Famous for its magnificent, 14th-century church, known as ’The Cathedral of the Peak’, Tideswell is a large village set in the midst of glorious countryside. With its dog friendly reputation, it makes an excellent base with traditional pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, delicatessens, butchers, and even a local supermarket. Throughout the year events are held such as the Tideswell Food Festival in May, and Well Dressings and Wakes Week in late June to early July.

There are some stunning walks through Tideswell Dale, where there is a nature reserve that leads out onto the Monsal Trail, a popular Peak District walking and cycling trail. The Limestone Way also passes through, and with it heading south can take you all the way to Rocester on the Staffordshire border, or north to the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and Mam Tor, which is around 7 miles away. The ever popular market town of Bakewell is home to the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, and can be reached in around 15 minutes, as can Buxton with its Pavilion Gardens and Opera House. For those thrill seekers, Matlock and its stunning cable car ride can be reached in around 30 minutes, and the UK’s biggest amusement park, Alton Towers, is around 45 minutes. Incredibly popular with walkers and cyclists, the village has a number of public thoroughfares with the beautiful Sett Valley Trail, Kinder Plateau, Pennine Way and Snake Path all easily accessible.

The surrounding area of the Peak District holds many beautiful towns and villages which are easily reached including the small picturesque village of Edale, home to the start/end of the UK’s first long distance walking path - The Pennine Way. Set in the stunning Hope Valley countryside, the rural hill village of Castleton, famous for its caverns, can be reached in half an hour and Bakewell, home to its namesake pudding and the magnificent historic houses of Chatsworth Estate and Haddon Hall, can be reached within 45 minutes’. Horse riding can also be found nearby, and for children, Hayfield Park is ¼ mile which consists of playground, zip line, skateboard ramps and a mini bike track. This attractive detached house has been lovingly furnished to a good standard and is situated in the pretty village of Clifton. On the ground floor is a cosy living room, a dining room with seating for all 6 guests and a well-equipped kitchen to rustle up your favourite family dish. Moving upstairs is the master bedroom with a kingsize bed and en-suite facilities. A further two bedrooms comprise of one with a double bed and the other with twin beds, both with a TV. A family bathroom is also conveniently situated on this floor.
This holiday property is in a great location for exploring the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Peak District, and the fabulous market town of Ashbourne, with its quirky antique shops and many bespoke coffee shops and restaurants. Ashbourne is known as the gateway to the Peak District National Park and is an ideal base to visit many attractions, including Alton Towers, 8 miles.
There are so many places to visit in the Peak District that one visit may not be enough. Interesting market towns offer very different attractions. Visit Bakewell and its museum to learn more about the Bakewell Elephant, or the spa town of Buxton with its opera house.
Castleton and its amazing show caves, Blue John mines and cliff top Peveril Castle is worth the trip, and no visit to the Peak District would be complete without a day spent at fabulous Chatsworth House and Gardens, with waterfall cascade and the Emperor Fountain reaching heights of 300ft!

This charming terraced cottage is located opposite Manor Park which was once part of Glossop Hall and today is one of the area’s most popular parks with landscaped garden, lake, tennis courts and children’s play area. Families will also enjoy the caverns located around the spa town of Buxton, the mining museum and mines at Matlock, 32 miles, and Cannon Hall Farm at Cawthorne, 22 miles. There are also several show caves around Castleton, 15 miles. For those who prefer all the facilities that a big city has to offer, Manchester is just 15 miles away. Popular attractions in and around the city include Old Trafford, the Trafford Centre, Chill Factor and the Airkix indoor skydiving. National Trust properties are within easy driving distance include Lyme Park which was used as the location for BBC’s Pride and Prejudice, 12 miles, and Chatsworth is 27 miles.
