Today the town still has much to offer with a good selection of restaurants, whilst being regarded as something of a haven for antique hunters, but don’t expect a bargain! For those who prefer outdoor pursuits, the Dove and Manifold Valleys are close by offering good walking and cycling, whilst Alton Towers is just 25 minutes away!

Whaley Bridge is a small town located in Derbyshire, England, known for its picturesque surroundings and the iconic Whaley Bridge Reservoir. Here, visitors can explore the charming town centre, take a stroll along the scenic Peak Forest Canal, and admire the stunning views from the nearby Toddbrook Reservoir. Dawn Cottage is a warm welcoming family run traditional farm set within the Dovedale region of Peak District National Park, between Ashbourne and Buxton. The owners run a livestock farm, and as well as breeding cows and sheep they also have geese, hens and sheepdogs. This beautiful barn conversion is located on a gentle hillside offering glorious panoramic views over the River Dove and open countryside extending to the Tissington Trail and the Dove Valley.

The historic market town of Chesterfield acts as the gateway to the Peak District, and has much to offer visitors. The town is famous for its 14th-century church with its crooked spire twisting curiously from its centre, while the town offers guests the opportunity to explore the market and many of the specialist shops dotted in and out of the shambles. The town also boasts Queens Park, with its lake, walks and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre. Close by you will find the impressive Elizabethan Hardwick Hall, with its six grand towers elaborately monogramed with Bess of Hardwick’s initials, overlooking the superb gardens and walled courtyards of the grounds. Also popular with visitors is the semi-ruined 17th-century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop, looking west towards the heights of the Peak District.

Hathersage is a large, busy village in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and has associations with both Robin Hood and the Brontës. It is home to a good selection of shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as, quite uniquely, a seasonal outdoor heated swimming pool. Centrally located, the neighbouring village of Bamford is just over 1 mile away, Hope 3 miles and then the beautiful honeypot village of Castleton is just under 5 miles away. The fascinating plague village of Eyam is around a 15 minute drive; Bakewell and Chatsworth House are around 20 minutes away. Hathersage, Bamford and Hope all have their own train stations connecting you to the bright lights of Sheffield and Manchester. An area popular with lovers of the great outdoors, you’ll find ample walking, cycling and climbing available. Popular with walkers and cyclists, fabulous countryside surrounds the village with various tracks and routes radiating from the area. Mam Tor and Bradwell Edge are probably the most famous local viewpoints and are well worth a visit, with the outstanding breathtaking scenery as a reward. Golf, horse riding, hand gliding, rock climbing, caving and fishing are also available throughout the area.
The beautiful honeypot village of Castleton and the larger village of Tideswell are both around a 10-minute drive away.
