Ryndle Corner is a beautiful, detached house overlooking Peasholm Park, one of the finest locations in Scarborough and voted one of the best parks in the UK. The park has stunning gardens and wildlife, and lots of leisurely walks can be taken here. The park is also home to the world famous Naval Warfare, a unique miniature sea battle that is re-enacted. There are plenty of rowing boats and pedaloes that you can explore the lake on or if you prefer a more leisurely ride there’s the swan launch motor boat. During the summer season there are regular concerts in the park. The park also boasts an 18-hole mini golf course so there’s plenty to do right on your doorstep.
As well as Peasholm Park you are close to the cricket ground where the famous summer festival gives you the opportunity to see county cricket at its best. Ryndle Corner is a short stroll from the North Bay’s long sandy beach, which makes it a great location for a family holiday. Just down the hill is the Open Air Theatre, the largest open air amphitheatre in Europe where, during the summer season, you can enjoy concerts from world renowned artists. The Alpamare waterpark, offering water slides and a wave machine, is only a 10-minute stroll away. The location of Ryndle Corner means there really is something for everyone right on the doorstep!
The long wide sandy beach has won awards for cleanliness making it perfect for families. For the more adventurous, surfing lessons can be booked from the surf shop just down the hill. Scarborough boasts two beaches with a long, flat promenade where you can enjoy early evening strolls. The castle stands proud on the hillside separating the two bays. The South Bay is more vibrant with the amusements and shops, and the North Bay is the quieter, more peaceful area. For those of you who like evening entertainment, the Stephen Joseph Theatre is close by. Famous for the world premieres of almost all of Alan Ayckbourn’s plays, the theatre is well worth a visit. There are plenty of good bars and restaurants all within walking distance. Scarborough is a great base to see what the east coast has to offer.
Ryndle Corner is the perfect base for walkers too, being situated only a few miles from the famous North York Moors National Park, or you can walk part of the Cleveland Way along the rugged coast. Just a short drive and you can visit Whitby, Flamborough, Bridlington and the famous RSPB cliffs at Bempton where you can see the puffins and gannets in their natural habitat. The medieval city of York is only an hour away where you can visit the famous Minster or the railway museum.
The house is very large and spacious with seven bedrooms, two of which are en-suite, and the dining room has two tables to accommodate everyone. There’s plenty of space for two or three families to share and still have privacy in this homely property. At this time, the streets and the railway station are transported back to days gone by, a fabulous weekend for all ages. There’s a weekly market, and Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo is just 10 miles. With easy access to the Heritage Coast of Yorkshire, you can take in Whitby, known for its connections with James Cook and Bram Stoker,
18 miles, continuing along the road to Robin Hood’s Bay, a former smuggler’s cove, then Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington, all boasting miles of sandy beaches, donkey rides, fun palaces and fairs. A more sophisticated day can be enjoyed at the walled city of York with excellent shopping. Take in the street entertainers and maybe a boat trip along the river. Visit the art galleries and museums before returning to the comfort of Featherstone Cottage. There is so much to do and see in this area you may find yourself returning again and again. Curly Tail Cottage is ideally situated for exploring the North York Moors National Park, the North Yorkshire Coast and the Yorkshire Wolds. This is a self-contained, well appointed, one bedroom cottage, located on a working farm with uninterrupted views down the valley. The garden is enclosed with a seating area and small lawn and it overlooks the pond where you can sit and watch the wildlife. If you wish to bring your horse along then the owner can provide grazing (by direct arrangement with the owner at cost).
Harwood Dale is one of Yorkshire’s best kept secrets, an unspoilt area of Yorkshire with the most stunning scenery and wildlife. It is not far from the Dalby Forest with fantastic mountain bike trails, even the World Cup Cycle Trail has been held here, so there’s plenty of tracks to suit all abilities. The coast is just a short drive with Scarborough, England’s oldest seaside resort being the closest large resort, just 6 miles away with many shops and restaurants, and a visit to the Sea Life Sanctuary and Peasholm Park are not to be missed. Whitby 15 miles north, is rich in history and famous for its connections with Captain Cook. Here you can explore Whitby Abbey and the picturesque harbour, and wander around the cobbled streets full of interesting independent shops and cafés. To the rear of the property is an enclosed, sheltered courtyard that catches the afternoon sun, a lovely place to just sit and relax with your favourite holiday tipple!
The local village pub is a mere three minute walk from the cottage and is well known for its beer festivals and pizza nights. The magnificent stately home of the Howard family, Castle Howard, is a short drive from the cottage and is home to ITVs ‘Victoria’ programme and of course the filming location of ‘Brideshead Revisited’. A day exploring the house and gardens will be a welcome addition to your holiday itinerary and you simply must try the cakes on offer from one of the tea rooms! The Christmas experience is also one of the very best in the country. There are also other stately homes in the surrounding area, including Duncombe Park and Nunnington Hall. Don’t forget the stunning gardens at Helmsley too. The Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is right on your doorstep.
This area is a fantastic base for both cyclists and walkers alike with a large network of footpaths and winding country lanes. Fishing can be found 2 miles away at Brick Yard Lakes in Amotherby (at additional cost). The famous market towns of both Malton and Helmsley are only a few minutes’ drive away. Both offer market days around the cobbled squares at their centres as well as a great array of shops to wander in and too many cafés and restaurants to mention. The ancient walled city of York with its beautiful minster and award winning-attractions is only a 20-minute drive away. If you want a little excitement in your holiday, Flamingo Land theme park is close by where you can enjoy the thrills of rollercoasters all day long. Craven Garth Cottages are located in Rosedale, in the heart of the North York Moors National Park, on a family run working farm. All the cottages have been lovingly converted from old farm buildings and barns, and still retain much of their original character. Rosedale offers a warm welcome to all ages, and is popular year round with families, walkers and cyclists alike. There are two pubs situated in Rosedale alongside two cafés on the village green, all serving delicious local produce. This is a lovely walking route from Craven Garth Cottages either by the quiet road or via the old railway line. The village boasts the fun and challenging Rosedale Abbey Golf Course, welcome to all abilities and open Easter to October. The Golf Course is situated next to Chimney Bank, where you can enjoy panoramic views of Rosedale. Also in the village is a contemporary glass studio, open to visitors all year round, selling handmade glass art made on-site.

