups here (1798 pups in 2014). Seals are very close to the public viewing areas, making Donna Nook one of the most accessible sites for seeing seals breeding in the UK. It attracts 40,000 visitors a year. Good walks and cycle routes are straight from the door with fishing and golf courses all within a short drive. Tucked away on a quiet country lane this spacious, detached bungalow offers a tranquil retreat complete with a private hot tub to relax in after a day exploring the area. Whether it’s a trip to the traditional seaside resort of Skegness with its sandy beaches and Gibraltar Point Nature reserve, or a day out in Lincoln famous, for its cathedral, castle and the Magna Carta Visitor Centre, there is something for everyone. Just 2 miles to Burgh le Marsh where you will find a number of restaurants and pubs. The Lincolnshire Wolds offer excellent walks and cycle routes with good country pubs to stop off in and enjoy refreshments, coarse fishing at Bratoft, (licence required), is 2 miles away and there is a good golf course within a short drive. Honeysuckle Cottage is a luxury barn conversion set on the edge of the pretty village of Oasby. It is part of the owner’s grass and arable farm and they have a great interest in wildlife and conservation. All visitors are welcome to access all the farm. It is an ideal base from which to explore the area. Numerous walks and cycle routes are close at hand and a lovely country pub, with fine real ales and delicious food, is only a 5-minute stroll away.

For those wishing to explore further afield, Stamford, Lincoln, Newark and Uppingham offer castles, museums, antique centres and numerous pubs and restaurants. Those interested in WWII can visit the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight at Coningsby, and the newly completed Bomber Command at Lincoln.

There are numerous golf courses nearby including the National Golf centre at Woodhall Spa. Rutland Water offers various water sports throughout the year, and the circular track around the reservoir provides easy walking and cycling for all ages, with bikes available for hire. Oasby is also home to the British Eventing Oasby Horse Trials, which takes place twice a year on the farm, attracting world class riders to the event.

Shops are available 3 miles away, and there are several pubs in the locality offering a range of meals. The owners are happy for visitors to the cottage to bring their horses and/or ponies. We can provide grazing and plenty of maps for horse riding.

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve is within walking distance and is well known for its unspoilt coastline that runs southwards from the edge of Skegness to the mouth of the Wash. The impressive views along with the sheer scale and diversity of wildlife makes it well worth visiting at all times of the year. There is also a visitor centre and café for refreshment.
Skegness is a fantastic traditional seaside resort and has something for all the family to enjoy from its funfair, amusements, aquarium and award winning sandy beaches to its range of restaurants, bars and nightlife. Watching the Banger racing is sure to make for a fun family day out and in the summer you can enjoy a donkey ride along the beach. An 18-hole links golf course is also within a mile.
Alternatively head inland to the rolling Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Natural Beauty, and explore the market towns of Louth, Market Rasen and Horncastle. Enjoy the motor racing at Cadwell Park, the horse racing at Market Rasen or even a day out in the City of Lincoln, famous for its Cathedral and Castle. Enjoying a rural location on the edge of the owners farm there are lovely walks straight from the door with the nearby nature reserve offering many miles of peaceful walks. Beach 1 mile. The Sanctuary is a beautiful barn conversion which offers a comfortable stay in the Medieval hamlet of Burton Pedwardine, which can trace its history back to before the Norman Conquest and is mentioned in The Domesday Book. The characterful property is set on the owners’ sheep sanctuary and has been stylishly decorated and furnished with a unique flourish (the owners are artists), giving a relaxing home-from-home feeling.
The Sanctuary offers a luxury holiday retreat whilst being ideally located to explore all that Lincolnshire has to offer. The locale is steeped in history and the land is the predominant site of the original medieval village complete with an 11 meter deep well, the village pond and the old road running diagonally across. The Sanctuary is built with salvaged materials from outbuildings which once stood adjacent to the main house and on part of the old village green. The owners built a barn-style property with a double-height ceiling and the slate roof was salvaged from the nearby Victorian Schoolhouse.The property is entered directly into the bright and spacious living area. There is a cosy sitting area which boasts a stunning wood burner providing additional heat and charm along with a Smart TV ideal for kicking back and relaxing in comfort. In the same open-plan space, there is a warm dining area which seats six and a coffee/tea station on the way to the well-equipped, well-presented kitchen with plenty of space for food preparation should you not wish to dine at the many eateries close by. On the same floor is a lovely bathroom with a generous shower. Through the bi-fold doors from the living area, there is a gorgeous patio area leading on to the property’s private, enclosed garden, surrounded by stunning views giving you a great place to sit out and relax in the summer months whilst enjoying a glass of fizz, or simply taking in the fresh morning air to the sound of sheep and chickens with your coffee.
There are three good-sized bedrooms one on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The ground floor bedroom has a generous kingsize bed. One of the bedrooms on the first floor has en-suite facilities and another king-size bed. The third bedroom is the largest with a super kingsize zip and link bed, small sitting area, TV and dressing table. The upper bedrooms have air conditioning. All bedrooms have fresh cotton linen, guaranteeing a perfect night’s sleep and guests are provided with soft, quality towels.
Heckington is two miles away with a train station for trips to the East Coast with its many beaches and nature reserves. Heckington has three pubs, an independent brewery within the eight-sailed windmill, a Co-op, greengrocers, takeaways and cafés (there is a WONDERFUL coffee shop on the high street and an award-winning chip shop). Heckington also plays host to the largest village country show in the UK. Situated just six miles away is the town of Sleaford which has plenty of independent shops, restaurants, cafés and pubs.
There is also The Hub, a national centre for art and design and a theatre, plus historical attractions. Within a 40-minute drive are Lincoln, Grantham and Newark with their castles and cathedrals. Just a half hour away is Woodhall Spa which has the headquarters of the National Golf Union, two golf courses and an academy. Locally, there are lovely walks through the surrounding countryside and cycle routes straight from your accommodation with an abundance of wildlife which surrounds the property. Lincolnshire Cycle Trail runs through the village. Cyclists around here are made of serious stuff; however, local roads are largely level and easy for novices. The fantastic Lincolnshire Wolds National Park is also easily accessible with plenty of scenic walks and cycle trails.
