Located just 1 mile from Clapham, Newby Cotes is a charming village with a rich history as a Kendal-to-Skipton thoroughfare. The Old Sawmill Café, housed in a former sawmill, offers a unique historical setting. Nearby, the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail leads to the renowned Ingleborough Cave. Cyclists frequent the Croft Café, and local shops showcase crafts and knitting. The trail also unveils Trow Gill, Gaping Gill, limestone pavements, and Ingleborough’s summit. Ingleton Waterfall trail at Ingleton is also within driving distance and Kirkby Lonsdale, a quirky market town, is just over the Cumbria border. Located in a great spot within a couple of minutes’ walk away from the centre of Stanhope, The Butts Cottage is in the perfect location for walkers, cyclists, small families or guests wanting to enjoy a quiet, romantic break. Fully refurbished, this detached cottage is cosy and welcoming, and is all on one level. The kitchen is small and compact, yet offers a good range of appliances and a breakfast bar for dining. The double bedroom is small and well presented, whilst the single bedroom is ideal for a child. There is a small garden to the front, and the River Wear is just a short walk away.

Stanhope is a thriving market town offering a variety of local amenities, including plenty of pubs, tea shops and cafés, a sweet shop, local butchers, bakers and fish and chip shop – all within walking distance from the front door of The Butts Cottage. A very popular base for walkers and cyclists too, Stanhope is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is often referred to as ’The Gateway to the Dales’ and is home to the very informative Durham Dales Centre, which boasts an informative selection of maps, as well as a variety of craft shops and a small café.

Walkers will find themselves surrounded by the open countryside of Weardale, with many established walks, cycle paths and routes running directly from the town and out towards some of the traditional villages nearby including, Eastgate, Cowshill, Rookhope, Killhope, Frosterley and Wolsingham. For very energetic guests, Stanhope boasts The Weardale Open Air Swimming Pool, which is the only heated open-air pool in the county, and perfect for a warm dip surrounded by beautiful views of the countryside.

Ideal for children is the Weardale Railway that stops in Stanhope, and covers an 18-mile heritage line that runs through parts of County Durham and has different events all year round, including the very popular Train Christmas Town. A little further afield, but still within an easy 40-minute drive, guests will be able to visit the city of Durham with its historic cathedral, castle and university. The university campuses can be reached within a 45-minute drive, so are very accessible for guests wanting to visit friends and family there yet remain a short distance away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Barnard Castle, Beamish Living Museum, Gateshead Metrocentre, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hexham, Corbridge and Hadrian’s Wall can all be reached in an hour’s drive and offer a great day out for guests of all ages. White Cottage is a comfortable semi-detached holiday home in the Lincolnshire Wolds which is an AONB. With an 18-hole golf course in the village and Cadwell Park Race circuit just a short drive away, 5 miles, there is something for nearly everyone to see and do. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and visitor centre is at Coningsby just 13 miles away. The Lincolnshire Wolds are full of good walks and cycle routes for the more energetic with the local pub just a short walk to wind down in afterwards in the evenings. Positioned on the high ground with far reaching countryside views, this spacious semi-detached cottage forms part of the owner’s 16th century thatched Devon longhouse and retains some interesting features. Barnstaple is only a short drive and close by are the RHS gardens at Rosemoor, Dartington Crystal and the historic fishing village at Clovelly. Popular North Devon beaches are within a ½-hour drive. The market town of Ashbourne, ‘Gateway to the Peak District’, and Dovedale are only 3 miles away where guests will find a good choice of shops, restaurants and pubs. Carsington Water offers sailing, windsurfing, rafting and canoeing and is an ideal place to spend a day out in the Derbyshire countryside. The Old Forge is a sympathetically converted, detached 200-year old cottage retaining many character features, and has an enclosed garden. It has barn owls for neighbours - they nest in the adjoining barn!
The dog friendly property is tucked away in a peaceful lane adjacent to the owner’s home on the edge of the picturesque village of Beckermet. It is situated close to Whitehaven with its historic harbour, marina and shops, which has twice been named as a Brita resort, and St Bees with its expanse of sandy beaches.
This is an ideal location from which to explore the wonderful Western Fells of the Lake District National Park and the Cumbrian coastline. Ennerdale Water and Wastwater, once voted ’Britain’s Best View’ and nearby Scafell Pike, are within easy driving distance. For a superb day out, Muncaster Castle also has beautiful gardens and an internationally renowned Owl Sanctuary, not to mention the amazing views from its elevated position. Day permits for trout fishing are available within half a mile. Beach 1½ miles. Shop 3¾ miles, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

French doors lead out to a wonderful enclosed rear courtyard with patio furniture, a great place to relax and unwind after a day of sea air and exploring the local area.
Just a stone’s throw from Gorleston beach, a glorious wide sandy beach backed with promenade and eateries. These dog friendly beaches are great for walks, with a beach café and pub at either end, both offering refreshments and food. The town centre is within ¾ of a mile having shops and further eateries to enjoy. River cruises available on the amazing Norfolk Broads, a National Park with over 125 miles of waterways, or daily boat hire available to explore at your own speed.
Great Yarmouth seaside resort has a 15-mile stretch of glorious sandy beach with pier, entertainment, Sea Life Centre, bowling, amusements, donkey rides, bouncy castles, model village, fun fair for both small children and adrenaline rides, crazy golf, swimming pool (opening summer 2022), restaurants, cafés and pubs. Deck chairs are available for hire and boat trips are available to visit the seals at Scroby Sands. There is a firework spectacular each Wednesday during the summer season. The town has shops, supermarkets, cafés, pubs, and a train station with regular service to other coastal villages and the city of Norwich, a shopper’s delight, a stadium for grey hound racing, stock car racing and horse racing. The area is filled with interesting villages and plenty of eateries to enjoy. The city of Norwich, 23 miles, for excellent shopping with two indoor malls, market square, cathedral, castle museum, theatre, cafés, and restaurants. Beach 1 mile. Shop and pub ¾ mile.

Bow Cottage lies in the ancient town of Fordwich, known as the smallest town in Great Britain and is a comfortable terraced holiday cottage which has been renovated to a very good standard, retaining stone clad walls. The front-facing living room boasts a feature bow window and woodburner, and the galley-style kitchen, which has tiled floors, leads into the dining room with patio doors opening on to a patio. This is a great location for walks directly from Fordwich and the outlying area, for exploring, and for sampling the local ales in one of the two local pubs. Explore the historic city of Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral, learn about Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales or take a boat trip on the River Stour. Cycle the Crab and Winkle Way, visit the coast at Herne Bay or spot a seal and sample the oysters at Whitstable, 12 miles. Another enjoyable experience is to go back in time and explore the castles of Dover, Deal and Walmer. Good train connections to London. Shop ¼ mile, pubs/restaurants 100 yards.
