Forge Villa is a beautiful property situated in the village of Ebberston, on the southern edge of the North York Moors National Park. This area is very popular with cyclists as Dalby Forest can be accessed by the lane that runs to the north of the property. Dalby Forest in the past has hosted the World Cup mountain bike event, so there’s plenty of challenging runs for you to try. For those of you who enjoy a more leisurely trail, there’s miles of woodland paths for both bikers and walkers. The forest attracts international and UK visitors throughout the year, not just for the cycling, but for the many events that are held here, from concerts to educational nature visits for children.

The owner takes great pride in providing a beautiful holiday home, and Forge Villa has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The gardens are beautifully kept, with areas for nature to thrive, plus a colourful, wild flower meadow. Chafer Wood backs onto the grounds so you have lots of woodland walks for the dog. Access to the driveway is via a electric gate for added security, however please note parking is at own risk and the owners take no responsibility for loss or damage. There is a pub opposite so perfect for a drink after a busy day exploring the area.

The village of Ebberston is a short drive from the east coast, with Scarborough, Filey and Whitby close by. The popular market towns that Yorkshire is famous for, such as Malton, Pickering and Helmsley, are all within a short driving distance. Pickering is the nearest town, just 10 minutes away, and is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Here you can take a wonderful ride on a steam train and travel across the Moors to Whitby. Stop off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the ever popular TV programme ’Heartbeat’. Pickering is also host to the very popular ’1940’s Wartime Weekend’, an event held every year that takes over the whole town and attracts visitors as far away as the USA. At the front of the cottage you have a seating area for two outside, in a peaceful yard away from the bustling crowds. Stepping inside you are welcomed into the open plan living area, with an electric fire as well as comfortable seating beneath the beamed ceiling. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking a holiday feast. Upstairs you have two beautifully presented bedrooms, on the first floor is a double bedroom with views over the pantiled rooftops to the whale-bone archway up on the cliff tops. There is also the family bathroom. On the second floor is the family bedroom under the beamed ceiling with a double as well as a single bed and elevated views across the rooftops and out to sea. Outside as an additional quirky feature you have the original outhouse with a toilet, as well as a separate utility room.
You are only a 5-eminute walk away from the nearest beach, with a wide assortment of quirky independent shops, as well as cafés, restaurants and pubs all within easy reach and many being dog friendly. In the harbour there is the HMS Endeavour, a replica of Captain Cook’s ship which was built and sailed from Whitby on his voyages of discovery. Join a ghost walk, visit the museums, you can even see a shipwreck at low tide at Saltwick Bay or look up into the cliffs to spot the smugglers tunnels, the clues to the towns colourful past are all around you.

Set in the hamlet of Starbotton in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this Grade II listed, end of terrace cottage dates back to 1663. As such, it has been sympathetically refurbished and makes a quiet retreat from busy everyday life. It enjoys a south-facing spacious garden with the added benefit of soft fruit beds from which guests are welcome to help themselves in season. To make your stay as comfortable as possible dressing gowns and hairdryers are provided, and for entertainment there are a number of board games and garden games to try out. The cottage is ideally placed for walking, cycling or touring the whole of the Yorkshire Dales. The nearby town of Grassington is 9 miles and in summer plays host to an incredible arts festival where you will find famous singers, presenters, poets and musicians. In winter there is a Dickensian festival, a magical event where the town is transported back in time with shopkeepers, villagers and visitors dressing in Victorian costume. A little further afield lies the bustling market town of Skipton with its Norman castle standing proudly at the head of it wide, sweeping, cobbled high street. Alternatively kick back in the local pub, 200 yards, which serves food and local ales. The nearby village of Kettlewell, approximately 2 miles away boasts three pubs, tea rooms, a village shop and various events during year including The Scarecrow Festival. Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

The beautiful North York Moors are a delight to explore either on foot or by car, or alternatively, the steam railway runs along stunning scenery through many unspoilt villages including Goathland (Aidensfield in the television series ’Heartbeat’). The coast is easily accessible, 45 minutes away, and the popular seaside resorts of Scarborough and Whitby are delights not to be missed. The quaint cobbled streets of Robin Hood’s Bay, once a favourite haunt with smugglers, will keep children and adults entertained for hours with its shoreline full of strange and colourful pebbles. Castle Howard is within easy driving distance, and Flamingo Land (a popular theme park and zoo) is well worth the visit. The market town of Helmsley is just 6 miles away and has shops and inns as well as pretty walled gardens.

Many National Trust and English Heritage properties can be found within a 15-mile radius, including Nunnington Hall, Byland Abbey and Duncomb Park, to name but a few. The ancient city of York is but a 45-minute drive. Excellent walking can be found from the doorstep. "This beautiful, 18th century stone-built cottage offers a comfortable stay in the delightful little village of Bewerley, which is tucked away just outside the picturesque town of Pateley Bridge. This mid-terraced cottage has plenty of character and has kept all its original features with a large fireplace and wood burner, exposed stone and wooden beams throughout, giving you that instant country cottage feel. Oak Cottage offers both couples and families a luxury holiday retreat whilst being ideally located to explore all that the Nidderdale and Yorkshire Dales has to offer.

The property is set over 3 levels, you enter the property into the living area, which is a lovely warm, comfortable space where you can cosy up in front of the wood burner which will keep you warm on the colder evenings. On the same floor you have a dining area and a well presented, well equipped kitchen which has plenty of room for food preparation. The area is full of bike trails and fantastic scenic walks, so you will never struggle to find something to keep you entertained. Alternatively, the beautiful cathedral city of Ripon is only 11 miles away along with the spa town of Harrogate 30 minutes by car and the historic city of York only a further 30 minutes. Local attractions include the magnificent Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park near Ripon, Brimham Rocks near Summerbridge and How Stean Gorge near Lofthouse which are all a must.
