Kitty’s Cottage is a listed building, and is set out over three floors, with quirky features harking back to its past, including beams and low door frames in some places. Stepping inside on the first floor you have the dining room at the front, with a corner sofa beside the window where you can take in the views over the water, making this an inviting social space. Down on the lower ground floor, you have the beautiful modern kitchen, complete with everything you could wish for when creating all of your favourite meals, as well as a breakfast bar. You also have the walk-in shower on this level. Up on the first floor, you have the master bedroom which is a luxurious, spacious room enjoying elevated views over the harbour where you can watch the world pass by. Up on the second floor, you have a quirky triple bedroom, to access the third bed you will need to duck under the eaves with a lowered bed tucked away beside a window, again with those fabulous views out across the harbour and beyond the piers out to sea.
The views from this cottage are one of the many highlights, you can see right up onto the west cliff opposite, where the Whalebone archway and the Captain Cook statue watch over the town. On your doorstep, Whitby awaits, with so much to see and do, including the ancient abbey, boat trips and water sports including surfing and paddle boarding. This beautiful coastal town with its glorious sandy beaches attracts guests from far and wide, as it has stunning scenery as well as a colourful history, and lots of attractions to visit as well as an array of independent shops and cafés, as well as both trendy cocktail bars and traditional pubs to explore.
Whitby is a seafaring town and proud of its heritage; there are tales of Viking invasions, heroic sea rescues as well as seafaring pioneers. Discover more at the museums, including one on a tall ship in the harbour. Today fishermen still sail from Whitby, there are many award-winning restaurants where you can sample freshly caught seafood. There are also festivals throughout the seasons including the bi-annual Goth weekends and the regatta making this a perfect all-year-round resort to visit.
The surrounding North York Moors National Park is full of moorland and woodland trails as well as the wonderful heritage steam railway. The steam train leaves Whitby and travels over the moors towards the market town of Pickering, with other picturesque villages along the way. For younger family members, and within an hour’s drive, you have Flamingoland theme park and zoo, the Sea Life Centre, Alpamare waterpark and spa and Go Ape tree top ziplining in Dalby Forest. Whitby is famous for its links to Dracula, and the Gothic abbey and graveyard tower 199 steps above the town. The climb is worth the effort just to take in the fantastic views of the town and out to sea. Many events and festivals take place all year round such as the Goth Weekender, Folk Week, Whitby Regatta, Steampunk festivals and many music events. There are plenty of traditional pubs to complement the wine bars, as well as many different bistros and restaurants to choose from, not forgetting award-winning fish and chips. There is a 3 mile stretch of golden sand complete with ice cream parlours and arcades to enjoy, and a long pier to walk down.

If you want to get off the beaten track there are many coves and bays dotted along the North Yorkshire and Cleveland Heritage Coast to explore. Hidden gems such as Runswick Bay and Boggle Hole along with the more famous such as Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are worth a visit. There are many local walks in the area including the Cleveland Way route, and the Cinder Track across the viaduct which heads down to Robin Hood’s Bay.

Head inland into the North York Moors National Park for stunning scenery and fabulous views. Local bus, car, bike or even a journey on a traditional steam train are other ways to get out and see what the area has to offer. The Victorian seaside town of Scarborough is just down the coast with its two huge bays; North Bay for a quiet stroll watching the waves, or South Bay for amusement arcades, a fairground and a harbour. The Open Air Theatre plays host to many international artists throughout the summer months, and Peasholm Park hosts its Model Naval War on a regular basis. There are a number of golf courses, cycling tracks and country or beach walks in the local area. If history is your thing, there are many abbeys and historic places of interest throughout North Yorkshire including the Eden War Museum in Malton. The walled city of York is just an hour’s drive away.

The village amenities are all within a short walking distance of the house, with a well-stocked shop, popular cafe and three pubs all providing local ales and hearty meals using locally sourced produce. A further 10-minute walk takes you to the Yorkshire Dales Brewery which has a shop and, in the summer, a beer garden at weekends.
The Yorkshire Dales offer spectacular scenery and an abundance of walks of all ability levels to explore. From the house itself there are beautiful walks along the banks of the nearby River Ure and the Askrigg Waterfalls Walk, which takes in both Whitfield Force and Mill Gill Force. For the more adventurous, longer walks and climbs in Wensleydale and Swaledale are within easy reach. The Yorkshire Three Peaks can be accessed from Horton-in-Ribblesdale, 40-minute drive away. For more restful days, there is so much to see and do within an easy distance. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are nearby, and the market towns of Leyburn and Hawes are a short drive away. This mid-terraced cottage has plenty of character and has kept all its original features with a large fireplace and wood burner, exposed stone and wooden beams throughout, giving you that instant country cottage feel. The property is set over 3 levels, you enter the property into the living area, which is a lovely warm, comfortable space where you can cosy up in front of the wood burner which will keep you warm on the colder evenings. On the same floor you have a dining area and a well presented, well equipped kitchen which has plenty of room for food preparation. From the kitchen you gain access to the rear patio area which is a great place to sit and relax in the sun with a morning coffee and the newspapers. The area is full of bike trails and fantastic scenic walks, so you will never struggle to find something to keep you entertained. Alternatively, the beautiful cathedral city of Ripon is only 11 miles away along with the spa town of Harrogate 30 minutes by car and the historic city of York only a further 30 minutes. Local attractions include the magnificent Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Park near Ripon, Brimham Rocks near Summerbridge and How Stean Gorge near Lofthouse which are all a must.
