Cromer and Sheringham are 12 miles away for traditional seaside attractions, or visit Wroxham, known as the ‘capital of the Broads’, 12 miles away, where you can hire a day boat and explore the waterways. There is also a train station, model village, waterside restaurants, cafés and shops available.
For the gardener, a visit to the 32 acres of garden at the Old Vicarage Gardens at East Ruston is a must. Golfers will enjoy Mundesley and the Royal Cromer golf course. National Trust properties nearby include Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park and Horsey Wind Pump. Bustling Wroxham, known as the capital of the Norfolk Broads National Park, has a main line train station for visiting seaside towns and Norwich City, 7 miles. Family fun can be enjoyed at BeWILDerwood at Horning, and the Dinosaur Park at Lenwade. You will find wide sandy beaches backed by dunes at Hemsby, Winterton on Sea and Sea Palling are 20 minutes’ drive, along with Great Yarmouth, with funfair and traditional seaside amusements.

The medieval town of Kings Lynn, 10 miles, is complete with handsome waterfront offering an array of good shops, inns, restaurants, a theatre, cinema, bowling alley and a sports centre. Both west and north Norfolk have an expanse of sandy beaches and salt marshes along the coastline, as well as nature reserves to protect the birds and plants which thrive here. For those who enjoy a visit to the beach whilst on holiday, Snettisham Beach is the closest at 30 minutes’ drive. Further along the coast road are the traditional seaside resorts of Hunstanton and Heacham, which boast beaches and an array of traditional seaside activities and attractions for all ages. Hunstanton, 24 miles, has a pier with lively seasonal entertainment, a Sea Life Centre and cliff-top golf course. Heacham, 22 miles, is home to Norfolk Lavender and visitors may participate in guided tours of the expanse of lavender fields to observe the harvesting. Sandringham Estate,- the Queen’s country residence, with its Jacobean-style house, museum, superb gardens and park, are open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence. To the south lies Ely Cathedral, known as the Ship of the Fens. This small city has an excellent Saturday market and a good variety of gift shops, as well as a pretty waterfront and boat hire.
The historic city of Cambridge is easily accessible for the day, and well worth a visit. One of the nicest ways to explore the city is by punt, which meanders through the city and passes many of the stunning university grounds. There are also many shops, pubs, restaurants, and theatres. Norwich, famous for its cathedral, is also within easy reach, and not to be missed. Don’t miss the famous mustard shop there as well, with many new and old varieties of mustard that can be purchased. Year round there are activities and attractions for all ages nearby including Gooderstone Water Gardens, National Trust Oxburgh Hall, Stowe Farm and Neolithic Grimes Graves flint mine in the heart of King’s forest. Take to two wheels on the Norfolk Cycle Way with lots of routes and quiet roads. With so much to explore in every direction, you will be spoilt for choice what to do, before returning back home for a relaxing evening in the garden or by the wood burner and a good night’s sleep. Further along the coast lies Blakeney, Cley, Sheringham and Cromer with its famous Edwardian promenade and pier.
Pretty coastal villages, many of which offer artisan shops and great places to eat, salt marshes and beaches can be found to the west. The Victorian town of Hunstanton, with it’s famous stripy cliffs, has a beach that really does seem to go on forever and here you will find a small funfair, Sealife Centre and lots of traditional seaside amusements. Aptly named ‘Royal Norfolk’ has lots of stately homes and National Trust properties, including The Sandringham Estate, Peckover House and Gardens, Holkham Hall and Blickling Hall. History lovers should try to squeeze in a visit to the medieval city of Norwich, with it’s magnificent Norman castle and numerous museums, or perhaps visit the hanseatic quarter of Old Kings Lynn, which offers historical tours and, for the brave, ghost walks. There are many opportunities for bird watching at Titchwell Marsh, Scolt Head Island and Cley Marshes, and lots of great cycling routes and beautiful coastal walks. The surrounding area has lots of great places to eat out, many of which serve fresh local produce, but those wishing for a relaxing night in will be spoilt for choice too, with a state of the art kitchen and a pizza oven in the grounds. Fakenham, 2 miles, offers good shops, restaurants, inns, a bowling alley, cinema and golf course. Bustling Burnham Market with village shops, inns and restaurants, is 7 miles away. Wells-next-the-Sea, 8 miles, offers an excellent sandy beach with colourful beach huts, a small shopping town centre with many inns and restaurants, and a picturesque fishing harbour - popular for fresh shell fish. Further along the coast is Brancaster for an uncrowded sandy beach and golf course. Brancaster Staithe provides a popular venue for sailing and boating enthusiasts.

The traditional seaside towns of Heacham and Hunstanton offer an array of activities for all ages.
