For 2 years running Duck cottage has been awarded our customers choice award and is aptly named Duck Cottage since as you are next to the village green with a large duck pond, Duck Cottage’s location is picture perfect, with trailing weeping willows along the bank and benches where you can enjoy the view whilst feeding the resident ducklings and their families. Duck Cottage was once a workshop for local woodworkers; it has been lovingly renovated to delight guests on arrival. The original beams are still retained harking back to its former days.
You are in an idyllic village setting, just opposite the heart and soul of the community - the village green and the friendly local pub, serving hearty meals with an outdoor beer garden. This is an ideal choice for those who love the great outdoors as you will be right on the doorstep of the Howardian Hills (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The owners have taken care to describe some of their favourite nearby walks as well as lists of different attractions to choose from in the welcome folder. You will be spoilt for choice, as there is lots to see and do in the area.
The cottage itself is tastefully furnished throughout. The layout is all on the ground floor, with just one step in the living area down to the kitchen. The property is bright and modern, with skylights bathing you in sunshine. On entering there is an entrance hallway leading you to the master double bedroom. Branching off the hallway is the shower room. Then further down the hallway it opens into the living area. This is a carefully laid out and tastefully furnished room, ensuring your comfort and providing a welcoming space to unwind in an evening. The well-equipped kitchen also has a breakfast bar. The kitchen leads to a twin bedroom, which can be made up as a double on request. Outside is a garden room with sofa and TV and for those chiller evenings a stove to keep you cosy. Attached to this is a private patio area with garden furniture so that you can dine outside in the summer months, as well as an enclosed garden beside the neighbouring owners’ home with a lawn perfect for exercising your pet dog.
Also being located between both the North York Moors National Park and the Yorkshire Dales you are in a great area for exploring. It is only 12 miles from the historical walled city of York, with medieval cobbled streets, Clifford’s Tower and many other attractions including the Jorvik Viking centre. The stately homes of Castle Howard, Newby Hall and Beningborough Hall are nearby, and Kirkham, Rievaulx and Fountain’s Abbey ruins are all worth a visit. Mother Shipton’s Cave at Knaresborough is a quirky day out, where you can see how the waterfall preserves objects by turning them to stone and hear tales of the ’witch’ who lived there. For younger visitors, Flamingo Land Theme Park and zoo is around a 45-minute drive away. There are also many outdoor activities to enjoy including golf, fishing at the nearby well stocked lakes, and zip lining through the treetops at Dalby Forest. Westfield Stables is a beautifully converted, semi-detached, brick built barn conversion, retaining all of the original beams and surrounded by open countryside midway between York and Harrogate. Set on the owner’s working farm, it is ideally located for a romantic break away or a fun shopping trip to two of the north of England’s most famous towns. This holiday home offers wonderful accommodation with stunning views from the master bedroom. The ground floor boasts underfloor heating throughout, however the stylish wood burner provides that cosy feel for the cooler months. The country-style kitchen with sleek quartz counter top and Belfast sink is simply stunning and has all of the facilities required to cook up some great homemade meals. A large archway leads through to the living/dining room, which boasts a huge floor to ceiling window which floods the room with natural light. The comfy seating offers a reclining armchair and sofa options, ideal for a relaxing night enjoying your favourite film. The dining table and chairs sit to one side and provide plenty of seating for four guests.

On the first floor are two bedrooms, both of which have en-suites. Throughout this floor are original beams, take a while to spot the carpenter’s markings which can still be seen. In one room, the kingsize bed sits in front of a floor to ceiling window offering far reaching views across the Yorkshire countryside; just wonderful to have an early morning cup of tea and watch the sun come up. The stylish en-suite bathroom in this room is hidden behind a false wall! The second bedroom offers a zip and link option and an en suite shower room. Doors from the living and utility rooms lead out to the large enclosed garden and patio, where the seating has been arranged to make the most of the early morning sun.

Within 12 miles of Westfield Stables is the Victorian spa town of Harrogate and the historic city of York, both of which offer wonderful shopping opportunities as well as a plethora of great restaurants and thriving night life. You can enjoy an afternoon of relaxation in the Turkish Spa in Harrogate or learn about Romans and Vikings in York. If you fancy a few drinks to celebrate being away on holiday, or wish to explore further afield, the owners’ are more than happy to drop you off at the local railway station. This holiday home provides easy access to not only the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but also the stunning North York Moors National Park and the east coast towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Situated just off ‘Bishy Road’ (voted Britain’s best high street) there's also fantastic independent shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes, delis and takeaways just a minute walk away.

107 Nunnery Lane is a stylish, pet friendly townhouse with a courtyard & basement cinema. It sleeps 5 but an additional z-bed can be requested for a 6th person (£20 fee per stay). Parking is available and we're very close to the station. 107 is located off ‘Bishy Road’ (voted Britain’s best high street) with independent shops, pubs, cafes & delis. You can also rent 109 Nunnery Lane allowing bookings of up to 12. Additional £20 charge for dogs.
