This recently renovated family home has been refurbished in 2020 to a very good standard while keeping some of the existing features such as original wooden flooring. The property is set in the sleepy village of Allithwaite, just under 2 miles from Grange-over-Sands. The neighbouring village of Cartmel, with its 12th-century priory and racecourse, is also just under 2 miles away.
Dunmail House is the ideal holiday home for visiting the Lake District National Park, as you are not far from any of the main routes to take you around the Lakes, and Lake Windermere is only 9 miles away. Other nearby places include Holker Hall, Sizergh Castle, Grizedale Forest and the Lakeland Motor Museum. Kendal, Bowness and Windermere are 30 minutes away.
The limestone outcrop of Humphrey Head and its nature reserve, where the last wolf in England was allegedly seen in 1390, is just under 2 miles away. It offers a tranquil circular walk taking in the stunning views and returning through a picturesque wood where wildlife is abundant. Skydiving Northwest is in Flookburgh, 2½ miles away, and Grange-over-Sands offers golfing. Cycle trails such as the Cartmel Cycle Loop are popular. Train links provide services to Kents Bank, Grange-over-Sands, Arnside, Silverdale (for RSPB Leighton Moss), Ulverston, for its market town with cobbled streets and appealing shops, and Lancaster, for its busy, student vibe. There is a village shop ¼ mile away and Grange-over-Sands has a wide range of amenities, along with the promenade and ornamental gardens. Curlew Cottage is ideally located between Allonby and Silloth on the Cumbrian west coast, with exceptional views onto the Irish Sea and further to the Scottish coastline. Surrounded by the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty you have some of the finest sand dunes in the area. This area is also part of a site of specific scientific interest as the neighbouring dunes are home to rare animals like the natterjack toad. The surrounding dune grasslands and beach are also very important for birds like Curlews, Oystercatchers, stonechat and many more for breeding and roosting, making this area perfect for nature and bird watchers alike. If your lucky you could even stumble across the submerged forest, dating back over 8000yrs, it is thought to be pine or oak which has been hidden off the coast by the sea.

The cottage itself is very traditional for the area, with many features to show off. There are 4 good sized bedrooms allowing up to 6 people to use the property for their coastal adventure or even just a get-away holiday. With a good sized garden at the rear and towards the sea you will be able to sit out on an evening and watch the sunsets with the coastline just a minutes walk. There is a covered seating area in the garden. The cottage is set among four other houses and is away from the road giving you peace of mind with both children and dogs.

With only a handful of other properties nearby you will be able to enjoy a peaceful Cumbrian holiday while also being only 30-minutes drive from the Lake District National Park where the dizzying heights of Blencathra, Skiddaw and Grisedale Pike could be your next walking destination, you may even fancy a boat trip on Ullswater, Derwentwater or Bassenthwaite Lake, all within easy reach from Curlew Cottage. Village pub within 1 mile. There is a cycle way passing the property from Maryport to Allonby and part way to Silloth.

This semi-detached cottage is the ideal getaway for anyone looking to visit the Lake District, and the owner includes festive decorations at Christmas. It sits just on the outskirts of Ulverston, making it easy to walk into the centre to enjoy the delights that the town has to offer, and has off-street parking for two cars. The comfortable living room includes a leather three-seater recliner and recliner chair, and a 43" Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime will keep you entertained. Upstairs is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed, which has been newly redecorated in 2021 (hair dryer also provided) and which has an en-suite shower room. There is also a further double bedroom and a single bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe. Outside, the secluded, enclosed garden also has storage for bikes.
Ulverston is a great place from which to explore the South Lakes. The property is a 6-minute walk to the shortest canal in England and is a favourite for fishermen. Walking the canal takes you to Canal Foot and the tidal estuary where you can enjoy a drink overlooking the sea. The coast is a very short drive away at Bardsea where you can enjoy the best ice cream around and walk for miles on the quiet beach.
The town of Ulverston is packed with character from the markets and festivals to the independent shops that make up the high streets. So whether you want the high-end family butcher, the huge selection of freshly ground coffees or unique gifts, Ulverston has it all in walking distance of the property.
There are some fabulous restaurants in the town with high Tripadvisor ratings. If you like Mexican food, there a great restaurant in the town, but be warned, you will need to book weeks in advance!
There is lots to do in the South Lakes whatever the weather or time of year. You will pass the Motor Museum on the way into Ulverston, and the Cumbrian Heavy Horse Centre is only a short drive away, as is the South Lakes Zoo (with pre-booking you can be a zoo-keeper for the day).
The centre of Windermere is half an hour away with all the lake attractions and the Beatrix Potter Trail. Lake Coniston is a quarter of an hour away and the famous Hoad monument is an energetic climb within walking distance of the property. Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

Bell Hill Cottage is a very spacious ground floor apartment set in the lovely village of Lindale. A stone’s throw away from the local village pub makes it great for enjoying an evening drink or dinner and leaving your car at home.
Bell Hill Cottage is a period property boasting large rooms, the spacious double bedroom is up just two small steps and there is a separate dining room, kitchen and living room with a comfy sofa bed. The small utility area takes you to the back door opening onto a private courtyard with garden furniture and there are steps up to a small garden to enjoy.
Lindale is better known as the gateway to the south Lake District. With easily accessible routes from the M6 and A590, you are not far from anywhere. Just 2 miles down the road and you can find the popular Edwardian seaside resort town of Grange-over-Sands, with an abundance of shops, pubs and cafes; there is plenty to see and do. If visiting the seaside is of interest to you, why not head a little bit further out to Roanhead Beach near Ulverston or Humphrey Head?
Other close by popular towns include Cartmel, 4 miles, a traditional Cumbrian village famous for its sticky toffee pudding and race course. The towns of Kendal, 12 miles, Windermere, 13 miles, and Coniston, 20 miles, all have plenty to offer. The south Lake District is only a 10-minute drive away, with Newby Bridge nearby which is home to the Lakes Aquarium.
Whilst most people visit the area to walk, there are plenty of other outdoor activities on offer. There is a golf course within 2 miles, a leisure centre with swimming pool at Kendal, 12 miles, and at Grizedale Forest, 13 miles, there is mountain biking, Segways and the Go Ape treetop adventure. Other popular activities include climbing, fell running and watersports. Newby Bridge, home to the Lakes Aquarium, Windermere Lake Cruises and the Haverthwaite steam train, is just 7 miles away. Known as the gateway to the lakes, you can easily access many popular towns around Cumbria including Ulverston, Ambleside, Coniston, Bowness-on-Windermere and Windermere.

You will be able to enjoy many local attractions including a special trip on the miniature railway at Ravenglass, enjoy the sights of the Lakes at Ennerdale or Buttermere, trips to Whitehaven with the famous Rum Story and Beacon Museum. Keswick and Windermere with their local shops, cafés and restaurants are well worth a vist.

Outside to the rear is a private and enclosed patio garden, a perfect place to have a drink and enjoy the sunsets on those long summer evenings with friends.