Rosedale is perfect for enjoying anything outdoors, and the varied landscape provides endless footpaths where you can enjoy spectacular scenery. The owners can provide many local walking maps if required. The famous ‘Old Ironstone Railway’ walk runs all the way around the valley, and you can stop off at the lovely inn en-route for some local ales and traditional food, before continuing onwards to Rosedale Village. The area is increasingly favoured by cyclists, who are also welcome to cycle the old railway line. The Yorkshire Cycle Hub is 12 miles away at Fryup, offering cycle hire, alongside an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride. Dalby Forest is well worth a visit and is also great for cycling, offering cycle hire and other adventure activities.

During your stay be sure to visit Ampleforth Abbey with its serene Abbey Church and grounds to explore at your leisure. Parking and entry is free, and Ampleforth boasts a great shop and tea room. Nearby Hutton-le-Hole, a picturesque village, offers a fantastic day out and even has its own Chocolate Factory. Visit Ryedale Folk Museum and sample the popular local ice cream and take a paddle in the stream. Fancy a stately home? Then look no further than Castle Howard, well worth a trip and a beautiful day out. The cottage is also within easy reach of Pickering with its many attractions including The North York Moors Railway which goes all the way to Whitby, where you can enjoy possibly the most famous fish and chips in the UK.

Set in a small hamlet just 1¼ miles from the centre of Skipton, this carefully furnished and co-ordinated detached barn conversion provides a wonderful, secluded getaway from the bustle of everyday life. It lies adjacent to the owner’s home and is well placed for rural walking direct from the door up and around Sharphaw, or alternatively you can walk into the bustling market town of Skipton where the Norman castle stands proudly at the top of a broad, sweeping cobbled High Street. There is a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants to explore, as well as trips on the canal, an indoor swimming pool, pitch and putt, and an 18-hole golf course. York is just over an hour’s drive, as is the Lake District. The spa town of Harrogate is a ½-hour drive, and will satisfy the most ardent of shoppers; whilst there take time to have afternoon tea at Betty’s tea room. Pheasant Lodge, refurbished in 2018 is a single-storey, detached lodge set at the bottom of a steep hill in a quiet part of the picturesque fishing village of Staithes in the North York Moors National Park. With a small enclosed courtyard and an open-plan living space as well as private parking, Pheasant Lodge is the perfect base in which to relax after a day of exploring this fantastic coastal area. Staithes Beck runs alongside the site with its own waterfall and wildlife.

