Whitehaven’s harbour has undergone major investment and development and is home to The Beacon Museum with interactive displays. You can tour The Rum Story attraction and find out all about the history of The Jefferson family from the original 1785 shop. The town also has an indoor public swimming pool, gym, sports centre, 1½ miles and golf course, 1¾ miles if you’re feeling energetic. A trip to this part of the world would not be complete without visiting St. Bees Head and the long sandy beaches 4¾ miles. St Bees is also the starting point of Alfred Wainwright’s Coast to Coast walk and has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
