When you arrive at The Malthouse a heavy oak door leads you into the original cart-way. From the cart-way, go down into the lower ground floor utility room, here you will find an extra fridge, washer and dryer. Also just off the original cart-way is a bedroom with a bathroom adjacent. A spacious open plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is stylish and handmade with all the modern appliances you’d expect. The dining area has a large, impressive Bath stone fireplace in front of the long pine dining table. Heavy curtains and underfloor heating keep you warm in the winter months whilst stone floors, lime washed walls and ancient beams reflect its historic character.


On the ground floor the sitting room and the garden room, both comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. The sitting room has an inglenook fireplace with a wood burner, ideal on colder days. Walk through the cosy sitting room to the airy pitch-roofed garden room and enjoy views of the garden and countryside from the window seats. Climb the turret stairway to the first floor where there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. The bedrooms are large and elegant with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels, side tables, soft furnishings, and comfy chairs. Up another turret stairway to the second floor with another bathroom and a further two bedrooms, one with a unique view of the ancient malthouse roof structure through a floor-to-ceiling glass window. There’s a generous open courtyard and a large garden with lawn and lavender lined path. Guests can enjoy al fresco dining; there are large tables with benches and chairs, a large comfy sofa and plenty of blankets to lay on the grass. A range of outdoor games including table tennis are provided.


Grade II listed, The Malthouse is steeped in history with some parts dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries and is quirky in many ways with uneven steps and floors, all of which contribute to the character of the building. The owners just ask that you take care whilst you experience living in a historic house! The property is in an outstanding location. The city of Bath needs no introduction and is a 15-minute drive (or catch the bus from the village).

Other world-class attractions nearby include Longleat House and Safari Park, Stonehenge, Glastonbury, and the National Trust’s Stourhead. Don’t miss other places of interest including the Hauser and Wirth art gallery in Bruton, Iford Manor’s Peto Garden and the pretty market town of Bradford-on-Avon. There are countless other National Trust properties, quaint villages, Neolithic sites, and ancient churches to explore.

The living area has a comfortable sofa, television and dining area all of which enjoy incredible views from the picture window, no matter the time of year you will marvel at the beautiful landscape. The spacious double bedroom also has lake views and is the perfect spot to lay in bed with a cup of tea in the morning and watch the boats on the lake.
Set in the Mendips, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, walks for miles can be enjoyed from the doorstep and the area is perfect for mountain biking, climbing, horse riding or fishing. Just a short walk away is the beautiful Blagdon Lake with its miles of walks, stroll down and explore the Yeo Valley Organic Dairy with its Organic Garden. The nearby city of Wells has a fabulous local market and beautiful cathedral to visit as well as independent and larger shops to enjoy. Head into Cheddar and sample some local cheese, walk the reservoir loop or take a drive through the gorge!
For some ancient Roman architecture, head over to Bath and sample the delights that can be found there. If a day by the sea is what you fancy, the traditional seaside town of Weston-super-Mare is always a winner with its grand pier and donkey rides! Longleat is well worth a visit, and the city of Bristol, with the SS Great Britain and Clifton Suspension Bridge, is within easy reach.

The Grade II* listed stable conversion (PFFH) is part of the only longhouse in Wiltshire and dating back to the 13th century, is the oldest house in the village. Old Farm is a stunning Barn conversion in Southwood, just outside of Glastonbury. Converted to an extremely high standard in 2021, it’s the perfect base from which to explore Somerset. Drive past the orchard and enter through the gates into your private driveway where Old Farm awaits you, through the large Oak front door the bright and airy living space opens in front of you to welcome you in. The central open plan living space has beautiful large doors opening to the garden, a wood burner for those cosy evenings and sumptuous furnishings to allow you to relax into whilst watching TV or chilling with a glass of your favourite tipple. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge freezer and washing machine as well as everything else you will need to whip up a fantastic dinner or just a simple breakfast. There is also a sitting room with large floor to ceiling windows, you can also sleep up to two extra guests on the sofa bed in here. Off the open plan living area you will find the fabulous bedrooms, both have double beds, hairdryers and en-suite bathrooms. Outside you have your private garden, with outdoor seating area and fantastic views across the fields.
There are fabulous walks in all directions that can be taken from the doorstep, whilst the towns of Glastonbury and Street are just under 15 minutes drive away. Glastonbury, famous for its festival and ancient legends, has a great mix of eclectic shops and larger stores whilst Street is well known for its outlet shopping centre, Clarks Village, where designer bargains are to be found! Within an hour’s drive you have a wealth of National Trust properties to explore as well as fun days out at the likes of Longleat and Haynes Motor Museum.
