This beautiful property has been expertly converted from a 19th century barn, with easy access to local pubs, amazing walks and scenery and just 5 miles from Keswick.
1, The Barns is full of character and stunning features, from exposed stone walls and oak beams, to wooden and slate floors as well as a wood burner for those cosy nights in.
The ground floor is open plan and has a well-equipped kitchen, complete with a dishwasher and washing machine, fridge/freezer and large dining table. There’s also a walk-in pantry equipped with additional kitchen gadgets. The living room has plenty of easy seating, modern furnishings, and a wall-mounted flat screen TV. The focal point is the lovely wood burner. The downstairs is a very social space and it’s ideal for a family get together, a games night, a movie and few glasses of wine in the evening. In the entrance porch, you also have a boot room with heated drying cabinet for any wet walking gear and outside a garage for storing your bikes, golf clubs or kayaks. There is also a tumble dryer in the garage. The property has a semi-enclosed patio garden with seating, a barbecue and firepit, perfect for soaking up the sunshine and a bit of fresh air.
Set in the hamlet of Guardhouse, close to Threlkeld and Keswick, just off the A66, it has a picturesque River Glenderamackin running through it, with peaceful countryside walks from your door. The area is famous for spotting red squirrels, fed by the locals; these indigenous creatures are often seen scurrying through the branches and in and around the garden. Adjacent is Keswick Golf Club, so if you fancy a round while you’re away, you couldn’t be much closer. The quaint hamlet of Scales with a local pub is just ¾ mile, a 20 minute walk along a signposted footpath across fields or 1½ miles by road. The village of Threlkeld with two well-known gastro pubs offer great food and local cask ales are a 1¾ mile walk along a scenic footpath by the river.
You are just 5 miles from the vibrant Lake District town of Keswick, which is brimming with great restaurants, pubs serving local craft ales, an excellent range of shopping experiences and some memorable tourist attractions. If you fancy something a bit different, then why not visit The Derwent Pencil Museum, home to the world’s largest pencil. Also within easy reach is Puzzling Place, which is full of mind-boggling optical illusions. If you like culture, you could try the Theatre By The Lake, with its enviable position on the shores of Derwentwater, which offers award-winning performances in drama and arts. If you like walking or cycling, you are surrounded by some of the most challenging fells in the area, there are many easier walking routes for people who like sightseeing without the strain. Keswick is at the northern end of Derwentwater, one of the area’s iconic lakes, and offers a great base and starting point for your adventures. You can tick off a few of Wainwright’s 214 Lakeland Fells, including Skiddaw, Blencathra and Helvellyn within a few miles.

This large, mid-terraced property in Bassenthwaite is ideal for a memorable Lake District escape, a family get together or special occasion and can easily accommodate multiple couples. This delightful cottage has comfortable furniture throughout and features four good sized bedrooms upstairs. The master has a double bed and a contemporary en-suite shower room. It has two double rooms, one with a kingsize bed, as well as a comfortable twin room. The modern bathroom suite has a large bath with views of Bassenthwaite lake, and a walk-in shower and heated towel rail.

You can explore this stunning area on foot yet you are only a few miles from Keswick, Cockermouth and the surrounding Lakeland Fells. The quiet village location means that you can escape your busy lifestyle and retreat to the countryside in no time. There is good access to plenty of walking and cycle routes nearby as well as more challenging fells including Skiddaw, Catbells, Latrigg and Blencathra. Just under a mile away is The Lake District Wildlife Park with over 100 species of wild animals. Visit The Lakes Distillery, producers of fine whisky, gin and vodka and offering tasting tours, always a hit. Just 7 miles away is the popular town of Keswick on the shores of Derwent Water, with an abundance of dining and shopping experiences as well as a mix of cultural hotspots and tourist attractions. Day passes are available for all leisure facilities at The Castle Inn situated across the road from the property. These are available to buy from the Castle Inn, including swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, gym and tennis court.

