The vibrant city of Newcastle is only 6 miles away; experience some real ‘Geordie’ hospitality whilst soaking in the atmosphere along the popular Grey Street oozing character, with the Theatre Royal and a wonderful selection of bars and restaurants for all ages. The iconic Quayside is a must; take a selfie under the famous Tyne Bridge for a lasting memory.
    The Metro Centre is ideal for shoppers, or whilst ‘your other half’ is off to watch a football match at St James Park (6 miles). Tynemouth and Whitley Bay make a lovely change with a wonderful long flat promenade to stroll along with plenty of bespoke bars and cafés to keep everyone happy.     The Simonside Hills are ideal for the serious walkers, or a gentle stroll along the River Coquet is perfect for those wanting a more relaxing holiday. Rothbury is set along the River Coquet where you can fish for salmon and trout. The golf course is very close should you be a keen golfer. Cragside House (National Trust) is nearby and packed full of quirky inventions with stunning gardens in spring and summer.

    A few miles drive over the moor will take you to Alnwick, with its famous castle and gardens which is open to the public and was used in some Harry Potter and Downton Abbey scene; explore the cobbled streets and cafés stopping off for lunch. Northumberland Heritage Coastline makes for a wonderful day out where you can explore up and down the coastline taking in historic castles and beautiful unspoilt golden beaches. A day trip over to the Northumberland National Park is well worth the effort in any season, and Kielder Water Riverside has plenty of stopping-off picnic areas for the family easily reached from your location in Rothbury. A little further afield is the friendly port of Amble, which boasts some good amenities and a lovely Sunday morning market. If you prefer sleep-ins, fish and chips on the harbour can be just the ticket after exploring the port town.
