It is just 3 miles to the pretty town of Dolgellau, offering a range of places to eat and drink. Dolgellau is also the starting point of the Mawddach Trail, a level 9 mile walk along the old railway line to Barmouth. The large sandy beach at Barmouth is well worth a visit – don’t forget your bucket and spade! In the other direction is Bala home to the largest natural lake in Wales, and the Bala Lake Railway, offering a memorable journey by steam train along the lake shore. Beach 11 miles. Ymwlch Barns are a charming complex of barn conversions situated in a quiet hamlet offering beautiful mountain views and country walks. The Dutch barns (UK12872 and UK12873) are superb, semi-detached barn conversions each offering modern open plan living with a luxurious touch and lovely private hot tubs in enclosed courtyards (towels not provided). They each have a kingsize bedroom and a twin room, making them ideal for small families or couples. Kris Kin (ref OXU) is a charming detached barn conversion with oak beams, wooden floor, well-equipped kitchen and an en-suite bathroom. This property also has its own hot tub.

The surroundings are alive with snowdrops in winter and bluebells in spring. The complex is a short drive away from the beach and castle at Criccieth, and a lovely selection of restaurants, cafes, shops and pubs. Situated on the beautiful Lleyn Peninsula, the area is perfect for walking and cycling with an abundance of lovely footpaths and peaceful country lanes. Just under 5 miles away is the lovely town of Porthmadog, with its pretty harbour and the start of fabulous narrow gauge steam train rides on the world famous Ffestiniog railway, which takes you deep into the heart of the magnificent Snowdonia National Park. A wonderful holiday location whatever the season, this charming, spacious and traditional, mid-terraced cottage has a lovely enclosed garden and is situated opposite the historic St Beuno Church, which dates back to the 7th century. It was an important stopping place for pilgrims heading for Bardsey Island. As you step out of the front door of the cottage you are immediately on the cycle track route from Llanaelhaearn to Caernarfon.

Just a short walk from the cottage is a pebbled beach and access to the Wales coastal path with fabulous panoramic views across to Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsula.

The Snowdonia National Park is close by for a fine selection of outdoor pursuits which include the Snowdon Mountain Railway, climbing to the summit of Mount Snowdon, Wales’ highest mountain, Zip World and Surf Snowdonia, as well as being a paradise for walkers and cyclists. Historic Caernarfon is within easy reach and is home to the Welsh Highland Railway, providing a spectacular narrow-gauge steam journey to Beddgelert and Porthmadog. Caernarfon is also home to its mighty Edward I castle and a fine selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. Clynnog-Fawr is situated on the outskirts of the Lleyn Peninsula and due to its central location it affords easy access to the wonderful sandy beaches and lively seaside villages of Nefyn, Pwllheli and Abersoch.