Located in a quiet end of the Northern Lake District, with stunning open views of the surrounding fells, the only disturbances during your stay here may only be the gentle hustle of the dairy cows passing as they head to the farm for milking, and the background tune of birdsong.
Greenah View is an exceptionally well-appointed, semi-detached property dating back to 17th century. It has a large entrance hall, with a seating area and an adjacent bookcase full of local guides and walks to give you plenty of ideas for exploring during your stay. The living room is a perfect space to sit in front of the open fire after the day’s adventures, whilst the dual-aspect windows offer views to each side. A large kitchen/dining room has everything you need to prepare a hearty meal. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a feature four poster bed, and there are two other bedrooms and a family bathroom, along with a downstairs shower room. Outside, the immaculate garden, with planted borders and raised beds, has two seating areas. The more sheltered lower area suited for those early morning coffees, and the raised area for those long summer evenings sitting with a glass of wine whilst watching the sun set over the countryside.
Uldale sits in a corner of the Lake District, an area the locals call Back o’Skiddaw. The quieter Northern Fell Ranges rarely get crowded, even in the height of summer, whilst the numerous pretty villages, with tea rooms, galleries and stunning landscapes making it a perfect days touring, whether by car or cycling. This old, stone barn, surrounded by 20 acres of unspoilt pasture land, with the owner’s living next door, dates back to the mid 1800s, and has been lovingly converted into a holiday home, combining charm and rustic features alongside all the contemporary comforts and amenities. At one end of the room is a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, and at the other end is a welcoming living area with plenty of comfy seating and a cosy wood burner, perfect for those cooler evenings. Lying close to the foot of the Howgill Fells, Brow View Cottage is surrounded by open countryside, and there are plenty of walking and cycling routes direct from the front door. The nearest village is Ravenstonedale, just 1½ miles away, which has award winning pubs as well as a 9-hole golf course and tennis courts. A wider range of amenities can be found in the nearby market town of Kirkby Stephen, including independent shops, cafés and pubs, as well as a couple of supermarkets and a tourist/visitor centre. Kirkby Stephen also has a Heritage railway station and a weekly market which is held in the town square every Monday. The first ’Walkers are Welcome’ town, Kirkby Stephen is surrounded by spectacular countryside with miles of footpaths, bridleways and open land, making this the ideal base for those who love the outdoors. Apart from the fantastic walking and cycling opportunities, there is also a pony trekking centre just 1 mile away. Alternatively why not take a scenic rail journey on the historic Settle-Carlisle line, or travel vintage style with Cumbria Classic Coaches from Kirkby Stephen to Hawes, where you can visit the Wensleydale Creamery, Barnard Castle and Bowes museum.
Brow View Cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Eden Valley, as well as popular days out including the Rheged Visitor Centre, National Trust’s Acorn Bank and the historic market town of Appleby. The town of Kendal, which is regarded as the southern gateway to the Lake District, is just 20 miles away and makes for a great day out. Sedbergh, which is located within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, is just 9 miles away. The lake is home to rainbow, tiger, blue and brown trout – probably the true fisherman’s ideal holiday destination. For the novice, try your hand at the fun fishing pond and bag yourself that ’I’ve caught my first fish’ experience, with all tuition and equipment provided. The cottage is situated only 1 mile away from the picturesque market town of Brampton and further afield is the lovely city of Carlisle. Ullswater and the Northern Lakes are just over half an hour’s drive away. This is the ideal base for a holiday full of adventure and exploring, and no visit is complete without a visit to the famous Hadrian’s Wall. There are also lovely riverside walks close by. Located in the small hamlet of Hartley, approximately 1 mile from the popular Cumbrian town of Kirkby Stephen, this charming cottage, originally a brewery and inn, offers welcoming, comfortable accommodation ideal for couples or a small family who enjoy exploring, walking or cycling in stunning countryside. The Yorkshire Dales National Park, Upper Eden Valley and North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty are all right on the doorstep, and it is also within easy reach of the Lake District National Park. Dating back to the 1700s, the cottage, which is attached to the main house, has retained lots of lovely character features, which include exposed stone work on the stairs and a fantastic spacious bedroom with beams and galleried area. These traditional features are combined with all the contemporary comforts one expects from a holiday home, such as Wi-Fi, a well-equipped kitchen and contemporary bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. There is also a useful vestibule area where you can store outdoor clothing and boots.