This charming and sleepy seaside village of Staithes, with its cobbled streets and back alleys, is considered something of an artist’s dream, and even has its own popular Art and Heritage Festival along with regular workshops and artisan displays. The pretty houses and cottages dotted around the old harbour are surrounded by high craggy cliffs on three sides, and a sheltered sandy beach is set amongst the rocky coastline. Steeped in history, Captain Cook served his apprenticeship in Staithes, and there are many old buildings to admire and a museum to take you back in time.
Modern day Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops and tea rooms. Staithes is still home to a RNLI lifeboat station, and a small fleet of cobles (fishing boats) land their catch of fish, crab and lobster. There are also boat trips for birdwatching, fishing and whale watching available. An ’Illusion Trail’ guides visitors around the network of backstreets and alleyways. The best views of the town can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the cliff to the seashore. The Cleveland Way stretches its way along this dramatic coastline and is a firm favourite with walkers as it drops into many hidden bays and coves such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Saltburn-by-the-Sea.
The wonderful town of Whitby is just 10 miles away with its regular events and festivals including the Goth Weekend, a regatta and regular live music events to complement its many fabulous restaurants and bars, tea rooms and delis. Try climbing the 199 steps up to the abbey and St Mary’s Church from where you can take in the breathtaking views down into the town and out to sea.

Head inland to enjoy a myriad of walking and cycling routes that the National Park has to offer, enjoy a warm welcome in one of the many village inns dotted across the moors, or take it easy on board a steam train journey into the heart of this beautiful part of the world. Surf enthusiasts will enjoy Saltburn-by-the-Sea with its numerous surf schools and there are plenty of courses for the golfers. Alternatively, just sit back and relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity around Pheasant Lodge. Beach ½ mile. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 700 yards.

Scalby Mills is just down road and you can enjoy a lovely walk along the sea front from the Sea Life Centre, right onto the Scarborough’s North Bay with Peasholm Park, The Open Air Theatre with regular concerts by international stars throughout the summer and there is also a waterpark.
There is a wonderful seaside walk around to Scarborough’s South Bay, which is more bright lights, penny arcades and ice cream shops, as well as a long beach, donkey rides and all you would expect from a traditional seaside resort. Head inland from the coast and you’ll find plenty to see and do in and around the North York Moors National Park and the Forge Valley Woods National Nature Reserve. Dalby Forest, 8 miles away, is a popular destination for walkers, cyclists, outdoor adventures and also concerts. There are plenty of villages and towns such as Pickering, Malton, Helmsley and just 18 miles further up the coast is the traditional seaside town of Whitby. Oakridge is a stunning example of 1800s architecture with a luxurious, contemporary interior. This semi-detached property offers a large sociable kitchen/dining room for family meals and playing games in front of the Aga before retiring to the living room. Hinderwell is a village with excellent local amenities including a good butchers, convenience store, a local pub and a tea room all just a short walk from your doorstep. This quaint village is just a mile from the picturesque fishing village of Runswick Bay, which boasts a sandy cove with opportunities for fossil hunting and rock pooling, yet right in the North York Moors National Park. Head north or south on the Cleveland Way and visit some of the amazing coastal gems such as Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay, Sandsend or Saltburn.
The bustling town of Whitby is a short drive or bus ride away where you will find so much to see and do. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sandy beach, traditional amusement arcades and regular boat trips out to sea in search of minke whales and dolphins. There are many bistros and restaurants ranging from award-winning fish and chips to fine dining as well as tea rooms, coffee shops and pubs with live music. If you’re feeling energetic why not attempt the 199 steps up to the abbey that towers over Whitby.
You can drive inland to enjoy the natural beauty and some amazing heritage sites such as abbeys and monasteries within the National Park or catch a steam train as it snakes through the lush countryside to destinations such as Goathland and Pickering. There is a huge diversity of things to do in the area from surfing to golfing, and there is an abundance of walking and cycling tracks. The more traditional seaside town of Scarborough is just along the coast with its two huge bays, and the walled city of York is well worth a visit. Beach ¾ mile.
