Beautiful Aberdaron Bay is just 1½ miles from the cottage, and in this pretty village you can find a mile long sandy beach, two pubs, a tea room and boat trips in the summer to Bardsey Island. Children will love exploring the sea caves and rock pools, or for the more adventurous, windsurfing and kayaking can also be found in the area.
For history buffs, Caernarfon Castle is worth a visit and is set on the banks of the River Seiont, whilst Harlech Castle is situated on a rocky crag overlooking sand dunes far below. The highest peak in Wales, Mount Snowdon, is a must for outdoor enthusiasts, and there is also the Snowdon Mountain Railway which will take you to the top. For seaside fun, visit the bustling market town of Pwllheli, with its beach, art galleries, sailing and watersports centre, and coastal cruises out to see wildlife such as seals, sea birds and dolphins. The Welsh Highland Railway meanders through the forest and the occasional whistles of the stream trains are always a joy to hear.
After a day exploring the local countryside and attractions, what better than to come back to the comfort in your own forest haven. Bring your bucket and spade as the glorious sandy beach at Morfa Dyffryn is just a mile down the road and offers superb views over to the Rhinog Mountains. For the more adventurous, Zip World and Bounce Below at Blaenau Ffestiniog are a thrill seekers delight, whilst the famous Ffestiniog Railway and mighty Harlech Castle are also well worth a visit. From Barmouth, why not hire a bike and cycle across Barmouth Bridge and along the Mawddach Trail to Penmaenpool and Dolgellau? Beach 1 mile. Shops 300 yards, pubs and restaurants ½ mile.
