Tissington has a lot to offer; it is the home of the well-dressing event, Tissington Hall, and the Tissington Trail is one of the best walking and cycling routes in the Peak District. Another fantastic walk from Tissington is to Dovedale, where the famous Dovedale stepping stones are. Alton Towers is a 25 minute drive which makes a great day out for all the family. This truly is a fantastic property to return back to after you have finished exploring for the day.

Redmonds Retreat is a mid-terraced cottage located within the village of Chinley. The village has two fantastic pubs serving home cooked meals and there are also direct train lines into Sheffield or Manchester. Walkers and cyclists can enjoy an abundance of walking and cycling routes to explore. There is a lovely garden area at the front with table and chairs from where you can see the river. On entering the cottage, you are greeted by the open plan living area, which the owners have cleverly designed to feel spacious. Within a few minutes walking distance is the local village pub serving fine cask ales and food. The market town of Belper stands at the heart of the Derwent Valley which was granted World Heritage Site status in 2001. The Derwent Valley Visitor Centre located within the Strutt’s North Mill gives visitors the chance to see inside the mill, cotton spinning, and discover more about the town’s history and the industrial revolution. Belper River Gardens offers visitors a tranquil setting to view the River Derwent and is located adjacent the Strutt’s historic North Mill and dominant red bricked East Mill. The industrial-inspired children’s play area and café are open all year, whilst in the summer months, rowing boat hire, and brass bands playing in the bandstand can be enjoyed.
Belper town centre, winner of the 2020 Champion High Street Award for England, boasts many independent shops, cafés, pubs, bars and a cinema.

Traditional towns of Ashbourne and Bakewell are nearby. The magnificent Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and Pooles Cavern are just a few of the attractions, and Matlock Bath is only a 20-minute drive, well known for its riverside parade of fish and chip shops, arcades, cable cars and aquarium. Ruby Cottage is a renovated one bedroom cottage, located in an elevated position in the quaint village of Longnor close to the popular spa town of Buxton. This ancient village is set in lovely moorland countryside, six miles to the southeast of Buxton. The River Dove flows to the north, the River Manfold to the south and large numbers of visitors came here to explore the upper reaches of these two famous valleys and the rugged scenery that surrounds them. The village is well equipped with a local store, a fish and chip shop, a newly refurbished pub, post office and Sweetilicious sweetie shop. The Packhorse at Crowdecote is less than a mile away and there are many other good pubs within a few mile radius. Information on these can be found in the cottage.

There are many stunning walks right from the doorstep and the property has the benefit of being close to many interesting Derbyshire towns and villages including Matlock, Matlock Bath, Bakewell, famous for its puddings, and Castleton with its amazing show caves and cliff top Peveril Castle. Attractions include stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, the Heights of Abraham, a cable car ride high above the gorge and Blue John Caves known for its semi-precious Blue John Stone. Buxton Opera House is also worth checking out to see what’s on.
