The Salt House is situated at the end of the castle’s private driveway. Built in the 18th century, it has a lot of history and character throughout. Recently renovated, this beautiful Georgian house has modern amenities and elegant locally sourced furnishings. With open plan living room, kitchen and dining areas to accommodate all your guests, you can truly celebrate or relax.

Berkeley is a superb holiday base, hosting a dramatic 12th-century castle, a selection of amenities and the fascinating Dr Jenner’s House, Museum and Garden. On the outskirts of the town is Cattle Country Adventure Farm Park, perfect for a fun-filled family day. Spend a day in the picturesque market town of Stroud, browsing the eclectic mix of shops selling everything from fossils to fairies and vintage to vinyl, or make your way to Cirencester, home to some fabulous amenities and widely considered the capital of the Cotswolds.

Fern Bank Cottage sits in the Forest of Dean with direct access to cycle routes and beautiful walks from the front door. Our cottage is an ideal place to explore this fabulous area.

The cottage is full of home-from-home comforts including a large kitchen leading into a spacious living room with a wood burner, Smart TV and bi-fold doors leading to a large, decked area with garden furniture. At the front of the cottage, you will find the snug, a cosy second sitting room with plenty of games and books to enjoy. Upstairs there are three large bedrooms, with the master having an en-suite shower room and a family-sized bathroom.

The local areas have fascinating history and heritage and cycling enthusiasts will find plenty of cycle trails. Bike hire is only 1 mile from the cottage. There are also two fantastic pubs within walking distance. Nearby our guests can enjoy Symonds Yat Rock, Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves, Stand up paddle boarding, canoeing, Go Ape and many more activities. There is good fishing, RSPB reserves, riding, golf and tennis. The market towns of Ross-on-Wye, Chepstow and Monmouth are within easy driving distance from Fern Bank Cottage as we are just 5 miles from the beautiful Wye Valley.

Humbug House has been renovated to a high standard in 2023 and offers home from home luxury comfort in the fabulous Forest of Dean. Walks can be had straight from the front door into the forest. The spacious open plan living room is perfect for entertaining friends or family. The underfloor heating on the ground floor will keep your toes toasty and warm. The living room leads to an enclosed garden perfect for letting your four-legged friend out for some fresh air. There are three bedrooms, each with luxury bedding, and the master bedroom has en-suite facilities.
There are many attractions in this area including miles of very scenic footpaths straight from the front door. You’ll never be at a loss for something to see and do in the Forest of Dean. With the natural environment, fascinating history and heritage, and an array of attractions and activities are to be had here. For cycling enthusiasts, there are 33 cycle trails for all levels. There are many activities and days out to be had, such as Symonds Yat rock, Puzzlewood, Clearwell Caves and Coleford with its Great Western Railway Museum.
Humbug House provides the perfect location for visitors with pets. The Dean Heritage Centre, Dean Forest Railway, Tintern Abbey and the Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum are all nearby. Alternatively, visit the English Heritage’s Goodrich Castle, National Trust Round House and Naval Temple. Zion Chapel is in the heart of the Forest of Dean, perfect for those wanting to explore the beautiful surrounding areas that the forest has to offer. This Grade II listed property has been restored to a high standard and offers a large open plan living area with wood burner – perfect for those cosy evenings in - as well as a kitchen and dining area with everything you could need home from home. The open plan living space has a kingsize bed and two sofa beds, a Smart TV, bathroom with walk-in rainfall shower and a heated towel rail. The ceiling of the chapel is accessed via a spiral staircase and has two single sofa beds; the views over the village and surrounding countryside from here are just fabulous. The large patio area with furniture and a swing seat, the perfect place for relaxing in with a glass of something chilled, and there is also and enclosed patio to the rear of the property.
Walks can be enjoyed straight from the property with immediate access into the forest. You won’t get bored exploring local forests, whether cycling through the many trails or admiring the views on foot. You might like to jump on the train and head 45 minutes away to Cardiff for shopping and dining out. For a great day out, be sure to visit Gloucester Cathedral, a must see for Harry Potter fans! Or for a change of pace enjoy some shopping in Cheltenham or Bristol. Other outdoor activities include canoeing at Symonds Yat, walking through Clearwell Caves hidden under the forest floor and Go Ape and Segways Beechenhurst. West End Farm Lodge Alabaster is a detached lodge that has been built in 2023, situated on the owner’s 14-acre working farm. Set within the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with fabulous far-reaching views of the rolling countryside. All ground floor accommodation with open plan living space with a well-equipped kitchen – perfect for cooking up a storm whilst all socialising together. There are two bedrooms, both with en-suite shower rooms. One of the bedrooms has a zip and link bed so can be converted to twin beds if needed. Outside there is decking area with seating and enclosed lawned area – perfect for your four legged friends. There is an outdoor washing area for bikes and dogs, and use of a utility room with washing machine. Dog sitting is available with prior arrangement and paid directly to the owner.

Local attractions include Puzzlewood, Go Ape high wire adventure course, the steam railway, Little Dean Jail and Dean Heritage Centre. Clearwell Caves and Tintern Abbey are also very popular. Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye are also within easy driving distance and have some fantastic historic castles to visit.
