Blakeney Quay is a short walk past the village shop (with bacon for the ever-obliging crabs). From here is access to the marsh or up to the village. Blakeney is a bird-watcher’s paradise; the coastal path runs in front of the house, there are seals at Blakeney Point, and it is surrounded by beautiful countryside walks. The historic little town of Holt is close by and offers a range of shops, pubs, restaurants, cafés and weekly markets. Within a few minutes’ drive is Holt Lowes, an area renowned for wildlife, designated as both a Site of Special Scientific Interest and Special Area of Conservation. Also worth a visit is Holt Country Park with its wealth of bird life, as well as other RSPB reserves. The region has several stately homes such as NT Blickling and Felbrigg Halls, Holkham Hall and Houghton Hall. Other interesting days out include visits to Sheringham Park, and Walsingham Shrine and Priory ruins. Sheringham offers golf and is home to the North Norfolk Steam Railway, Splash aqua pool, a promenade and a pier. Within easy driving distance is Norwich with its excellent shopping, restaurants, cathedral, theatre, pubs, cinema and markets. Wells-next-the-Sea is 5 miles and Holkham’s vast sandy beach is just 8 miles. Windsurfing, dinghy launching, sailing and boat trips are all available locally. For thrills and spills, head to the traditional seaside town of Hunstanton, with its wide sandy beach, fun fair, amusements and Sea Life Centre. Also close by is Blakeney Quay, with its trips to see the seals, Holkham beach with the famous Holkham Hall and beautiful beach, Brancaster beach and the bustling market town Burnham Market, with its mix of eateries and boutique shops. The town of Fakenham offers good shops, restaurants, cafés, golf, a racecourse, a cinema and a bowling alley.
A little further afield are the seaside towns of Sheringham and Cromer, the market town of Holt and the city of Norwich, with its famous Norman castle, numerous museums and all the facilities that you would expect from a fine city. Also worth exploring are the Norfolk Broads where you can enjoy boat trips. There are stately homes and National Trust properties galore, beautiful nature reserves and birdwatching opportunities, as well as pleasant walks and cycling routes – you can see why this area is so very popular. - Lovingly restored in 2011 with great attention to detail, our barn is on the Paston Way footpath in a designated Quiet Lane and only a mile from the sea.
- Wildlife may be seen in the meadow from the window and the cheeky Sparrows and Long tailed tits seem to escape the Sparrow Hawk, as do the fat Wood Pigeons.
- Sandstone flooring (with underfloor heating) and no stairs make Milestone barn very suitable for children, dogs and those with limited mobility.