Once a traditional farming and quarrying village, Hartley is a quiet place to stay, and the main sound you will hear is the babbling beck which runs through the village to the front of the cottage. The remains of the 12th-century castle can be seen on the hill which overlooks the village and on the summit of Hartley Fell are the mysterious ’Nine Standards’, a line of nine standing stones. Situated on the Coast to Coast footpath, the cottage is perfect for walkers. There is a variety of walks on offer to suit all abilities from a quiet riverside walk or a stroll along the railway lines to more challenging fell walks. The Eden Viaducts footpath starts in Hartley and the Howgill Fells are within easy reach, as are the North Pennines. The area is also great for cycling, with Kirkby Stephen on the C2C (Sea to Sea) Cycle Route. Other routes nearby include the W2W (Walney to Wear) coast to coast route and the Lakes and Dales Loop. There is an electric bike hire shop in the village and normal bike hire in Kirkby Stephen, or should you wish to bring your own bikes, storage is available on-site. Other popular activities available locally include golf and fishing. The popular ’Walkers are Welcome’ town of Kirkby Stephen is just 1 mile away and there is a footpath which will take just over 5 minutes to walk into town. Here you will find a good selection of shops, pubs, cafés and eateries as well as a couple of supermarkets, and there is a weekly market held on Mondays. The town also has a heritage centre and train station which is on the famous Settle-Carlisle line. In addition to its stunning scenery the area is also rich in culture and heritage and there are castles at Brough and Pendragon, both of which are free to visit. Grey Walls is an impressive and quite outstanding detached country house, standing in an elevated position within extensive grounds. Its superb Lakeland location, in the village of Patterdale, lies at the southern end of Ullswater. Architect designed, it incorporates fascinating features such as oriel windows with views to Striding Edge and Helvellyn, all set in dressed stone. Internally the accommodation has a unique character, with oak panelling and a 17th-century court cupboard. The house manages to incorporate cottage charm, with the majority of rooms taking advantage of the exquisite outlooks. The grounds are delightful; they are all south facing and include extensive terracing, with water features, fish pond and broad areas of lawn with rhododendron bushes. There are magnificent fell views in all directions. Kirkstone Pass rises up to the south of the village dropping down into Ambleside and Windermere, so the location is central to both the North and South Lakes, and therefore excellent for touring the National Park. Above the valley behind Patterdale is the famous Striding Edge, a knife edge ridge, leading onto Helvellyn and is popular among more serious walkers. For a less strenuous walk you will find Aira Force, a short drive north, which is the Lake District’s most famous waterfall. There are watersports available on the lake and the steamer is a beautiful way to enjoy the scenery.

Set on a hillside in the beautiful Eden Valley, this lovely stone holiday cottage enjoys peace and privacy with panoramic views of the Pennines and Lakeland fells. Standing opposite the owners’ home, it has been tastefully converted from a former coach house. Retaining much of its original character, it is situated in a cobbled courtyard with the original restored well. All around are beautiful walks, with Cross Fell only a morning’s stroll away. Fishing is available on Blencarn Lake and River Eden. Tour the Yorkshire Dales, the Lake District and Border Country, with Lake Ullswater only half an hour’s drive. The market town of Penrith with its castle ruins, nearby. The cottage itself is set in the sleepy village of Ousby, surrounded by countryside and home to a village pub, open Thursday-Monday.
